The T-s chart of air displays graphically the thermophysical properties, so it is very conveniently used in various thermal systems. In previous study, the software analyzing 31 kinds of values in water system and 32 kinds of values in air-conditioning system were developed. In this study, the software drawing 13 kinds of quantity of state on air properties as ideal gas and analyzing 25 kinds of values in any air system was developed. The 13 kinds of quantity of state on air properties are temperature, pressure, specific volume, specific internal energy, specific enthalpy, specific entropy, specific exergy, exergy ratio, density, isobaric specific heat, isochoric specific heat, ratio of specific heat, and velocity of sound, and the 25 kinds of values including 13 kinds are mass flow rate, volume flow rate, internal energy flow rate, enthalpy flow rate, entropy flow rate, exergy flow rate, heat flow rate, power output, power efficiency, reversible work, lost work, and relative humidity. The developed software can draw any range of chart and analysis any state or process on air system. Also, this supports various document-editing functions such as power point. We wish to this chart is a help to design, analysis, and education in air system field.
During stamping processes, the air trapped between sheet metal and the die cavity can be highly compressed and ultimately reduce the shape accuracy of formed panels. To prevent this problem, vent holes and passages are sometimes drilled into the based on expert experience and know-how. CAE can be also used for analyzing the air behavior in die cavity during stamping process, incorporating both elasto-plastic behavior of sheet metal and the fluid dynamic behavior of air. This study presents sheet metal forming simulation combined simultaneously with simulation of air behavior in the die cavity. There are three approaches in modeling of air behavior. One is a simple assumption of the bulk modulus having a constant pressure depending on volume change. The next is the use of the ideal gas law having uniform pressure and temperature in air domain. The third is FPM (Finite point method) having non-uniform pressure in air domain. This approach enables direct coupling of mechanical behavior of solid sheet metal and the fluid behavior of air in sheet metal forming simulation, and its result provides the first-hand idea for the location, size and number of the vent holes. In this study, commercial software, PAM-$STAMP^{TM}$ and PAM-$SAFE^{TM}$, were used.
Polyimide membrane system was designed for manufacturing nitrogen-enriched gas, and basic technical data was suggested for appling this system to controlled atmosphere storage. The permeability characteristics of pure oxygen and nitrogen could be explained by dual-mode sorption model. There was substantial decrease in the permeation rates of oxygen, which is the more permeable gas, through the polyimide membrane due to the presence of nitrogen in comparison with pure oxygen. However, the permeation rates of nitrogen was increased by the presence of oxygen. The ideal separation factor was in the range of 5 to 6 in the range of temperature and pressure difference studied, and the separation factor of air was lower than the ideal separation factor. The increase of ideal separation factor with increasing temperature is due to the fact that the activation energy for oxygen is larger than that for nitrogen. Nitrogen concentration decreased rapidly with increasing product recovery, and it was found that this is a major operating factor to obtain nitrogen concentration required for controlled atmosphere storage. A relation equation, by which nitrogen concentration in storehouse can be predicted, was suggested under the establishment of a hypothetical model for controlled atmosphere storage process using polyimide membrane system.
In this study, we investigated permeation properties of single gas ($N_2$, $O_2$, $CO_2$) through membranes composed of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) (EVA) blend. The prepared membranes showed no new absorbance peaks, which indicate the physical blending of PEO and EVA by FT-IR analysis. SEM observation showed that the crystalline phase of PEO decreased with increasing EVA content in the PEO/EVA mixed matrix. DSC analysis showed that the crystallinity of the PEO/EVA blend membrane decreased with increasing EVA content. Gas permeation experiment was performed with various feed pressure (4~8 bar). The permeability increased in the following order: $N_2$ < $O_2$ < $CO_2$. The permeability of $CO_2$ in PEO/EVA blend membranes were increased with increasing feed pressure, However, the permeability of $N_2$ and $O_2$ were independent of feed pressure. On the other hand, the permeability of all the gases in PEO/EVA blend membranes increased with increasing amorphous EVA content in semi-crystalline PEO. In particular, the blend membrane with 40 wt% EVA showed $CO_2$ permeability of 64 Barrer and $CO_2/N_2$ ideal selectivity of 61.5. The high $CO_2$ permeability and $CO_2/N_2$ ideal selectivity are attributed to strong affinity between the polar ether groups of PEO or the polar ester groups of EVA and polar $CO_2$.
In this study, a three-pad gas foil journal bearing with a diameter of 40 mm and an axial length of 35 mm was modeled to predict the static and dynamic performances with regard to an increasing mechanical preload. The Reynolds equation for an isothermal and isoviscous ideal gas was coupled with a simple elastic foundation foil model to calculate the hydrodynamic pressure solution iteratively. In the prediction results, the journal eccentricity, journal attitude angle, and minimum film thickness decreased, but the friction torque increased with the preload. A quick comparison implied a lower load capacity but higher stability for a three-pad gas foil bearing compared to a one-pad gas foil journal bearing. The direct stiffness coefficients increased with the preload, but the cross-coupled stiffness coefficients decreased. The direct damping coefficient increased in the horizontal direction but decreased in the vertical direction as the preload increased. These model predictions will be useful as a benchmark against experimental test data.

