The purpose of this study is to identify the manufacturing possibility of non-cement mortar using blast furnace slag and alkali accelerator. In this experimental study, the blast furnace slag which is the by-product of the steel industry substitute for cement, and the potassium hydroxide(KOH), calcium hydroxide ($Ca(OH)_2$) and sodium hydroxide(NaOH) as stimulus were added to each specimen. And the analysis on reaction property of non-cement mortar was conducted by measurement such as flexural and compressive strength, XRD, EDS and SEM. From the test results, it can be founded that $SiO_2$ and CaO included in the blast furnace slag are released and make the calcium silicate hydrate like the hydration reaction of the cement. Also, the continued study is need to reduce emission of $CO_2$ because of major content in filed of the building construction.

In this study, blast furnace slag powder was used in concrete to help reduce carbon dioxide emissions and to recycle industrial waste. Blast furnace slag powder is a byproduct of smelting pig iron and is obtained by rapidly cooling molten high-temperature blast furnace slag. The powder has been used as an admixture for cement and concrete because of its high reactivity. Using fine blast furnace slag powders in concrete can reduce hydration heat, suppress temperature increases, improve long-term strength, improve durability by increasing watertightness, and inhibit corrosion of reinforcing bars by limiting chloride ion penetration. However, it has not been used much due to its low compressive strength at an early age. Therefore, this study evaluates the effects of steam curing for increasing the initial strength development of concrete made using slag powder. The relationship between compressive strength, SEM observations, and XRD measurements was also investigated. The concrete made with 30% powder showed the best performance. The steam curing seems to affect the compressive strength by destroying the coating on the powder and by producing hydrates such as ettringite and Calcium-Silicate-Hydrate gel.

In this study, we investigated the influences of potassium fluoride(KF) addition on the surface characteristics of plasma electrolytic oxidation(PEO) coating produced on Al alloy. The PEO of marine grade Al alloy(5083 grade) was conducted in KOH 1g/L solution adding different concentrations of KF(0, 1 and 2 g/L) under a galvanostatic regime. With KF addition, unusual behavior was observed on the voltage-time characteristic curves, which can be characterized by the following process: (i) initial rapid increase in voltage (ii) a short plateau after 1st breakdown (iii) gradual increase in voltage (iv) intermittent fluctuation of voltage after 2nd breakdown. The SEM observation revealed irregular surface morphology with KF addition, as compared with one formed without KF addition, which had a reticulate structure. The XRD analysis detected the formation of aluminium hydroxide fluoride hydrate($H_{4.76}Al_2F_{3.24}O_{3.76}$) on surface grown by PEO process with KF. Particularly, at very early stage of the process (~ 120 s), thin film was formed having nanoporous structure, and F element was confirmed on surface by EDS analysis. The thickness and surface roughness of the coating increased with increasing KF concentration. As a result, KF addition was found to be less beneficial influences on PEO of marine grade Al alloy, and therefore needs further research to improve its capability.

