  • A severe drawback to the calculation of watershed images is over segmentation. Relevant object contours are lost in a sea of irrelevant ones. This is partly caused by random noise, inherent to a data, which gives rise to additional local minima, such that many catchments basins are further subdivided. Proposed watershed image segmentation algorithm is iteratively merging neighboring regions that have similar gray level distributions, to restore image.

  • This paper presents a brush stroke direction creation method to distill painterly expressions from picture images. In actual paintings, each brush stroke has the same directionality in one segmented area. but directionality changes in the area of image border edges. This study employed the following methods to implement the directionality of the brush stroke area by: (1) detecting edge in input images, (2) region splitting and merging based on quad-tree division method, and (3) composing a direction map to create brush strokes with the same directionality in the segmented area. The results of the implementation enabled the simulation of the directionality of the stroke area shown in actual paintings.

  • This paper presents an overall image processing approach of defect inspection of patterned TFT-LCD panels for the real manufacturing process. A prototype of AOI(Automatic Optical Inspection) system which is composed of air floating stage and multi line scan cameras is developed. Adjacent pattern comparison algorithm is enhanced and used for pattern elimination to extract defects in the patterned image of TFT-LCD panels. New region merging algorithm which is based on border expansion is proposed to identify defects from the pattern eliminated defect image. Experimental results show that a developed AOI system has acceptable performance and the proposed algorithm reduces environmental effects and processing time effectively for applying to the real manufacturing process.

  • This image of Kangseogu in Pusan, is a digital merge of aerial photos by scale of 1/1,200 map. The merge was carried out 2nd affine and bilinear interpolation. It can improve digital classification to help choose training sites and interprete classification results, and improve visual interpretation, as in this case, by adding detailed information to the multispectral TM data.

  • In the pursuit of enhancing image fusion techniques, this research presents a novel approach for fusing multimodal images, specifically infrared (IR) and visible (VIS) images, utilizing a combination of partial differential equations (PDE) and discrete cosine transformation (DCT). The proposed method seeks to leverage the thermal and structural information provided by IR imaging and the fine-grained details offered by VIS imaging create composite images that are superior in quality and informativeness. Through a meticulous fusion process, which involves PDE-guided fusion, DCT component selection, and weighted combination, the methodology aims to strike a balance that optimally preserves essential features and minimizes artifacts. Rigorous evaluations, both objective and subjective, are conducted to validate the effectiveness of the approach. This research contributes to the ongoing advancement of multimodal image fusion, addressing applications in fields like medical imaging, surveillance, and remote sensing, where the marriage of IR and VIS data is of paramount importance.

  • The accuracy of input coordinates of ground control points and check points affects great influences to the results of ground coordinate computation in using SPOT digital image data. The original SPOT images displayed on CRT are not usually adequate for identifying the object features and determining the point positioning. Hence, appropriate image processing techniques such as contrast enhancement, subpixel interpolation, edge enhancement, and spatial filtering are needed. In this study, the principles of digital image processing needed for accurate three dimensional positioning and spectral characteristic analysis are investigated. The algorithms for the actual applications are developed and programmed. And using the developed image processing software, some SPOT P-mode and XS-mode images are merged into the SPOT P+XS, the high-resolution color composite image.

  • In this paper, we discussed the region-based image retrieval method using image segmentation. We proposed a segmentation method which can reduce the effect of a irregular light sources. The image segmentation method uses a region-merging, and candidate regions which are merged were selected by the energy values of high frequency bands in discrete wavelet transform. The content-based image retrieval is executed by using the segmented region information, and the images are retrieved by a color, texture, shape feature vector. The similarity measure between regions is processed by the Euclidean distance of the feature vectors. The simulation results shows that the proposed method is reasonable.

  • Selecting locally optimum thresholds, based on optimizing a criterion composed of the area variation rate and the compactness of the segmented shape, is presented. The method is shown to have the shape-resolving property in the subtraction image, so that overlapped objects may be resolved into bright and dark evidences characterizing each object. As an application a vehicle detection algorithm robust to the operating conditions could be realized by applying simple merging rules to the geometrically correlated bright and dark evidences obtained by this local thresholding.

  • The recovery of 3D scene structure from multiple views has been long one of the central problems in computer vision. This paper presents a new projective reconstruction method based on factorization for un-calibrated image sequences. The proposed algorithm provides an effective measure to construct frame groups by using various information between frames. The experimental results show that the proposed method can reconstruct a more precise 3D structure than the precious methods such as the merging method.
