Phased-array antennas comprise a demanding antenna design methodology for commercial wireless communication systems or military radar systems. In addition to these two important applications, the phased-array antennas can be used in beamforming for wireless charging. In this study, a four-way analog beamforming front-end module (FEM) for a hybrid beamforming system is developed for 2.4 GHz operation. In a hybrid beamforming scheme, an analog beamforming FEM in which the phase and amplitude of RF signal can be adjusted between the RF chain and phased-array antenna is required. With the beamforming and beam steering capability of the phased-array antennas, wireless RF power can be transmitted with high directivity to a designated receiver for wireless charging. The four-way analog beamforming FEM has a 32 dB gain dynamic range and a phase shifting range greater than 360°. The maximum output RF power of the four-way analog beamforming FEM is 40 dBm (=10 W) when combined the four individual RF paths are combined.
The 42V Mild Hybrid System has been released into market by Toyota for the first time in the world in 2001. The set-up employs an inverter unit to control the motor/generator (MG) electronically. The driving system called such as Toyota Mild Hybrid System (TMHS) has additional new functions to conventional internal combustion engines. When stopping vehicle, the engine stops promptly. When starting vehicle, by releasing the brake pedal MG starts the vehicle at the same time (EV-driving mode). When stepping on the accelerator pedal, or after a given period of time the engine firing occurs and the engine-driving mode starts. When running by motor, the power is supplied to the motor from 36V battery through the inverter. High outputs and instant responses are required for Inverter. At the same time, the compact volume is required to fit into the limited space of the engine room. The compact size and high output are also required to Power Capacitor used for this inverter. The power capacitors has been newly developed, shaped in "flat" type, suitably for the inverter. The points of developments on inverter and power capacitor are described in this paper.his paper.

This paper presents a modeling and a controller design for a hybrid wind turbine generator, especially with an operating mode of battery energy-storage system and a dumpload that contribute to the frequency control of the system while diesel-synchronous unit is not in operation. The proposed control scheme is based on a robust tracking controller, which takes an account of system uncertainties due to the wind flow and load variations. In order to provide robustness for system uncertainties, the range of operation is partitioned into three operating conditions as sub-models in the controller design. In the simulation study, the proposed robust tracking controller (RTC) is compared with the conventional proportional-integral (PI) controller. Simulation results show that the effectiveness of the RTC against disturbances caused by wind speed and load variation. Thus, better quality of the hybrid wind power system is achieved.
Penetration of renewable energy sources makes the modern interconnected power systems to have more intelligence and flexibility in the control. Hence, it is essential to maintain the system frequency and tie-line power exchange at nominal values using Load Frequency Control (LFC) for efficient, economic and reliable operation of power systems. In this paper, intelligent tuning of the Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controller for LFC in an interconnected power system is considered as a main objective. The chosen problem is formulated as an optimization problem and the optimal gain parameters of PID controllers are computed with three innovative swarm intelligent algorithms named Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Bacterial Foraging Optimization Algorithm (BFOA) and hybrid Bacterial Foraging Particle Swarm Optimization (BFPSO) and a comparative study is made between them. A new objective function designed with necessary time domain specifications using weighted sum approach is also offered in this report and compared with conventional objective functions. All the simulation results clearly reveal that, the hybrid BFPSO tuned PID controller with proposed objective function has better control performances over other optimization methodologies.

This paper presents a new cascaded asymmetrical single phase multilevel converter with a lower number of power semiconductor switches and isolated DC sources. Therefore, the number of power electronic devices, converter losses, size, and cost are reduced. The proposed multilevel converter topology consists of two H-bridges connected in cascaded configuration. One H-bridge operates at a high frequency (high frequency inverter) and is capable of developing a two level output while the other H-bridge operates at the fundamental frequency (low frequency inverter) and is capable of developing a multilevel output. The addition of each power electronic switch to the low frequency inverter increases the number of levels by four. This paper also introduces a hybrid switching algorithm which uses very simple arithmetic and logical operations. The simplified hybrid switching algorithm is generalized for any number of levels. The proposed simplified switching algorithm is developed using a TMS320F2812 DSP board. The operation and performance of the proposed multilevel converter are verified by simulations using MATLAB/SIMULINK and experimental results.
This paper presents a novel analysis, design, and implementation of a battery charging three-phase high frequency semi-controlled power converter feasible for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. The main advantages of the proposed topology include high efficiency; due to lower power losses and reduced number of switching elements, high output power density realization, and reduced passive component ratings proportionally to the frequency. Additional advantages also include grid economic utilization by insuring unity power factor operation under different possible conditions and robustness since short-circuit through a leg is not possible. A high but acceptable total harmonic distortion of the generator currents is introduced in the proposed topology which can be viewed as a minor disadvantage when compared to traditional boost rectifiers. A hysteresis control algorithm is proposed to achieve lower current harmonic distortion for the rectifier operation. The rectifier topology concept, the principle of operation, and control scheme are presented. Additionally, a dc-dc converter is also employed in the rectifier-battery connection. Test results on 50-kHz power converter system are presented and discussed to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed topology for PHEV applications.

A series-hybrid power system was designed for quad-tilt prop UAV and the characteristics was analysed. The power system consists of a 4.5kW rotary engine-generator and a li-battery as power sources, a power controller manages the overall power and supplies to the vehicle system. The output power of the engine is to be matched with the generator performance considering mechanical driving loss and generating efficiency, and also loss for charging and discharging of the battery energy. It is applied that the constant speed operation of the engine-generator to minimize overall fuel consumption by integrating the generating power and the battery energy, consequentially the battery capacity and characteristics could be important factors for improvement of the system efficiency.

Introducing renewable energy sources, such as wind and photovoltaic arrays, in microgrids that supply remote regions with electricity represents a significant leap in electricity generation. Combining photovoltaic panels and diesel engines is one of the most common ways to supply electricity to rural communities. Such hybrid systems can reduce the cost of electricity generation in these remote power systems because they use free energy to balance the power generated by diesel engines. However, the combination of renewable energy sources and diesel engines tends to complicate the sizing and control of the entire system due to the intermittent nature of renewable energy sources. This study sought to investigate this issue in depth. It proposes a robust hybrid controller that can be used to facilitate optimum power sharing between a PV power source and diesel generators based on the dynamics of the available PV energy at any given time. The study also describes a hybrid PV-diesel power plant's essential functional parts that produce electricity for a microgrid using a renewable energy source. Power control needs to be adjusted to reduce the cost of power generation.
In this paper, we simulated the performance of the Cheaju island and developed the hybrid power system based on a least component size design option. This paper performed simulation of economic relation of battery and diesel generation in hybrid power system component.
Hybrid RMU is a kind of power circuit breaker and protects electric devices from over-current. In this paper we built a dynamic model of RMU driving mechanism using ADAMS and performed a optimal design of several design parameters. Finally we developed a prototype of RMU driving mechanism through results of analysis and confirmed it to satisfy design requisitions.
