  • Image Guided Surgery (IGS) system which has variously tried in medical engineering fields is able to give a surgeon objective information of operation process like decision making and surgical planning. This information is displayed through 3D images which are acquired from image modalities like CT and MRI for pre-operation. The technique of image registration is necessary to construct IGS system. Image registration means that 3D model and the object operated by a surgeon are matched on the common frame. Major techniques of registration in IGS system have been used by recognizing fiducial markers placed on the object. However, this method has been criticized due to additional trauma, its invasive protocol inserting fiducial markers in patient's bone and generating noise data when 2D slice images are acquired by image modality because many markers are made of metal. Therefore, this paper developed shape-based registration technique to improve the limitation of fiducial marker based IGS system. Iterative Closest Points (ICP) algorithm was used to match corresponding points and quaternion based rotation and translation transformation using closed form solution applied to find the optimized cost function of transformation. we assumed that this algorithm were used in Total Knee replacement (TKR) operation. Accordingly, we have developed region-based 3D registration technique based on anatomical landmarks and this registration algorithm was evaluated in a femur model. It was found that region-based algorithm can improve the accuracy in 3D registration.

  • At mesoscale, concrete is considered as a three-phase composite material consisting of the aggregate particles, the cement matrix and the interfacial transition zone (ITZ). The reconstruction of the internal structures for concrete composites requires the identification of the boundary of the aggregate particles and the cement matrix using digital imaging technology followed by post-processing through MATLAB. A parameter study covers the subsection transformation, median filter, and open and close operation of the digital image sample to obtain the optimal parameter for performing the image processing technology. The subsection transformation is performed using a grey histogram of the digital image samples with a threshold value of [120, 210] followed by median filtering with a $16{\times}16$ square module based on the dimensions of the aggregate particles and their internal impurity. We then select a "disk" tectonic structure with a specific radius, which performs open and close operations on the images. The edges of the aggregate particles (similar to the original digital images) are obtained using the canny edge detection method. The finite element model at mesoscale can be established using the proposed image processing technology. The location of the crack determined through the numerical method is identical to the experimental result, and the load-displacement curve determined through the numerical method is in close agreement with the experimental results. Comparisons of the numerical and experimental results show that the proposed image processing technology is highly effective in reconstructing the internal structures of concrete composites.

  • In this paper, we implemented a content-based image retrieval system that user can choose a wanted query region of object and retrieve similar object from image database. Query image is induced to wavelet transformation after divided into hue components and gray components that hue features is extracted through color autocorrelogram and dispersion in hue components. Texture feature is extracted through autocorrelogram and GLCM in gray components also. Using features of two components, retrieval is processed to compare each similarity with database image. In here, weight value is applied to each similarity value. We make up for each defect by deriving features from two components beside one that elevations of recall and precision are verified in experiment results. Moreover, retrieval efficiency is improved by weight value. And various features of database images are indexed automatically in feature library that make possible to rapid image retrieval.

  • In this paper a method of reconstructing a desired image through the geometrical transformation and the interpolation techniques is presented by comparing different interpolation schemes. Several different interpolation schemes are compared with respect to the amount of error that is the difference between the original and the reverse-projective transformed images. Higher ordered B-spline interpolation turned to be superior to other techniques in reconstructing the image which is desired to be close to the unskewed image as much as possible. In the results, this paper demonstrates that the reverse projection using the higher ordered B-spline interpolation is superior to those conventional interpolation methods, linear, cubic spline for reconstructing image. In experiments, the error decreases as the order of B-spline increases. The proposed technique is useful for various practical and theoretical applications in the area of satellite, medical, and commercial image processing.

  • One method for image recognition is template matching. In conventional template matching, the block matching algorithm (BMA) is performed while changing the two-dimensional translational displacement of the template within a given matching image. The template size and shape do not change during the BMA. Since only two-dimensional translational displacement is considered, the success rate decreases if the size and direction of the object do not match in the template and the matching image. In this paper, a variable is added to adjust the two-dimensional direction and size of the template, and the optimal value of the variable is automatically calculated in the block corresponding to each two-dimensional translational displacement. Using the calculated optimal value, the template is automatically transformed into an optimal template for each block. The matching error value of each block is then calculated based on the automatically deformed template. Therefore, a more stable result can be obtained for the difference in direction and size. For ease of use, this study focuses on designing the algorithm in a closed form that does not require additional information beyond the template image, such as distance information.

  • Image-image translation is a technology that creates a target image through input images, and has recently shown high performance in creating a more realistic image by utilizing GAN, which is a non-map learning structure. Therefore, there are various studies on image-to-image translation using GAN. At this point, most image-to-image translations basically target one attribute translation. But the data used and obtainable in real life consist of a variety of features that are hard to explain with one feature. Therefore, if you aim to change multiple attributes that can divide the image creation process by attributes to take advantage of the various attributes, you will be able to play a better role in image-to-image translation. In this paper, we propose Multi CycleGAN, a dual attribute transformation structure, by utilizing CycleGAN, which showed high performance among image-image translation structures using GAN. This structure implements a dual transformation structure in which three domains conduct two-way learning to learn about the two properties of an input domain. Experiments have shown that images through the new structure maintain the properties of the input area and show high performance with the target properties applied. Using this structure, it is possible to create more diverse images in the future, so we can expect to utilize image generation in more diverse areas.

  • The aim of this study is to find out the symbol of clothing decorations in Elsa Schiaparalli's design works and there are four major points due to the aim of this study. Firstly, a fantasy is represented through Surrealistic Arts which creates mysterious, secrete, and surprising spirits. In Surrealistic Arts, the fashion of schiaparelli demonstrates a fantasy spirit by using the methods like metaphor, transformation, and re-positioning. Secondly, In Surrealistic paintings, normally double image or different image from symbol immanent were expressed. However, Elsa Schiaparelli used double and multi-image decorations instead that has well-organized formative effect. The mixture of double images can be separated as symbolic mixture, design mixture and expressive mixture. Thirdly, the body parts has represented symbolism and sensuality in Surrealism Arts. Elsa Schiaparelli has demonstrated the expression of modern clothing as passionate, desirable, and powerful. This is the reason why her designs were absolutely different from the previous sihouette-focused clothing. Fourth, there are lots of intentional decoration that are different from actual images, such as transformation, exaggeration, minimization and repettion, as well as, re-location, re-arrangement, line-up arrangement, collage and odd materials.
