The potential hazards resulting from a low-velocity impact(bird-strike, tool drop, runway debris, etc.) on aircraft structures, such as engine nacelle or leading edges has been a long-term concern to the aircraft industry. Certification authorities require that exposed aircraft components must be tested to prove their capability to withstand low-velocity impact without suffering critical damage. In most of the past research studies unloaded specimens have been used for impact tests, however, in reality it is much more likely that a composite structure is exposed to a certain stress state when it is being impacted, which can have a significant effect on the impact performance. And the radiated impact sound induced by impact is analyzed for the damage detection evaluation. In this study, an investigation was undertaken to evaluate the effect in-plane loading on the impact force and sound of composite laminates numerically.
Impact force to a body during walking depends on walking speed, walking steps, the condition of the floors and shoes, and weight. The ground reaction force and the foot pressure can be measured instantaneous force easily, but it's difficult to find out the amount of transferring forces to the body. On the other hand, the acceleration has an advantage for analyzing the amount of transferring forces. However, most of studies about impact forces to the ground reaction during exercise have been limited to analyze instantaneous forces. The important thing is to evaluate characters and the amount of the impact force rather than the magnitude. Therefore, this study analyze the impact force using 3 axis acceleration in three dimensions (x; anterior-posterior, y; left-right and z; longitudinal axis) using three axis acceleration. As working speed increased, impact forces increased significantly. Impact forces on x axis and z axis are higher at lower limb than that of upper limb. However, impact force at the knee is higher than that of other parts on y axis regardless of walking speed significantly. In addition, relations of the impact forces as interaction of experiment factors as well as effect of each factor are analyzed.
The needs of walking assistive device such as the Ankle Foot Orthosis (A.F.O.) are getting greater than before. However, most of the A.F.O. are generally imported rather than domestic manufacturing. The major reason of high import reliability is the rack of impact properties of domestic commercial products. Therefore, this research is going to focus on the evaluation of impact properties of the A.F.O. which has the high import reliability. Unfortunately, these kinds of researches are not performed sufficiently. This research is going to evaluate impact energy behavior in composite materials such as the glass/epoxy (S-glass, $[0/90]_{2S}$) and the aramid/epoxy (Kevlar-29, woven type, 8 ply) of ankle foot orthosis. The approach methods were as follows. 1) The history of impact load and impact energy due to the various velocities. 2) Relationship between the deflection and damage shape according to the impact velocities. 3) The behavior of absorbed energy and residual strength rate due to the various impact velocities.
In this paper, a study on low-velocity impact response of four different sandwich panels for the hybrid bodyshell and floor structure application of the Korean low floor bus vehicle was done. Square samples of 100mm sides were subjected low-velocity impact loading using an instrumented testing machine at six energy levels. Impact parameters like maximum force, time to maximum force, deflection at maximum force and absorbed energy were evaluated and compared for four different types of sandwich panels. The impact damage size and depth of the permanent indentation were measured by 3-Dimensional Scanner. Failure modes were studied by sectioning the specimens and observed under optical microscope. The impact test results show that sandwich panel with composite laminate facesheet could not observe damage mode of a permanent visible indentation after impact and has a good impact damage resistance in comparison with sandwich panel with metal aluminum facesheet.
This study investigates the durability of car body and the safety of passenger inside car body in the case of the impact contact at passenger and car body. In case of front impact contact, maximum von Mises equivalent stress and principal stress become 3240.7MPa and 1634MPa respectively at the rear part of car body and the neck of dummy. And maximum total deformation occurred with 14.145mm at the hand of dummy. In case of side impact contact, maximum von Mises equivalent stress and principal stress become 7687.9MPa and 1690.7MPa respectively at the front part of car body and the lap of dummy. And maximum total deformation occurred with 16.414 mm at the foot of dummy. In case of rear impact contact, maximum von Mises equivalent stress and principal stress become 2366.6MPa and 1447MPa respectively at the front part of car body and the neck of dummy. And maximum total deformation occurred with 7.548mm at the rear part of car body. As the maximum von-Mises stress at side impact is shown with more than 700MPa as over two times at front or rear impact the danger of car body is increased. The great possibility of damage is shown at neck and hand of dummy with more than total displacement of 10mm.
