  • Acrosome reaction usually occures just before fertilization in most mammals, and it has been known that $Ca^{2+}$ plays an important role in the acrosome reaction and albumin also known as a critical factor for spermatozoan activities. The present study has been designed in order to observe maturing processes of the spermatozoa occurred in the ductus epididymidis and to clarify the relationships of $Ca^{2+}$ concentrations with those processes, and to compare the enzymatic activities of ATPase and the lactate dehydrogenase of the spermatozoa in accordance with time before and after the spermatozoan maturation. From the results, we can confirm that most of the bat spermatozoa come to maturity within the epididymal cauda and may pass through capacitation outside the cauda. However it is expected to be studied that the fluctuation of spermatogenic activity depending on temperature changes and their relationships with the ductus epididymidis and their mutual influences.

  • This study is conducted to analyze the difference among college students' department satisfaction, career maturity, and career stress, and to examine the influence of department satisfaction and career maturity on career stress. A survey was done among 824 college students using the scales on department satisfaction, career maturity, and career stress and the following results were found. First of all, department satisfaction, career maturity, and career stress had statistically significant differences based on students year, age, academic records, entrance motive, peer relation, and health condition. Secondly, the subfactors of department satisfaction, namely, course satisfaction, relationship satisfaction, general satisfaction, and recognition satisfaction, showed statistically significant differences according to age, gender, academic records, entrance motive, peer relation, and health condition. Thirdly, the subfactors of career maturity, namely, determinacy, participation, independence, tendency, and compromise, had statistically significant differences according to year and age. Lastly, career maturity and department satisfaction considerably influenced career stress: when department satisfaction and career maturity were lower, career stress was higher. These results indicate that department satisfaction and career maturity correlate with career stress. Therefore, in order to decrease career stress, college students who maintain a low level of department satisfaction and career maturity should receive active guidance and education.

  • In order to investigate the possibility of using a cervical vertebral maturation indicator as a mandibular growth indicator, the relationship of cervical vertebral maturation and mandibular & body height growth changes was assessed in biennial serial lateral cephalometric radiographs of eighteen korean male and fourteen korean female while they were 8.5 to 18.5 years old. The following results were obtained. 1. It was a reliable method to evaluate skeletal maturation by using cervical vertebrae. 2. In general, cervical vertebral maturation stages of females were higher than those of males at the same age and there were significant differences in statistics at the age of 10.5, 14.5. 3. The age of a female at the same cervical vertebral maturation stage were earlier than that of a male. 4. In the case of males, significant Ar-Gn increases were found between stage 3 and 4,5; Ar-Go increases between stage 4 and 5. 5. In the case of females, significant S-Gn and Ar-Gn increases were (end between stage 3 and 4. 6. Significant body height increases were found between stage 3 and 4 in both sexes. 7. The peak velocity of body height and mandibular length was observed between cervical vertebral maturation stage 3 and 4 in both sexes. 8. The relationship between mandibular & body height changes and specific maturation stage of cervical vertebra was found, therfore using a cervical vertebral maturation indicator as mandibular growth indicator is quite within realms of possibility.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of in vitro maturation (IVM) duration of porcine follicular oocytes on maturation rate, polyspermic rate, and subsequent embryo development. The nuclear maturation rates of oocytes matured for 36, 38, 40, 42 and 44 hr were similar between 68.0, 78.0, 79.5, 73.8 and 81.8% respectively. There was no significant difference in the rates of polyspermy after in vitro feritilization (IVF). The cleavage rate in the group of 36 hr was significantly higher in than that of 40, 44 hr (p<0.05) but not to 38 and 42 hr. The development rate to blastocyst stage was significantly higher in the group of 38 hr (23.1%) than that in the group of 44 hr (15.6%) (p<0.05) but not to 36, 40 and 42 hr. These results suggest that the aged oocytes for 44 hr is not required for the production of bias to cysts derived from porcine IVF embryos.

  • This study investigated the effects of goat blood serum (gBS), goat follicular fluid (gFF) and gonadotropin (FSH) on the in vitro maturation, fertilization and development of Korean native black goat oocytes. Our results indicate that the gBS combined with FSH treated group showed significantly higher maturation rate than the other groups. Furthermore, blastocyst formation rate was significantly increased in all treated groups, and gBS and gFF combined with FSH treated groups were higher than other groups. However, gene expression levels of BMP15 and GDF9 in COC, both oocyte maturation related genes, remained unaffected after 24 h maturation. The results of the present study indicate that supplementation of the maturation medium with gBS, gFF and FSH is efficacious in improving the in vitro maturation, fertilization and development of Korea native black goat oocytes.
