  • This paper proposes a dual-band balun which is based on Wilkinson power divider. By inserting $\lambda/2$ transmission line between port 2 and 3, this balun shows good matching at all ports and improved isolation. We use matamaterial(CRLH, D-CRLH) structure for a miniaturization of the circuit implementation and dual-band operation at TDMB frequency range(195MHz) and DVB-H frequency range(670MHz). The proposed balun is designed with return loss larger than -12.98dB at all port, and isolation larger than -12.4dB, the amplitude imbalance between output signals less than 0.08dB, also phase differences of outputs less than $2.8^{\circ}$.

  • In this paper, a compact planar ultra wideband (UWB, 3.1~10.6GHz) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna is proposed. This antenna consists of two monopole planar UWB antennas and T-shaped stub decoupling between two antennas. The T-shaped stub improve the isolation characteristic at the wide band. The evolution strategy(ES) algorithm is employed to optimized design. As a result, optimized antenna has a return loss less than -10dB and the isolation less than -15dB from 3.1GHz to 10.6GHz. During the optimization process, the antenna gain is enhanced at lower band and the envelope correlation coefficient(ECC) is lower than 0.003.

  • This paper describes a $0.13-{\mu}m$ CMOS RF switch for $3{\sim}5$ GHz UWB band(mode 1). It can improve isolation characteristics between ports by using deep n-well RF devices while their source and body terminals are separated. From the measurement results, the proposed T/R switch is comparative to the on-wafer probing measurement results of the series-shunt T/R switches. When the proposed T/R switch operates as Tx mode, measured insertion loss from Tx to output port is less than 1.5 dB and isolation between Tx and Rx is more than 27 dB for $3{\sim}5$ GHz. Return loss for the Tx port is more than -10 dB and input P1dB is +10 dBm.

  • In this paper, a novel unequal broadband out-of-phase power divider (PD) is presented. Double-sided parallel-strip lines (DSPSLs) are employed to achieve an out-of-phase response. Also, an asymmetric dual-band matching structure with two external isolation resistors is utilized to obtain arbitrary unequal power division, in which the resistors are directly grounded for heat sinking. A through ground via (TGV), connecting the top and bottom sides of the DSPSLs, is used to short the isolation components. Additionally, this property can efficiently improve the broadband matching and isolation bandwidths. To investigate the proposed divider in detail, a set of design equations are derived based on the circuit theory and transmission line theory. The theoretical analysis shows that broadband responses can be obtained as proper frequency ratios are adopted. To verify the proposed concept, a sample divider with a power division of 2:1 is demonstrated. The measured results exhibit a broad bandwidth from 1.19 GHz to 2.19 GHz (59.2%) with a return loss better than 10 dB and port isolation of 18 dB.

  • The linearization technique for low noise amplifier (LNA) has been implemented in standard $0.18-{\mu}m$ BiCMOS process. The MOS-BJT derivative superposition (MBDS) technique exploits a parallel LC tank in the emitter of bipolar transistor to reduce the second-order non-linear coefficient ($g_{m2}$) which limits the enhancement of linearity performance. Two feedback capacitances are used in parallel with the base-collector and gate-drain capacitances to adjust the phase of third-order non-linear coefficients of bipolar and MOS transistors to improve the linearity characteristics. The MBDS technique is also employed cascode configuration to further reduce the second-order nonlinear coefficient. The proposed LNA exhibits gain of 9.3 dB and noise figure (NF) of 2.3 dB at 2 GHz. The excellent IIP3 of 20 dBm and low-power power consumption of 5.14 mW at the power supply of 1 V are achieved. The input return loss ($S_{11}$) and output return loss ($S_{22}$) are kept below - 10 dB and -15 dB, respectively. The reverse isolation ($S_{12}$) is better than -50 dB.

  • Diplexer is one of core devices needed to communicate with satellite using single ground antenna by separating uplink and downlink signal. This paper presents the design of the S-band diplexer for LEO TT&C application, especially for KOMPSAT (KOrea Multi-Purpose SATellite). To cope with requirements such as high handling power, low insertion loss, air-cavity resonator with high quality factor was considered as one of design drivers. Design was started with predicting unloaded Q and equivalent circuit from the structure of air-cavity resonator. For the convenience of adjustment, the coupling factor placed between resonators was estimated from COTSEM (Electro-Magnetic) simulator, EESOF $ADS^{TM}$, and expressed with 2-order polynomial regression. To improve the isolation between transmitting part (Tx) and receiving part (Rx), the inductive and capacitive attenuation poles were inserted between $4^{th}\;and\;6^{th}$ resonator respectively. The fabricated diplexer consists of two bandpass filters and each filter has eight resonants. From the measurement, it was shown that major requirements such as 0.5dB of insertion loss, 20dB of return loss and 100dB of isolation were fully satisfied within passband.

  • This paper presents to improve of isolation characteristics between personal communication service(PCS) antenna In mobile terminal and 2-channel multi input multi output(MIMO) antenna in the wireless broadband Internet(WiBro) band. In order to improve the isolation between each channel antenna, the proposed PCS antenna with an air space of 3 mm height is located on the projected ground plane($25{\times}12mm$) which is very small space$(0.19{\lambda})$ between the 2-channel WiBro-MIMO antenna. The proposed PCS antenna structure is a modified planar inverted F antenna (PIFA) of spiral type with shorting strip line(6${\times}$4 mm). The calculated Isolation values between the proposed PIFA with 3-dimensional structure and the MIMO antenna at Wibro band are about -20dB below and agree well with the measurement. Measured return loss, bandwidth, and gain o# the proposed antenna are -20dB at 1.8GHz, 110MHz(1.76${\sim}$1.87 GHz) band at -10dB below, and 0.05dBi, respectively, Moreover, we confirm that the proposed PCS antenna has no influence on performance and characteristics of the conversional 2-channel WiBro-MIMO antenna.

  • This paper presents the design and fabrication of the diplexer for a KOREASAT-III Ka-band satellite transponder. The transmission characteristics of the diplexer is analyzed by calculating the generalized scattering matrix using mode matching method. It is composed of 2 bandpass filters, coupled with H-plane T-junction having symmetrical inductive iris and E-plane metal insert structures. Compared with the size and weight of the Rx and Tx filter loaded with a transponders respectively, those of the diplexer can be effectively reduced. In a high power transmission, the variation of the filter characteristics is minimized by the scheme that irises are extended to the exterior of H-plane of the waveguide. This scheme needs no extra heat sinks for dissipating high power. The diplexer is designed to improve the simplification, durability and reliability by eliminating tuning screws, which have been used to compensate for the characteristics of fabricated filters. The bandpass filters of the diplexer show the insertion loss of less than 1.2 dB and the return loss in excess of 15 dB. The isolations of more than 65 dB have been achieved between Rx and Tx filter.

  • A SPST Switch MMIC which used for Microwave Switch Matrix(MSM) of communications satellite payload with multi-beam function has been designed and fabricated. New RE FET switch configuration has been devised to improve power characteristics and isolation. Input and output return losses are better than another switches reported previously for both On and Off states. The MMIC chips were fabricated in 0.15um GaAs pHEMT process and measured insertion loss less than 2.0dB and isolation more than 63dB in the frequency range of 3GHz$\∼$4GHz. Output 3rd order interceptpoint above 32dBm has been recorded and the value is very high even though the unit pHEMT has gate width of 0.2mm and only four pHEMT are used in the MMTC.