This paper presents a study of water quality model applications in environmental impact statements which were submitted during recent years in Korea. Most of the applications have reported that the development projects would have significant impacts on the water quality, especially, of streams and rivers. The water quality models, however, were hardly used as an impact prediction tool. Even in the cases where models were used, calibration and verification studies were not performed and thus the predicted results would not be reliable. These poor model applications in environmental impact assessment can be attributable to the fact that there were no available model application guidelines as well as no requirements by the review agency. In addition, the expected waste loads were improperly estimated in most cases, especially in non-point sources, and the predicted parameters were not good enough to understand water quality problems expected from the proposed plans. The effects of mitigation measures were not analyzed in most cases. Again, these can be attributed to no formal guidelines available for impact predictions until now. A brief guideline is described in this paper, including model selection, calibration and verification, impact prediction, and analysis of effects of mitigation measures. The results of this study indicate that the model application should be required to overcome the current improper predictions of environmental impacts and the guidelines should be developed in detail and provided.
In this study, impact force and angular displacement of the pendulum were measured by the load cell and potentiometer. Mechanical behavior of rough rice under impact loading was able to analyze precisely and efficiently, because measured data were accumulated and handled by the automatic data acquisition system making use of microcomputer system. Impact force and angular displacement were measured with a resolutiln of 1/1500 seconds in time. Mechanical behavior such as force and energy at rupture point of Japonica type and Indica type rough rice were measured with this system. After impact loading, the damage of rough rice was examined with the microphotograph and an allowable impact force was measured. The results obtained in this study are summarized as follows. 1. Machanical behavior of rough rice under impact loading was analyzed precisely and efficiently because measured data were accumulated and handled by this data acquisition system. 2. Rupture force and rupture energy of rough rice were appeared to be the lowest value in the range of 16 to 18 % moisture content, and rupture force and rupture energy of Japonica type were higher than those of Indica type in each level of moisture content. 3. From the result of the damage examined after the impact loading, allowable impact force was the lowest in the range of 16 to 18 % moisture content, and the value of the allowable impact force of Japonica type was higher than that of Indica type in each level of moisture content.
The droplet impact behavior is dominated by some parameters such as surface temperature, We number, surface and fluid property. Especially, Leidenfrost effect which prevents the contact between surface and droplet is very powerful phenomenon for determining droplet impact behavior. Due to this effect, the impact regime is divided into contact boiling regime and film boiling regime whether the droplet contact with the surface. Many studies have found that surface micro-structures which processed by surface processing are effective to overcome the Leidenfrost effect. In this study, droplet impact behaviors were compared using ethanol both on flat and laser-ablated Al surface. On the flat surface, impact regime was mainly divided by surface temperature. And there is key dominant parameter for each regime. On the laser-ablated surface, we could see changed impact regime and different impact behavior such as jetting and ejection of tiny droplets despite of same impact conditions.
Generally, fiber-reinforced composites have the highest possibilities of impact damages with external object collisions. Also, resulting in fatigue fracture considering the continued impact load. For the reasons mentioned above, the accurate understanding of interactions between the impact of composites and the fatigue load will be essential to understand the safety level of material structures. Furthermore, the composite materials and structures, due to the geometrical effect, vary the life in connection with the impact-fatigue. Therefore, I have reached the point that a focus of this study will be to evaluate fatigue fracture characteristics by the impacts-fatigue load of fiber-reinforced composites. Thus, in this paper, I have tried to work on impacts-fatigue load causing aspects and impact characteristics through impact-fatigue test on HTV-5Hl Black 9250 material made- structure, along with to evaluate the expected lift of real structures, the FEM analysis was carried out.
In order to synthesis of the materials and modulus for floor impact sound reduction, we investigated effect on dynamic elastic modulus of floor impact sound reduction materials and module made by inorganic porous materials, EVA chips and so on. We find correlation property between dynamic elastic modulus and light-weight impact noise. And we measured the dynamic elastic modulus of materials and module for floor impact sound reduction. And we predicted reduction efficiency on floor Impact Noise of those. The dynamic elastic modulus is reduced by increase of filler contents and filler species. When the materials for floor impact sound reduction is consisted of l5wt% EVA Chip and l5wt% inorganic porous materials, its dynamic elastic material is the lowest. And when the module is consisted of PE (upper side), PS embossing board(lower side) and the materials for floor impact sound reduction(middle), its dynamic elastic material is the lowest.
