Purpose: This study proposes methods and procedures for evaluating imaging security systems quality of cabinet x-ray screening system to enhance performance certification technology. Also, conducted a comparative analysis of the literature of test-kit for imaging security quality evaluation. Methods: Comparative analysis of the test-kits and related documents for image quality assessment of cabinet x-ray screening equipment. This allows assessment items were selected and the methods for each assessment item were proposed. In addition, the configuration method of the assessment team was established by applying the technology readiness assessment(TRA). Results: Four of the assessment items were selected when estimate image quality by a comparative analysis of literature. For each assessment item, the evaluation method and minimum level of availability were determined. Finally, this paper proposes an imaging quality assessment of cabinet X-ray imaging security systems. Conclusion: Development of imaging security systems evaluation procedures for cabinet X-ray screening systems can be help improve performance certification of aviation security equipment.
The present study aims to develop the Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) imaging system facilitating the real-time measurement of the concentration of evaporating binary mixture droplet (BMD). We introduce the theoretical background of the SPR imaging technique and its methodology for concentration measurement. The SPR imaging system established in the present study consists of a LED light source, a polarizer, a lens, and a band pass filter for the collimated light of a 589 nm wavelength, and a CCD camera. Based on the Fresnel multiple-layer reflection theory, SPR imaging can capture the change of refractive index of evaporating BMD. For example, the present study exhibits the visualization process of ethylene glycol (EG)-water (W) BMD and measures real-time concentration change. Since the water component is more volatile than the ethylene glycol component, the refractive index of EG-W BMD varies with its mixture composition during BMD evaporation. We successfully measured the ethylene glycol concentration within the evaporating BMD by using SPR imaging.
We have investigated imaging performance of digital rediography system by measured several imaging properties such as sensitivity characteristic, scatter fraction, modulation transfer function and detective quentum efficiency. The results show that digital rediography system has linear sesitivity to incident energy, excellent scatter elliminaility and high detective quentum efficiency, but poor modulatio transfer function.

Thermal imaging is mainly used in military equipment required for night observation. In particular, technologies of uncooled thermal imaging detectors are being developed as applied to low-cost night observation system. Many system integrators require different specifications of the uncooled thermal imaging camera but their development time is short. In this approach, EOSYSTEM has developed a small size, TEC-less uncooled thermal imaging camera module with $32{\times}32mm$ size and low power consumption. Both domestic detector and import detector are applied to the EOSYSTEM's thermal imaging camera module. The camera module contains efficient infrared image processing algorithms including : Temperature compensation non-uniformity correction, Bad/Dead pixel replacement, Column noise removal, Contrast/Edge enhancement algorithms providing stable and low residual non-uniformity infrared image.
Scanners play an important role in digitally reproducing the color and imaging of original documents used in public offices; however, the current system lacks a standard for digitized documents created by scanners, complicating efforts to create a digitized system. In particular, macrography cannot guarantee the accuracy and reliability of digitalized color documents, pictures, and photographs created by scanners. To this end, we develop a standardized evaluation tool and test target to certify digitalized documents created by a scanner in the domestic environment. In this study, we enhance the accuracy and reliability of scanned data to create an advanced standard evaluation tool for scanners. Moreover, to produce a scanner certification standard, we overcome existing problems related to the growing market. We anticipate that this new standard will see a high degree of application in the current environment.
The equivalent of a thick lens is a lens which has the same power of refraction and paraxial imaging characteristics for a reference ray, but with a different axial thickness. In this study, thick lenses of an optical system were converted to their equivalent lenses referenced to pupil imaging. Aberration changes due to the lens conversion were compared to the general equivalent lens conversion referenced to object imaging.

Imaging of the dopamine transporter (DAT) provides a marker for the integrity of presynaptic nigrostriatal dopaminergic system. DAT density is reduced in Parkinson disease, multiple system atrophy, and progressive supranuclear palsy. In patients with suspicious parkinsonism, normal DAT imaging suggests an alternative diagnosis such as essential tremor, vascular parkinsonism, or drug-induced parkinsonism. DAT imaging is a useful tool to aid clinician's differential diagnosis in parkinsonism.
Recently, small-animal imaging technology has been rapidly developed for longitudinal screening of laboratory animals such as mice and rats. One of newly developed imaging modalities for small animals is an x-ray micro-CT (computed tomography). We have developed two types of x-ray micro-CT systems for small animal imaging. Both systems use flat-panel x-ray detectors and micro-focus x-ray sources to obtain high spatial resolution of $10{\mu}m$. In spite of the relatively large field-of-view (FOV) of flat-panel detectors, the spatial resolution in the whole-body imaging of rats should be sacrificed down to the order of $100{\mu}m$ due to the limited number of x-ray detector pixels. Though the spatial resolution of cone-beam CTs can be improved by moving an object toward an x-ray source, the FOV should be reduced and the object size is also limited. To overcome the limitation of the object size and resolution, we introduce zoom-in micro-tomography for high-resolution imaging of a local region-of-interest (ROI) inside a large object. For zoom-in imaging, we use two kinds of projection data in combination, one from a full FOV scan of the whole object and the other from a limited FOV scan of the ROI. Both of our micro-CT systems have zoom-in micro-tomography capability. One of both is a micro-CT system with a fixed gantry mounted with an x-ray source and a detector. An imaged object is laid on a rotating table between a source and a detector. The other micro-CT system has a rotating gantry with a fixed object table, which makes whole scans without rotating an object. In this paper, we report the results of in vivo small animal study using the developed micro-CTs.

Radioactive materials are used in medicine, non-destructive testing, and nuclear plants. Source localization is especially important during nuclear decommissioning and decontamination because the actual location of the radioactive source within nuclear waste is often unknown. The coded-aperture imaging technique started with space exploration and moved into X-ray and gamma ray imaging, which have imaging process characteristics similar to each other. In this study, we simulated $21{\times}21$ and $37{\times}37$ coded aperture collimators based on a modified uniformly redundant array (MURA) pattern to make a gamma imaging system that can localize a gamma-ray source. We designed a $21{\times}21$ coded aperture collimator that matches our gamma imaging detector and did feasibility experiments with the coded aperture imaging system. We evaluated the performance of each collimator, from 2 mm to 10 mm thicknesses (at 2 mm intervals) using root mean square error (RMSE) and sensitivity in a simulation. In experimental results, the full width half maximum (FWHM) of the point source was $5.09^{\circ}$ at the center and $4.82^{\circ}$ at the location of the source was $9^{\circ}$. We will continue to improve the decoding algorithm and optimize the collimator for high-energy gamma rays emitted from a nuclear power plant.
Intravascular optical coherence tomography (OCT) enables imaging of the three-dimensional (3D) microstructure of a blood vessel wall. While 3D vascular visualization provides detailed information of the vessel wall and intraluminal structures, a longitudinal imaging pitch that is several times bigger than the imaging resolution of the system has limited true high-resolution 3D imaging. In this paper we demonstrate high-speed intravascular OCT in vivo, acquiring images at a rate of 350 frames per second. A 47-mm-long rabbit aorta was imaged in 3.7 seconds, after a short flush with contrast agent. The longitudinal imaging pitch was 34 micrometers, comparable to the transverse imaging resolution of the system. Three-dimensional volume rendering showed greatly enhanced visualization of tissue microstructure and stent struts, relative to what is provided by conventional intravascular imaging speeds.
