  • By examining the experimental results, the critical mean velocity which initiates the movement of riprap is increased with the riprap size in mean diameter, the mean diameter over water depth (d/h), Froude number (Fr), and turbulent shear velocity over critical mean velocity (u*/${\nu}$) which have great correlations among them so these parameters are adopted governing hydraulic stability for riprap. The hydraulic stability equation for riprap is developed by regression analysis. The developed equation is expanded from 0.36~0.73 m/s of experimental range to 0~5.0 m/s for the application in engineering discipline. So many useful relations among those parameters including critical mean velocity are derived by expanding to high Reynolds regions. Mean diameter calculation results by expanding to high Reynolds regions coincide with the calculations of ASCE and USBR at the range of 0~3.0 m/s and the calculation result of ASCE at the range of 3.0~5.0 m/s. The results by developed formulae coincide well with the formulae of ASCE in general and also the results by recently developed existing formulae of hydraulic stability for riprap. Thus, the developed equation has the high applicability in engineering discipline to evaluate the hydraulic stability for riprap.

  • In this study, the effect of the factors of a hydraulic modulator of ASMS was analysed. The modeling of ASMS was presented and the equation of ASMS was derived from the modeling. With this background, GUI analysis tool was developed. After the verification of the reasonability of simulation, the response of a hydraulic modulator is investigated through simulation of modeling. With this simulation, each behavior was predicted with changing the various parameters and determined the influenced factors to apply the designing process.

  • This paper is primarily directed toward analyzing the transient response characteristics in hydraulic pipe lines. The exact solution to the transient response characteristics was obtained by using the complicated transfer function derived by Iberall. The discrepancy with the exact and approximate is small, so the approximate solution is adopted to the theoretical one. An equation was derived which describes the pressure times relationship Hat occurs at the end of volume terminated transmission line following a sudden pressure change at its inputs. As a result, It is found that the density has relationship about the Wave Propagation is very useful in analyzing the transient response characteristics of hydraulic pipe lines. The velocity of Pressure wave Propagation decreases as the density of fluid increased.

  • A cold gas blow-down hydraulic actuation system is widely used in missiles that require an actuation system with a fast response time under a limited space with a short operating time and large loads on the actuators. The system consists of a pneumatic part that supplies the regulated high-pressure gas to a reservoir, and a hydraulic part that supplies pressurized hydraulic oil to the actuators by the pressurized gas in the reservoir. This paper proposes a mathematical model to analyze and simulate the pneumatic part of an actuation system that supplies the operating power to the actuators. The mathematical model is based on the ideal gas equation and also considers the models for heat transfer. The model is applied to the pressure vessel and the gas part of the reservoir, and the model for the pneumatic part is established by connecting the two models for the parts. The model is validated through a comparison of the simulation results with the experimental results. The comparison shows that the suggested model could be useful in the design of the pneumatic part of a cold gas blow-down type hydraulic actuation system.

  • This study presents the estimation of the entrainment velocity of sediment particles from the scour hole. Sediment particles are entrained from the scour hole downstream of hydraulic structures by the turbulent vortices. Mathematical form of the entrainment velocity of sediment particles from the scour hole was obtained using the impulse-momentum equation with given value of the vertical component of turbulent velocity of the line vortex. Also, its probability density distribution was obtained with the results that the probability density distribution of the vertical turbulent velocity followed the normal distribution. Experimental results of the entrainment velocity of sediment particles showed relatively good agreements with theoretical ones.

  • The dynamic material characteristics on some mild steel sheets were observed. The dynamic tests were conducted on the ESH servo-hydraulic test machine. It was observed that the mechanical properties of mild steel are highly sensitive to the value of strain rate. The well known Cowper-Symonds constitutive equation was used to generalize the strain rate sensitivity effect. Modified constitutive equations were suggested to couple the strain hardening to the strain rate sensitivity. The dynamic stress-strain relationships for the mild steel sheets used in the present study were reasonably predicted using these modified constitutive equations.

  • In this paper, the evaluation of diameter, global velocity, global roughness coefficients of the water distribution pipes are examined by using pressure and flowrate measurements in selected points of the network. The selected pipe network parameters are determined through reformulation of the continuity and energy equation. Additional energy equation is considered to analyze the coefficient matrix. The resulting nonlinear equations are solved by using Newton Raphson method. Three computer models with complex pipe system are used to demonstrate these procedures. The computed results of hydraulic parameters show good agreements with KYPIPE2 flow analysis model.

  • The paper demonstrates the tracking performance of a sliding horizon feedback/feedforward preview optimal control when applied to a hydraulic motion simulator which has been built to provide a means of replicating the actual ride dynamics of an automobile seat/human system. The design was developed by solving an ordinary differential equation problem instead of a Ricatti equation. Simulation results indicate that the proposed technique has good performance improvement in phase tracking when compared to the classical design methods. It is also found that the controller can be adjusted more easily for robustness due to more tuning parameters.

  • The prediction of a design-flood hydrograph at a particular site on a river may be based on the derivation of discharge or stage hydrograph at an upstream section, togeater with a method to route this hydrograph along the rest of river. On the other hand, flood routing methods provide a useful tool for the analysis of flooding in all but the smaller catchment, and these methods are largely stored into hydrological method and hydraulic method. Although the Muskingum Method as a hydrological method ignores dynamic effects on the flood wave, Muskingum-Cunge Method based on hydraulic method is possible to improve the method so that it gives a good approximation to the solution of the linear convective-diffusion equation. This is made on the basis of the finite diffeience equation for the Muskingum Method. In the study, the outflows predicted by Muskingum-Cunge Method are campared with the observed outflows of the Pyung Chang River.

  • The governing partial differential equation of flow in porous media is developed on the bases of the continuity equation of fluid for transient flow through a saturated-unsaturated zone, and substitution of Dercy's law. The numerical solution is obtained by the Galerkin finite element method based on the principle of weighted residuals. The analysis is carried out by using the unsteady storm data observed and the functional relationships between the hydraulic conductivities, capillary pressure heads, and volumetric water contents under saturated-unsaturated conditions. As the results the hydraulic conductivities, rates of change of storage and initial moisture conditions are significantly influened on the responses of subsurface flow on a hillslope.
