Concern about global environment has been increasing in recent years. Efforts to minimize the environmental impact to the globe as well as human beings have increased, especially in the late twentieth century. The study researches one of the solutions for the environmentally friendly building construction, which can contribute to sustaining the world environment. Assessment and proposals are made for high-rise apartments, one of the most popular construction types nowadays in Korea. Since the volume of high-rise apartment construction is so great, a small improvement in each building will make a great contribution. Assessments are made over the life-span of apartment buildings. A tool named EIAHA (Environmental Impact Assessment for High-rise Apartment) has been made through references from western examples, mainly in the UK. The components of EIAHA include passive design strategies, building materials, energy consumption during building operation and management/maintenance. Although the issues are on a global scale, solutions are sought on regional scale. Korean high-rise apartments are assessed with the tool and suggestions for sustainable development are made mainly for improvement of embodied energy of building materials and the life of buildings.

본 연구의 목적은 한국 도시의 방재력 강화를 위하여 리스크 커뮤니케이션의 중요성과 방법을 고찰하고 리스크 커뮤니케이션의 도구로서 해저드 맵의 활용 및 개선의 방법을 제안하는 것이다. 한국과 일본의 해저드 맵을 비교 평가하고, 최근 일본에서 활발하게 실천되고 있는 방재 맵 만들기 사례를 분석하였다. 연구의 결과, 한국에서 작성되고 있는 해저드 맵의 활용 및 개선을 위한 5가지 안이 도출되었고, 리스크 개념의 사회적 확산이 도시 방재력 강화에 커다란 도움이 될 수 있다는 것이 파악되었다.

This paper analyzes quality management of aviation safety services in Korea and proposes practical implications for improvement. We look into how quality management is conducted in the Korean aviation industry and confirm aviation authority's efforts for a quality management system. We also compare and analyze international standard ISO 9001 and aviation safety oversight system quality management cases of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) with a Korean case. Results find the difference in defining the scope of ISO 9001 management between ICAO/FAA and the Korean authority which causes unnecessary misunderstanding in oversight perception. The Korean aviation authority strives to provide a high level of safety oversight services by educating aviation safety inspectors as well as establishing a quality management system. We believe that our proposals can help Korean aviation safety oversight system secure objective credibility and seek a safe growth and development of the aviation industry.

This paper based on a survey of the 1995 Hyogo-Ken Nanbu Earthquake analyzes human behavior by the house pattern through the correspondence analysis in an area of Shindo 7: earthquake with an intensity of 7 on the Japanese scale. According to the analysis the following proposals are shown as a space safety planning: First : To establish the space allotment based on which the role behavior among family members are smoothly executed, . Second In the apartment house it is important to install a common space or a "Helping Neighbot" -route to the adjoining dwelling unit which is safe for residents' activities and effective for the improvement of the earthquake-resistant structure of the building. building.

This study intends to suggest the improvements for the legal systems related to the conservation of mountain ridge areas. The 4 legal systems directly related to the conservation of mountain ridge areas are reviewed and the current conditions of adaptive reuse of mountain areas and destroy cases in Hwasung are examined. For solving the problems on the basis of the analysis, three proposals for the improvement on legal systems are suggested. First, the integration of present dual legal systems related to adaptive reuse of mountain areas on the assumption that the related criteria and provisions should be amended, second, activation of the legal systems such as natural landscape district and natural landscape review to make up for the laws related to adaptive reuse of mountain areas, third, the enactment and application of the ordinances related with the 'mountain area management law'.

The purpose of this study is evaluate the direct payment program for rural landscape conservation and deduce facts to improve. This research is composed with a survey on local government officials and farmers joined this program, and used monitering in selected 41 zones. According to the surveys, this program showed a positive contribution to the effects: village harmony, visitors increase, village income. However, It's contribute in short term objectives, but has not yet reach the ultimate goal such as regional development through visitors and village income. We found some problems in the monitering, on the agreement with farmers, range of village activities, operating AgriX program, etc. Finally, we suggest some proposals ; 1) to redefine the aims and range for the program, 2) to clarify a village action program, 3) to strength the admission procedure, 4) to designate district based on landscape resources survey.

The cause of crack on reinforced concrete structures is varied, while the studies, which have intended to analyze this in the material side, have been the mainstream so far. Therefore, in this study, we intended to suggest the proposals for enhancement of the system to reduce crack and to improve the quality of the reinforced concrete structures, by reviewing the cause of crack mainly in the structural aspect and analyzing the practices and the system. The result has been shown as following. (1) As one of the measures for improving the constructional system related to the structure, it is to enhance the relevant system so that design on construction, structure, and equipment, can be separately ordered or jointly ventured, and the owner or the agent of the owner can discuss and mediate the business in each specialized field. (2) Importance on construction supervision and new establishment of regulations related to structure supervision.

The engine intake system noise has been recognized as a problem for many years. Acoustic design of intake system has traditionally been a trial and error process. This has resulted in the development of computer simulation program for a acoustic analysis and acoustic modeling. In this study, we developed the program based on the transfer matrix method which analyze and predict the performance of a intake noise. The program was verified by experiments on a real intake system. By using of the simulation program, we analyzed acoustic characteristics and, made proposals of improvement to reduce the intake noise and was verified by the SYSNOISE software.

Information Technology (IT) makes a great contribution towards improvement of productivity in construction industry. Because most of researches of construction industry's IT are focused on the whole field of the industry or development of information system, however, these have no regard for conditions in fields. Thus, this study proposes the requirements in order to improve the productivity and efficiency of field execution of construction industry. To achieve this aim, the surveys are conducted of the problems and conditions of IT application on site workers and managers. As a result, the followings are suggested: (1) user training should be exercised continuously, (2) infrastructure of IT constructed, (3) total management system of field execution developed, and (4) the development of IT system focused on fields. Therefore, this study provides meaningful proposal that can be set up basic direction toward IT investment and IT system development.

Work-related musculoskeletal disorders constitute a major source of employee disability and lost wages. Cumulative Trauma Disorders(CTD) refers to a category of physical conditions which result from chronic musculoskeletal injury. Assessment of CTD risk in industry at early stage allows for early control, a safe environment, and a healthier workforce. In this study, the physical load of the shipping work in the cold storage warehouse were especially investigated. Employees were working with almost unnatural posture in a very restricted work space. The questionnaire and biomechanical analysis were used to evaluate the physical load. Results from analyses showed that they were sufficiently exposed to CTD due to repetition and unnatural posture. Based on the analysis, ways for improving working conditions are proposed. The analysis and proposals in this paper will serve as a basic tool for designing/redesigning working environment such as improvement of tools and equipments, design of times for work/rest cycle.
