The digital substations are being built based on the IEC 61850 network. The cooperation and protection of power system are becoming more intelligent and reliable in the environment of digital substation. This paper proposes a novel method to prevent the malfunction caused by the Transformer Magnetizing Inrush Current(TMIC) using the IEC 61850 based data sharing between the IEDs. To protect a main transformer, the current differential protection(87T) and over-current protection(50/51) are used generally. The 87T IED applies to the second harmonic blocking method to prevent the malfunction caused by the TMIC. However, the 50/51 IED may malfunction caused by the TMIC. To solve that problem, the proposed method uses a GOOSE inter-lock signal between two IEDs. The 87T IED transmits a blocking GOOSE signal to the 50/51 IED, when the TMIC is detected. The proposed method can make a cooperation of digital substation protection system more intelligent. To verify the performance of proposed method, this paper performs the real time test using the RTDS (Real Time Digital Simulator) test-bed. Using the RTDS, the power system transients are simulated, and the TMIC is generated. The performance of proposed method is verified in real-time using that actual current signals. The reaction of simulated power system responding to the operation of IEDs can be also confirmed.

While the legacy electric grid evolving into the smart grid, various communication standards have been used for interoperability between many components. In this situation, the needs emerged for protocol conversion and mapping method for connecting the outside components to the operation center. In this paper, according to the surge of IEC 61850-based substation automation, we studied the protocol conversion gateway for linking legacy DNP3-based control center and IEC 61850-based substation automation. This paper is based on the IEEE 1815.1 standard for the protocol mapping. We suggested the direction of development the gateway and developed prototype for evaluate the proposed gateway. Also, we bring up a security problem and give a solution.
The Partial Discharge Monitoring System is technology which is available to measure & analysis the partial discharge of Power equipment. This technology is in the limelight as a pre-forecast system of equipment defect but there are some problems like no protocol standard, layered network management and the limitation of physical size. This paper presents whole system structure includes engineering centers, LN(Logical Node) to apply PDMS for, base-digital substation system, ICE61850 compatible Condition Monitoring &Diagnosis (CMD), Local Unit(LU), Intelligent Electronic Device (IED) for the solution scheme of these limitations.

In order to prevent loss of communication packets and drop of transmission speed owing to the network fault occurrence, it should be considered network redundancy. That is why a messages of IED GOOSE is the critical signal in charge of protection and control of the substation. So most of users implement the substation automation system with Hybrid network topology ant IED supporting double ethernet ports. Because IEC 61850 GOOSE conformance test is limited in the functional test, this paper suggests how to test the performance of IED GOOSE transmission considering Network redundancy, and describes the analysis of an example test on real IEDs and how to impact the IED GOOSE performance to the substation automation system.

This study presents a method for generating IEC 61850 Sampled Values(SV) traffic by combining the emulation function of network simulator ns-3 with the actual communication equipment. For the SV traffic generation and reception, the emulation function of the network simulator ns-3 is used, while as a communication network, the actual communication equipment, switches are used. In addition, the SV traffic frames generated are analyzed, using Wireshark, and it is confirmed that the SV traffic frames are generated accurately. The method for the SV traffic generation proposed in the present study will be very useful when various SV traffics are generated under the environment of an actual substation.
TETRA is the standard of Digital Trunked Radio System suggested by the ETSI(European Telecommunications Standards Institut ). It is adopted as Electric Power IT Wireless Backbone Network in Korea. Police station and Fire Station are using TETRA network. Currently, Power Automation Protocols are DNP3.0 in Distribution Automation System, DLMS in Auto Metering Infrastructure, IEC61850 in Substation Automation. These protocols are transmissions using CDMA or WCDMA modem. If Power Automation protocol uses TETRA networks, it can be interoperable with the systems in police or fire stations. And it has outstanding ability to handle problems in a disaster situation. So, This paper propose a gateway system of Power Automation which can transmit the power automation protocol using TETRA.
This paper presented future power system protection technologies through the HW/SW integration platform with IEC 61850 and IEEE c37.238 standards. To determine the implementation performance of the integrated platform, an example of EVM (Evaluation Module) was constructed to satisfy the standards. The platform has been identified as a future power system integrated IED(Intelligent Electronic Device) HW/SW technology that meets the level of error required by the time sync standard and the level of delay required by protecting the power system.

It is a study for the evaluation of the stability of the distribution automation system for the expansion of renewable energy. Through the Renewable Energy 3020 Implementation Plan, the government plans to expand new renewable energy and convert it to participatory energy that improves the quality of life of the people by 2030. The government has set a target of 20% of domestic supply energy for renewable energy generation by 2030. It is planning to establish more than 95 percent of its new facilities with clean energy such as solar power and wind power. By expanding the supply of renewable energy, new energy businesses and distributed power industry were fostered, and short-distance, low-voltage, and small-scale power generation were rapidly expanded rather than large-scale power development in the past. Due to this demand, the importance of power distribution facility operation has emerged and the need for distribution automation system is increasing. This paper discusses the development of a power distribution simulator for the performance and function evaluation of power distribution automation systems and presents the results of an interlocking test with the power distribution automation system. In order to introduce an advanced system into the power distribution system, it is necessary to take advantage of the transmission and distribution system. The DNP3.0 protocol is used in the distribution system and the IEC61850 protocol is used in the transmission and distribution system. It was concluded that the functions and performance of operations were satisfied when these two protocols are mixed and used in the distribution automation system.
