Visual Programming Environment for Effective Teaching and Research in Image Processing (영상처리에서 효율적인 교육과 연구를 위한 비주얼 프로그래밍 환경 개발)

  • With the wide spread use of multimedia device, the demand for the image processing engineers are increasing in various fields. However there are few engineers who can develop practical applications in the image processing area. To teach practical image processing techniques, we need a visual programming environment which can efficiently present the image processing theories and, at the same time, provide interactive experiments for the theory presented. In this paper, we propose a visual programming environment of the integrated environment for image processing. It consists of the theory presentation systems and experiment systems based on the visual programming environment. The theory presentation systems support multimedia data, web documents and powerpoint files. The proposed system provides an integrated environment for application development as well as education. The proposed system accumulates the teaching materials and exercise data and it manages, an ideal image processing education and research environment to students and instructors.

  • The importance of software is getting high in development of the digital device (digital camcoder, digital camera, mp3 player, ....). And because the sire of software becomes larger and complicated, the necessity of software configuration management (to solves a software crisis) is increased. The general software configuration management system shows lack of the property and features of software development environment for image processing algorithm due to its wide range to be covered. Image processing algorithm development environment has properties like repetitive analysis and simulation using visual programming environment where, beside support of elementary development functions. component(or library) can be combined and tested interactively. Moreover, the method to look fast and effectively for component having similar function is required. In this paper, we present the system which supports the software configuration management method for a simulation tool and the property in the visual programming environment. And we relate our system to real simulation tool so as to check its ability as the software configuration management system for image processing algorithm development environment.

Development of Very Large Image Data Service System with Web Image Processing Technology

  • Satellite and aerial images are very useful means to monitor ecological and environmental situation. Nowadays more and more officials at Ministry of Environment in Korea need to access and use these image data through networks like internet or intranet. However it is very hard to manage and service these image data through internet or intranet, because of its size problem. In this paper very large image data service system for Ministry of Environment is constructed on web environment using image compression and web based image processing technology. Through this system, not only can officials in Ministry of Environment access and use all the image data but also can achieve several image processing effects on web environment. Moreover officials can retrieve attribute information from vector GIS data that are also integrated with the system.

In this paper, we propose an integrated education environment for the image processing, which is called MTES. It consists of the theory presentation systems and the experiment systems. The theory presentation systems support multimedia data, web document and Microsoft Powerpoint$^{TM}$ file. It is tightly integrated with the experiment systems which are developed based on the integrated image processing algorithm development system, called Hello-Vision.n.

  • Nowadays image processing is very useful for some field of traffic applications. The one reason is we can construct the system in a low price, the other is the improvement of hardware processing power, it can be more fast to processing the data. In this study, I propose the traffic monitoring system that implement on the embedded system environment. The whole system consists of two main part, one is host controller board, the other is image processing board. The part of host controller board take charge of control the total system, interface of external environment. and OSD(On screen display). The part of image processing board takes charge of image input and output using video encoder and decoder, image classification and memory control of using FPGA, control of mouse signal. And finally, fer stable operation of host controller board, uC/OS-II operating system is ported on the board.

  • High-resolution satellite image processing software should be able to ensure accurate, fast, compact data processing in offline or online environment. In this paper, component software for high-resolution satellite image processing is developed using OpenGIS components and real-time data processing architecture. The developed component software is composed of three major packages, which are data provide package, user interface package, and fast data processing package. The data provider package encodes and decodes diverse image/vector data formats and give identical data access methods to developers. The user interface package supports menus, toolbars, dialogs, and events to use easier. The fast data processing package follows the OpenGIS's data processing standards, which can deal with several processors as components with standard procedural functionalities.

  • The medical imaging processing area with the development of high-speed Internet and the portable embedded system under prevailed ubiquitous environment is quick in research and development for the system that can search and decipher the patient's information in anytime and anywhere. Especially, the new applications demand utilizing scout images besides diagnostic purposes. With the development of ubiquitous system, medical image viewers are utilizing to the hospitals combined with PACS system and Web browser. This paper implements the mobile terminal based medical image viewing system that shows the potential in wireless environment.

  • To assess tunnel safety, cracks in tunnel lining are measured by inspectors, who observe cracks with their naked eyes and record them. But manual inspection is slow, and measured crack data is subjective. Therefore, this study proposes inspection system fur measuring cracks in tunnel lining and providing objective crack data to be used in safety assessment. The system consists of On-vehicle system and Laboratory system. On-Vehicle system acquires image data with line CCD camera on scanning along the tunnel lining. Laboratory system extracts crack information from the acquired image using image processing. Measured crack information is crack thickness, length and orientation. To improve accuracy of crack recognition, the geometric properties and patterns of cracks in concrete structure were applied to image processing. The proposed system was verified with experiments in both laboratory environment and field environment such as subway tunnel.

  • This research attempts to suggest a detecting method for cutting position of an object using the neural network, which is one of intellectual methods, and the digital image processing method. The extraction method of object information using the image data obtained from the CCD camera as a replacement of traditional analog sensor thanks to the development of digital image processing. Accordingly, this research determines the threshold value in binary-coding of an input image with the help of image processing method and the neural network for the real-time gray-leveled input image in substitution for lighting; as a result, a specific position is detected from the processed binary-coded image and an actual system designed is suggested as an example.