MnPSO-34 and Mn-impregnated SAPO-34 (Mn-SAPO-34) sample were prepared with various manganese contents and studied by electron spin resonance (ESR) and electron spin-echo modulation (ESEM). Electron spin-echo modulation analysis of 0.07mol % Mn(relative to p) in MnAPSO-34 with adsorbed D$_2$O shows two deuteriums at 0.25 nm and two at 0.36 nm from Mn. This suggests that two waters hydrate an MnO4 configuration with a D-O bond orientation for the waters as expect for a negatively charged site at low manganese content (0.07 mol%), the ESR spectra of MnAPSO-34 and MnH-SAPO-34 exhibit the same parameters (g 2.02 and A 87 G), but the spectra obtained from MnAPSO-34 samples are better resolved. TGA of as-synthesized MnAPSO-34 shows that the decomposition temperature in the range 200-$600^{\circ}C$ of the morpholine is 12$^{\circ}C$ higher than that in as-synthesized MnH-SAPO-34. Infrared spectra shows that the position of a band at about 15 cm-1 toward higher energy in MnAPSO-34 versus MnH-SAPO-34. The modulation depth of the two-pulse ESE of MnAPSO-34 with absorbed D$_2$O is deeper than that of MnH-SAPO-34 with absorbed D$_2$O. Three-pulse ESEM of MnAPSO-34 and MnH-SAPO-34 with absorbed deuterium oxide shows that the local environments of manganese in the hydrated samples are different, suggesting that Mn(II) is framework substituted in MnAPSO-34 since it obviously occupies an extra-framework position in MnH-SAPO-34
CO2 injection well sealant is vulnerable to supercritical CO2 (scCO2) exposure. To develop an alternative to the conventional sealant system (class G cement/class F fly ash), the performance of slag cement (SPC) systems containing class F fly ash (FFA) or class C fly ash (CFA) was evaluated and compared with the conventional sealant under scCO2 conditions. All sealant systems showed an immediate increase in compressive strength upon scCO2 exposure and, at 37.6 MPa, SPC/CFA showed the highest compressive strength after 14 days, which was much higher than the 29.8 MPa of the conventional sealant system. Substantial decreases in porosity were observed in all sealant systems, which were partly responsible for the increase in strength. Carbonation reactions led to pH decreases in the tested sealants from 12.5 to 10~11.6. In particular, the greatest decrease in pH in slag cement/class C fly ash probably supported relatively sustainable alkali activation reactions and the integrity of cement hydrates in this system. XRD revealed the presence of CaCO3 and a decrease in the content of cement hydrates in the tested sealants upon scCO2 exposure. TGA demonstrated a greater increase of CaCO3 and calcium-silicate-hydrate phases in SPC/CFA than in the conventional sealant upon scCO2 exposure.
Synthesis of RGO (reduced graphene oxide)-CdS composite material was performed through CBD (chemical bath deposition) method in which graphene oxide served as the support and Cadmium Sulfate Hydrate as the starting material. Graphene-based semiconductor photocatalysts have attracted extensive attention due to their usefulness for environmental and energy applications. The band gap (2.4 eV) of CdS corresponds well with the spectrum of sunlight because the crystalline phase, size, morphology, specic surface area and defects, etc., of CdS can affect its photocatalytic activity. The specific surface structure (morphology) of the photocatalyst can be effective for the suppression of recombination between photogenerated electrons and holes. Graphene (GN) has unique properties such as a high value of Young's modulus, large theoretical specific surface area, excellent thermal conductivity, high mobility of charge carriers, and good optical transmittance. These excellent properties make GN an ideal building block in nanocomposites. It can act as an excellent electron-acceptor/transport material. Therefore, the morphology, structural characterization and crystal structure were observed using various analytical tools, such as X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and Raman spectroscopy. From this analysis, it is shown that CdS particles were well dispersed uniformly in the RGO sheet. Furthermore, the photocatalytic property of the resulting RGO-CdS composite is also discussed in relation to environmental applications such as the photocatalytic degradation of pollutants. It was found that the prepared RGO-CdS nanocomposites exhibited enhanced photocatalytic activity as compared with that of CdS nanoparticles. Therefore, better efficiency of photodegradation was found for water purification applications using RGO-CdS composite.
Three major commercially available organic chemical admixtures are modified lignosulfonates (LS), sulfonated naphthalene-formaldehyde resins (SNF) and sulfonated melamine-formaldehyde (SMF). In this study, various sulfonated melamine-formaldehyde (SMF) superplasticizers were synthesized via four synthetic steps including hydroxymethylation (Step 1), sulfonation (Step 2), polymerization (Step 3) and neutralization and stabilization (Step 4). In this synthesis, mole ratio of melamine to formaline and the amount of acid catalyst used were varied. The obtained SMF superplasticizers were applied to cement paste and mortar and their physical properties including workability, slump loss, compressive strength were investigated. Also their hydrate shapes were investigated by examining SEM images of the cured paste. It was found that the fluidity properties of cement were significantly influenced by the structure of SMF condensates.

ZnO has attracted much attention such as photocatalysts, sensors, piezoelectricity and etc. At present, an economical and rapid synthesis route based on the efficient microwave polyol process is used to synthesized metal-doped ZnO nanoclusters. Diethylene glycol has a property of high polarizability, and is an excellent microwave absorbing agent, thus leading to a high heating rate and a significantly shorter reaction time. In this study, metal-doped ZnO nanoclusters are obtained with different seed volumes, when zinc acetate dihydrate is used as a precursor, and metal acetate hydrate is used as a doped-metal and diethylene glycol is used as a solvent. The obtained metal-doped ZnO nanoclusters were characterized by FE-SEM, XRD, Raman and PSA.

This study investigated the use of a hydroxyl-radicals-generated microbubble/catalyst (MB/Cat) system for removing organic pollutants, nitrogen, and phosphorous from liquid fertilizer produced by livestock wastewater treatment. Use of the MB/Cat system aims to improve the quality of liquid fertilizer by removing pollutants originally found in the wastewater. In addition, a reduction effect has been reported for antibiotics classified as representative non-biodegradable matter. Samples of liquid fertilizer produced by an aerobic biological reactor for swine wastewater treatment were first analyzed for initial concentrations of pollutants and antibiotics. When the MB/Cat system was applied to the liquid fertilizer, TCOD, TOC, $BOD_5$, and $NH_3-N$, and $PO_4-P$ removal efficiencies were found to be approximately 52%, 51%, 30%, 21%, and 66%, respectively. Additionally, Amoxicillin hydrate was removed by 10%, and Chlortetracycline HCl and Florfenicol were not present at detectable levels These findings confirm that the MB/Cat system can be used with livestock wastewater treatment to improve liquid fertilizer quality and to process wastewater that is safe for agricultural re-use.
In presence of a polymer, the crystallization of low MW organic materials can be stopped at an intermediary step, where mesocrystals can be identified. A mesocrystal is defined as a superstructure of nanoparticles having polymer-adsorbed crystal faces on the scale of several hundred nanometers to micrometers. This study examined the effects of water soluble polymers and relevant parameters on the formation of guanosine-5'-monophosphate mesocrystals. It was observed in OM and SEM that GMP obtained in a polymer solution had a unique particle morphology different from the typical one of GMP. XRD analysis indicated that the polymer-directed crystallized GMP had a different polymorph of GMP. This result shows that the crystal structure of GMP can be changed by polymers. It was observed in TGA analysis that the polymer-directed crystallized GMP had a different water content, indicating a different type of hydrate.
