Performance Improvement for PID Controllers by using Dual-Input Describing Function (DIDF) Method (DIDF를 이용한 PID제어기의 성능향상에 관한 연구)

  • Though various techniques have been studied as a way of adjusting parameters of PID controllers, no perfect method of determining parameters is available to date. This paper proposes a new method for enhancing performance of PID controllers by using the characteristics of dual-input describing function (DIDF). In other words, if nonlinear elements with two inputs (DIDF) are connected in series to the plant, the critical point (-1+j0) for Nyquist stability theory can be moved to a position arbitrarily selected on the complex plane by determining necessary coefficients of the DIDF appropriately. This makes the application of the existing conventional PID parameter tuning methods a lot easier, and stability and robustness of the system are improved simultaneously due to the DIDF inserted.

Persulfate Wet Oxidation Method for the Determination of Total Phosphorus in Atmospheric Aerosols and Its Application for a Year-round Observation in Beijing

  • Measurement of the phosphorus concentration in aerosols in Beijing, which was a representative East Asian mega-city, was carried out. The optimum procedure for analyzing phosphorus in aerosols was found in this study. Recovery of phosphorus in environmental samples through the improved method was almost 100%. The concentration of phosphorus in TSP was $145{\pm}47\;ng/m^3$, with a seasonal variation showing high concentrations in winter and low concentrations in summer. The concentrations of phosphorus in $PM_{2.5}$ accounted for $35{\pm}6%$ of those in TSP, with no seasonal variations. The major source of phosphorus in aerosols in Beijing was soil dust, and additional sources of phosphorus in fine particles could be coal combustion and biomass burning.

  • a numerical method to the problem of mutual admittance between two slots is considered by use of conservation of complex power. Calculation of mutual admittance is compared with other results. And mutual admittance obtained by the method is used in the analysis for the broadband rectangular microstrip antenna geometry using E0plane gap coupling. The theoretical results for both return loss and radiation pattern of the broadband antenna are compared with experimental results. Good agreement between calculated and measured values has been observed.

  • The traditional method of smoke image recognition has low accuracy. For this reason, we proposed an algorithm based on the good group of IMFOA which is GMFOA to optimize the parameters of SVM. Firstly, we divide the motion region by combining the three-frame difference algorithm and the ViBe algorithm. Then, we divide it into several parts and extract the histogram of oriented gradient and volume local binary patterns of each part. Finally, we use the GMFOA to optimize the parameters of SVM and multiple kernel learning algorithms to Classify smoke images. The experimental results show that the classification ability of our method is better than other methods, and it can better adapt to the complex environmental conditions.

  • Shizhuyuan W-Mo-Bi-Ca $F_2$polymetallic ore is classified to the refractory one due to its complex property, fine dissemination and close association of minerals. Through several years of researches, in line with GY new mineral processing technology developed by Guangzhou Research Institute of Nonferrous Metals, in sulfide flotation circuit, an iso-flotability flowsheet is used to replace original overall bulk flotation flowsheet, and in tungsten flotation circuit, a new chelating type-GY reagent and a special pulp-conditioning system and a new technology of wolframite slime flotation are used to replace the traditional "Caustic Soda Method"$_{[1]}$, the metallurgical performance is greatly improved. Besides, GY New Method has created a favorable condition for comprehensive recovery of fluoride from tungsten flotation tailings. Notable economic benefit has been achieved.d.

  • In this study, an improved topology design methodology that is combined with genetic algorithm, response surface method is provided to overcome the limitations of the ordinary topology optimization methods on the complex non-linear problem. the method is applied to a disc brake system for reducing an automobile brake noise. The low frequency that may induces the brake noise under the unstable mode is increased by obtaining the optimal topology. The result is verified by the analysis of variance and confirmed that the estimators for the approximation equations are highly reliable

  • In this paper, a new single phase voltage sag/swell compensator using direct power conversion is introduced. A new compensator consists of input/output filter, series transformer and direct at-ac converter, which is a single-phase back-to-back PWM converter without dc-link capacitors. Advantages of the proposed compensator include: simple power circuit by eliminating dc-link electrolytic capacitors and thereby, improved reliability and increased life time of the entire compensator; simple PWM strategy to compensate voltage sag/swell at the same time and reduced switching losses in the ac-ac converter. Further, the proposed scheme is able to adopt simple switch commutation method without requiring complex four-step commutation method commonly required in the direct power conversion. Simulation results are shown to demonstrate the advantages of the new compensator and PWM strategy.

  • This paper proposes some further improvements on N.K. Bose's 2D stability test for polynomials with real coefficients by revealing symmetric properties of the polynomials, resultants occurring in the test and by generalizing Sturm's method. The improved test can be fulfilled by a totally algebraic algorithm with a finite number of steps and the computational complexity is largely reduced as it involves only certain real variable polynomials with degrees not exceeding half of their previous complex variable counterparts. Nontrivial examples for 2D polynomials having both numerical and literal coefficients are also shown to illustrate the computational advantage of the proposed method.

  • Sometimes, we need or try to figure out somebody's thoughts from his or her behaviors such as eye movement, facial expression, gestures, and motions. In safety-critical and complex systems such as nuclear power plants, the inference of operators' thoughts (understanding or diagnosis of a current situation) might provide a lot of opportunities for useful applications, such as development of an improved operator training program, a new type of operator support system, and human performance measures for human factor validation. In this experimental study, a novel method for inference of an operator's thoughts from his or her eye movement data is proposed and evaluated with a nuclear power plant simulator. In the experiments, about 80% of operators' thoughts can be inferred correctly using the proposed method.

  • In this paper, a fuzzy model is identified and optimized using the hybrid algorithm and HCM clustering method. Here, the hybrid algorithm is carried out as the structure combined with both a genetic algorithm and the improved complex method. The one is utilized for determining the initial parameters of membership function, the other for obtaining the fine parameters of membership function. HCM clustering algorithm is used to determine the confined region of initial parameters and also to avoid overflow phenomenon during auto-tuning of hybrid algorithm. And the standard least square method is used for the identification of optimum consequence parameters of fuzzy model. Two numerical examples are shown to evaluate the performance of the proposed model.
