  • Ketoconazole is an imidazole antifungal agent which inhibits the biosynthesis of fungal cellmembrane ergosterol and has immunosuppressive properties in vitro. Biphenyl dimethyl dicarboxylate (PMC) has been utilized for antioxidative action and for liver-protective purposes. Studies were undertaken to investigate effects of biphenyl dimethyl dicarboxylate (PMC) on the immunosuppression of ketoconazole in ICR mice. In the combination of PMC and ketoconazole, as compared with the treatment of ketoconazole alone, there were significant increases in activities of natural killer (NK) cells and phagocytes along with circulation leukocytes. The elevation of serum glutamic-pyruvic transaminase (S-GPT) and total protein levels caused by ketoconazole were reduced by the combination of PMC and ketoconazole. In addition, lower serum albumin and albumin/globulin (A/G) ratio were also increased to normal level.

  • Room temperature oxidation of organic sulfides with polyvinylpyrrolidone-supported hydrogen peroxide (PVP-$H_2O_2$) in the presence of Mn(III) complexes of meso-tetraphenylporphyrin, Mn(TPP)X (X = OCN, SCN, OAc, Cl) and imidazole (ImH) leads to the highly chemoselective (ca. 90%) oxidation of sulfides to the corresponding sulfoxide. The efficiency of reaction has been shown to be influenced by different reaction parameters such as the nature of counterion (X) and solvent as well as the molar ratio of reactants. Using Mn(TPP)OCN and ImH in 1:15 molar ratio and acetone as the solvent leads to the efficient oxidation of different sulfides.

  • Synthesis and properties of novel excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) materials, recently developed in our group, are described. Highly efficient ESIPT reaction, achieved in polyquinolines, polybenzoxazoles, and oxadiazole and imidazole derivatives possessing an intramolecular tautomerizable hydrogen bond, has been investigated theoretically and experimentally. It is demonstrated that unique properties arising from the ESIPT process (large Stokes' shift, no self-absorption, and easy population inversion, etc.) make it possible to produce advanced polymer devices for lasing, optical storage, and electroluminescence.

  • Flavin-peptides were purified from pyranose oxidase (EC 1.1.3.10) after tryptic- chymotryptic and tryptic digestion. The spectral and chromatographic properties of these flavin peptides showed that the FAD of pyranose oxidase appears to be bound, by way of the 8${\alpha}$-methylene group, to the N-l position of the imidazole ring of the histidine. Automated sequence analysis showed that the amino acid sequence of the tryptic-chymotryptic flavin-peptide from pyranose oxidase is Ser-Thr-X-Trp and that of the tryptic flavin-peptide is Met-Ser-Thr-X-Trp. • Monomeric antioxidant 1 was prepared by the reaction of 3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl alcohol with N-[4-(chlorocarbonyl)phenyl]maleimide in the presence of imidazole. Monomeric antioxidant 2, bearing carbamate group, was synthesized from the reaction of 3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl alcohol and azidomaleimide. Antioxidant 3 was prepared by the reaction of N-(4-hydroxyphenyl)maleimide and 3-(3,5-ditert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl) propionic chloride in the presence of triethylamine. These reactive antioxidants were grafted onto polypropylene (PP) by melt-processing with free radical initiators in a mini-max moulder. From the infrared spectra of the grafted PP, it was found that the monomeric antioxidants were grafted onto PP. IR spectroscopic methods were used for the quantitative determination of the extent of grafting of monomeric antioxidant. To optimize the reaction conditions, the influences of the concentration of DCP, monomeric antioxidant, reaction time and temperature on the extent of grafting were studied.

  • The monodispersed polystyrene spheres were prepared by emulsion polymerization in aqueous alcohol system. They coated with silver by reduction of silver ion percolated on the surface of them. The spherical hollow type silver has been prepared by dissolving polystyrene with toluene. Epoxy resin compositions with spherical hollow type silver were manufactured, which were composed of a bisphenol F type epoxy resin (RE-304S), amine type hardener (Kayahard AA), and 1-benzyl 2-methyl imidazole (1B2MI) as catalyst. The electrical conductivity with silver content ratio were investigated after cure, the percolation threshold weight ratio for conductance in this epoxy resin system was obtained above the 70 wt% of silver.

  • We synthesized the polymer that can have function group and improvement of mechnical strength and then confirmed the possibility of molecular device made by LB method. In this paper, the $\pi$-A isotherm has been investigated as to the kinds and various concentrations of the metal ions complexed with imidazole group. The experimental results for the electrical properties of MIM fabricated has been obtained as following. There is no change in limiting area as to the kinds of the metal ions, also the shift of conductivity as to the metal ions couldn't be observed, which was 10$\^$-14/[S/cm]. There are some changes in limiting area as to the concentration of the metal ions, the conductivity shift was increased with the occupied molecular area.

  • An electrochemical detection method for capsaicin has been developed using ionic liquid (IL) doped graphene-titania-Nafion composite-modified electrode. The combination of IL (1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium with hexafluorophosphate counter ion) in the composite-modified electrode resulted in a significantly increased electrochemical response for capsaicin compared to that obtained at the corresponding electrode without IL. The increased electrochemical signal could be ascribed to the decreased electron transfer resistance through the composite film and also to the effective accumulation of capsaicin on the electrode surface due to ${\pi}-{\pi}$ interaction of the imidazole groups of IL with the aromatic rings of capsaicin. The present IL composite-modified electrode can detect capsaicin with a concentration range from $3.0{\times}10^{-8}M$ to $1.0{\times}10^{-5}M$ with a detection limit of $3.17{\times}10^{-9}M$ (S/N = 3). The present sensor showed good reproducibility (RSD = 3.2%).

  • A new approach for the fabrication of organic-organic conducting composite thin films using simultaneous co-vaporization vapor phase polymerization (SC-VPP) of two or more monomers that have different polymerization mechanisms (i.e., oxidation-coupling polymerization and radical polymerization) was reported for the first time. In this study, a PEDOT-PSMA composite thin film consisting of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)(PEDOT) and poly(styrene-co-maleic anhydride)(PSMA) was prepared by SC-VPP process. The preparation of organic-organic conductive composite thin films was confirmed through FT-IR and $^1H-NMR$ analyses. The surface morphology analysis showed that the surface of PEDOT-PSMA thin film was rougher than that of PEDOT thin film. Therefore, PEDOT-PSMA exhibited lower electrical conductivity than that of PEDOT. But the conductivity can be improved by adding 2-ethyl-4-methyl imidazole as a weak base. The contact angle of PEDOT-PSMA was about $50^{\circ}$, as compared to $62^{\circ}$ for PEDOT. The demonstrated methodology for preparing an organic-organic conductive hybrid thin film is expected to be useful for adjusting intrinsic conductive polymer (ICP)'s surface properties such as mechanical, optical, and roughness properties.