An unique ceramic material produced through unidirectional solidification with eutectic composition of two-phase oxides was introduced recently. This composite material has the microstructure of coupled networks of two single crystals interpenetrate each other without grain boundaries. Depending on this microstructure this material, called Melt Growth Composite (MGC), can sustain its room temperature strength up to 1$700^{\circ}C$ (near its melting point) and offer strong oxidization-resistant ability, making its characteristics quite ideal for the gas turbine application. The research project on MGC started in 2001 with the objective of establishing component technologies for MGC application to the high temperature components of the gas turbine engine. MGC turbine nozzles are expected to improve efficiency of gas turbine. However, reduction of the thermal stress is required since high thermal stress is easily generated in MGC turbine nozzles due to temperature distribution. Firstly, the hollow nozzle shape was optimized to reduce thermal stress using numerical analysis. From the results of the first hot gas flow tests, the thermal stress due to span-wise temperature distribution was required to be reduced, and separated nozzle to three pieces was designed. This was tested in hot gas flow at 140$0^{\circ}C$ level, and temperature distributions on the nozzle surface were obtained and stress field was evaluated.
A series of hydroxyl-group containing polyimides (HPIs) were prepared in order to investigate the structure-gas permeation property relationship. Each polymer membrane had structural characteristics that varied according to the dianhydride monomers. The imidization processes were monitored using spectroscopic and thermog-ravimetric analyses. The single gas permeability of He, $H_2$, $CO_2$, $O_2$, $N_2$ and $CH_4$ were measured and compared in order to determine the effect of the polymer structure and functional -OH groups on the gas transport properties. Surprisingly, the ideal selectivity of $CO_2/CH_4$ and $H_2/CH_4$ increased with increasing level of -OH incorporation, which affected the diffusion of $H_2$ or the solubility of $CO_2$ in HPIs. For $H_2/CH_4$ separation, the difference in the diffusion coefficients of $H_2$ and $CH_4$ was the main factor for improving the performance without showing any changes in the solubility coefficients. However, the solubility coefficient of $CO_2$ in the HPIs increased at least four fold compared with the conventional polyimide membranes depending on the polymer structures. Based on these results, the polymer membranes modified with -OH groups in the polymer backbone showed favorable gas permeation and separation performance.

Carbon nanotubes(CNT) has strength and chemical stability, greatly conductivity characteristics. In particular, MWCNT (multi-walled carbon nanotubes) show rapidly resistance sensitive for changes in the ambient gas, and therefore they are ideal materials to gas sensor. So, we fabricated NOx gas sensors structured MOS-FET using MWCNT (multi-walled carbon nanotubes) material. We investigate the change resistance of NOx gas sensors based on MOS-FET with ultra lean NOx gas concentrations absorption. And NOx gas sensors show sensitivity on the change of gate-source voltage ($V_{gs}=0[V]$ or $V_{gs}=3.5[V]$). The gas sensors show the increase of sensitivity with increasing the temperature (largest value at $40^{\circ}C$). On the other hand, the sensitivity of sensors decreased with increasing of NOx gas concentration. In addition, We obtained the adsorption energy($U_a$), $U_a$ = 0.06714[eV] at the NOx gas concentration of 8[ppm], $U_a$ = 0.06769[eV] at 16[ppm], $U_a$ = 0.06847[eV] at 24[ppm] and $U_a$ = 0.06842[eV] at 32[ppm], of NOx gas molecules concentration on the MWCNT gas sensors surface with using the Arrhenius plots. As a result, the saturation phenomena is occurred by NOx gas injection of concentration for 32[ppm].

A computer simulation model of a hermetic reciprocating type of refrigeration compressor has been developed. The compressor simulation model constitutes 6 control volumes, to each of which conservation laws of mass and energy are applied to yield full description of the refrigerant state along its passage. Instead of ideal gas assumption. real gas equation is employed. Some of valve-related input data required for the simulation are acquired from test bench experiments. The refrigerant states such as pressure and temperature, etc., mass flow rates, and valve motions can be predicted by the simulation. The calculated P-V diagram shows a good agreement with experimental result.
