  • A novel catalytic kinetic method is proposed for the determination of Se(IV), Se(VI) and total inorganic selenium in water based on the catalytic effect of Se(IV) on the reduction of bromate by p-nitrophenylhydrazine at pH 3.0. The generated bromine, $Br_2$ or $Cl_2$ plus $Br_2$ in 0.1 M NaCl (or NaBr) environment efficiently decolorized Calmagite and the reaction was monitored spectrophotometrically at 523 nm as a function of time. In this indicator reaction, bromide acted as an activator for the catalysis of selenium (IV) and a reducing agent for selenium (VI) at pH 3.0, which allowed the determination of total selenium. The fixed time method was adopted for the determination and speciation of inorganic selenium. Under the optimum conditions, the calibration graph are linear in the range 1 - 35 ${\mu}gL^{-1}$ of Se(IV) for the fixed time method at $25^{\circ}C$. The detection limit based on statistical $3S_{blank}$/m-criterion was 0.215 ${\mu}gL^{-1}$ for the fixed time method (7 min). All of the variables that affect the sensitivity at 523 nm were investigated, and the optimum conditions were established. The interference effect of various cations and anions on the Se (IV) determination was also studied. The selectivity of the selenium determination was greatly improved with the use of the strongly cation exchange resin such as Amberlite IR120 plus. The proposed kinetic method was validated statistically and through recovery studies in natural water samples. The RSDs for ten replicate measurements of 5, 15 and 25 ${\mu}gL^{-1}$ of Se(IV) and Se(VI) was changed between 2.1 - 4.85%. Analyses of a certified standard reference material (NIST SRM 1643e) for selenium using the fixed-time method showed that the proposed kinetic method has good accuracy. Se(IV), Se(VI) and total inorganic selenium in environmental water samples have been successfully determined by this method after selective reduction of Se(VI) to Se(IV).

  • This paper tries to elicit an optimal generation mix of Korea. Two approaches, using the screening curve method and taking advantage of a generation expansion planning tool, WASP-IV, are applied in getting the mix. The data used in this study is based on the 5th basic plan for long-term electricity supply and demand. The Load Duration Curve, that is needed for applying Screening Curve Method(SCM), is made based on the load profile in 2010. In our using SCM, the nuclear plant's operation characteristic, carbon emission cost and spinning reserve are considered. In using WASP-IV to get the adequate generation mix, the base and target demand forecasts in the 5th basic plan are used and the carbon emission cost is also considered. In this paper, It introduces the domestic adequacy generation mix in 2024 though SCM and WASP-IV.

  • In analysis of resolution IV fractional factorial experiments, the main effects only are analyzed, even though we can get some useful information on the confounded 2-factor interactions. In this paper, we introduce an exploiting method of the confounded structure of interactions, especially for the near minimal resolution IV 3$^{t}$ fractional factorial designs developed by Anderson and Thomas (1979). Moreover, in this paper the application way of the proposed method is also discussed by analyzing some simulated data.

  • To evaluate the HU value of the IV catheter fragment of CT on the accuracy and size in the peripheral vein. Pilot study of profile and table functions on PC by software was calculated of HU value of IV catheter fragment. This study demonstrates the utility of volume rendering technique to localize a small, subtle IV catheter, which can easily be reformatted of MDCT reformations. IV catheter fragment optimal image described as threshold range. Volume rendering of HU using a MDCT is an excellent method for evaluation the IV catheter fragment in three dimension.

  • Vanadium (IV) and vanadium (V) cupferrate compositions in benzene phase were determined by molar ratio method and continuous variation method spectrophotometrically at 450$m{\mu}$ or 445$m{\mu}$ of wavelength. Compositions of vanadium (IV) cupferrates, V(IV)/Cupf, varied from 1/2 to 1/4 with the acidity of solution from which the complexes were precipitated. The complexes precipitated were vanadium(IV) cupferrate($VCupf_4$) in solution with lower pH than 1.0, and vanadyl(IV) cupferrate ($VOCupf_2$) in solution with 1.8-4.3 of pH. It was considered, however, that the complexes in solution with 1.3-1.7 of pH might be hydrogen vanadyl(IV) cupferrate ($HVOCupf_3$) or nearly equimolar mixture of $VCupf_4\;and\;VOCupf_2$ complexes. Vanadium (V) cupferrate composition did not vary with the acidity of solution from which the complexes were precipitated. In solution with lower pH than 1.8, the complex precipitated was hydrogen vanadyl (V) cupferrate, $HVO_2Cupf_2$.

  • Three Arsenazo I-XAD Chelating resins, with different surface areas and pore sizes were synthesized and characterized. The total sorption capacities of these chelating resins for Cu(II) at pH 5.0 by batch method decreased as follows, Arsenazo I-XAD-16(0.59mmol/g)>Arsenazo I-XAD-4(0.56mmol/g)>Arsenazo I-XAD-2(0.38mmol/g). The sorption and desorption properties of Arsenazo I-XAD-16 chelating resins for U(VI), Th(IV), Hf(IV), Zr(IV), Ni(II), Mn(II), Cd(II). and Cu(II) were studied by both batch and elution method. The Arsenazo I-XAD-16 chelating resin was successfully applied to the separation and concentration of trace U(VI) and Th(IV) in sea and waste waters.

  • This paper describes the method of operating the phase controlled rectifier by controlling the firing angle in III, IV quadrant to absorb the lrading reactive power and of improving the waveform of ac current by driving dual converter. The system is intended to compensate the reactive power for any lagging load. Also, by the above method this paper enables us to improve the power factor and waveform referred to the source current and the dc output voltage in the converter.

  • This paper describes a method for identifying the dynamic characteristics of air foil bearings for high speed turbomachinerys with the LS/IV method. In fact identifying the characteristics of air foil bearings is very difficult work, and it is tried to identify it. Experiments were conducted to determine the structural dynamic and hydrodynamic characteristics of air foil bearings. Numerical predictions compare the static and dynamic force performances. The housing of the bearing on the journal was driven by the impact hammer which were used to simulate impact force acting on air foil bearings. The characteristics of air foil bearings were extracted from the frequency response function (FRF) by LS(Least Square) method and IV(Instrumental Variable) method. The experiment was tested at 0 rpm and $10000\sim16000rpm$. And the test results were introduced about the dynamic characteristics of air foil bearings, and also compared with theoritical results.

  • The nonlinear estimation and the pseudo-linear estimation are used to treat the target localization in sensor network which provides range difference of arrival (RDOA) measurements. It is known that the nonlinear estimation has sensitive problem for the initial estimate and the pseudo-linear estimation has a large estimation error. The QCLS method is the typical estimator of the methods for pseudo-linear estimation. However the estimate by using the QCLS method includes the estimation error because the first stage of two estimation processes of the QCLS method causes the biased estimation error. Therefore we propose a instrumental variables(IV) method for minimizing the estimation error of the first stage. The simulation shows that the performance of the proposed method is superior to the QCLS method.

  • Recently, there has been considerable concern about waste water discharges of chromium. The Chromium(IV) is of particular concern because this form has been demonstrated to be public health hazard. Chromium(IV) could be removed by the method of electrolysis from plating waste water. It was found that almost all of chromium(IV) present could be treated by electrolysis at current, 3A and pH 8.
