In this paper, a new type of passive energy dissipating system similar to added damping and stiffness (ADAS) and triangular added damping and stiffness (TADAS) is proposed and implemented in the analytical model of a building with hybrid structural system in the structure's base which we call it; Telescopic column. The behavior and performance of a high rise R.C. structure equipped with this system is investigated and compared with conventional base isolation systems such as rubber isolator bearings and friction pendulum bearings. For this purpose a series of ground acceleration records of the San Fernando, Long Beach and Imperial Valley earthquakes are used as the disturbing ground motions in a series of numerical simulations. The nonlinear numerical modeling which includes both material and geometric nonlinearities were carried out by using SAP2000 program. Results show suitable behavior of structures equipped with telescopic columns in controlling the upper stories drifts and accelerations.
Dynamic stability of a flying structure undertaking constnat and pulsating thrust force is investigated in this paper. The equations of motion of the structure, which is idealized as a free-free beam, are derived by using the hybrid variable method and the assumed mode method. The structural system includes a directional control unit to obtain the directional stability. Unstable regions due to periodically pulsating thrust forces are obtained by using the Floquet's theory. Stability diagrams are presented to illustrate the influence of the constant force, the location of gimbal, and the frequency of pulsating force. The validity of the diagrams are confirmed by direct numerical simulations of the dynamic system.

This paper develops the theory for a novel fault-tolerant, permanent magnet biased, 6-active-pole, homopolar magnetic bearing. The Lagrange Multiplier optimization with equality constraints is utilized to calculate the optimal distribution matrices for the failed bearing. some numerical examples of distribution matrices are provided to illustrate the new theory. Simulations show that very much the same dynamic responses (orbits or displacements) are maintained throughout failure events (up to any combination of 3 coils failed for the 6 pole magnetic bearing) while currents and fluxes change significantly. The overall load capacity of the bearing actuator is reduced as coils fail. The same magnetic forces are then preserved up to the load capacity of the failed bearing.
Motivated by a simpler and more compact hybrid active tuned mass damper (ATMD) system with wide frequency spacing (i.e., high robustness) but not reducing the effectiveness using the least number of ATMD units, the active tuned tandem mass dampers (ATTMD) have been proposed to attenuate undesirable oscillations of structures under the ground acceleration. Likewise, it is expected that the frequency spacing of the ATTMD is comparable to that of the active multiple tuned mass dampers (AMTMD) or the multiple tuned mass dampers (MTMD). In accordance with the mode generalised system in the specific vibration mode being controlled (simply referred herein to as the structure), the closed-form expression of the dimensionless displacement variances has been derived for the structure with the attached ATTMD. The criterion for the optimum searching may then be determined as minimization of the dimensionless displacement variances. Employing the gradient-based optimization technique, the effects of varying key parameters on the performance of the ATTMD have been scrutinized in order to probe into its superiority. Meanwhile, for the purpose of a systematic comparison, the optimum results of two active tuned mass dampers (two ATMDs), two tuned mass dampers (two TMDs) without the linking damper, and the TTMD are included into consideration. Subsequent to work in the frequency domain, a real-time Simulink implementation of dynamic analysis of the structure with the ATTMD under earthquakes is carried out to verify the findings of effectiveness and stroke in the frequency domain. Results clearly show that the findings in the time domain support the ones in the frequency domain. The whole work demonstrates that ATTMD outperforms two ATMDs, two TMDs, and TTMD. Thereinto, a wide frequency spacing feature of the ATTMD is its highlight, thus deeming it a high robustness control device. Furthermore, the ATTMD system only needs the linking dashpot, thus embodying its simplicity.
Seismic isolation and vibration control techniques have been developed and put into practical use by challenging researchers and engineers worldwide since the latter half of the 20th century, and after more than 40 years, they are now used in thousands of buildings, private residences, highways in many seismic areas in the world. Seismic isolation and vibration control structures can keep the structures undamaged even in a major earthquake and realize continuous occupancy. This performance has come to be recognized not only by engineers but also by ordinary people, becoming indispensable for the formation of a resilient society. However, the dynamic characteristics of seismically isolated bearings, the key elements, are highly dependent on the size effect and rate-of-loading, especially under extreme loading conditions. Therefore, confirming the actual properties and performance of these bearings with full-scale specimens under prescribed dynamic loading protocols is essential. The number of testing facilities with such capacity is still limited and even though the existing labs in the US, China, Taiwan, Italy, etc. are conducting these tests, their dynamic loading test setups are subjected to friction generated by the large vertical loads and inertial force of the heavy table which affect the accuracy of measured forces. To solve this problem, the authors have proposed a direct reaction force measuring system that can eliminate the effects of friction and inertia forces, and a seismic isolation testing facility with the proposed system (E-isolation) will be completed on March 2023 in Japan. This test facility is designed to conduct not only dynamic loading tests of seismic isolation bearings and dampers but also to perform hybrid simulations of seismically isolated structures. In this paper, design details and the realization of this system into an actual dynamic testing facility are presented and the outcomes are discussed.

2 phase 8 pole HB-type(flat-type) Linear Pulse Motor can be used as the high precision position actuator because of its many advantages (simple control circuit, high stiffness characteristics, etc). Also, using the microstep drive, its noise and vibration can be reduced considerably and positional resolution may be increased further. But, $20^{\circ}$tapered tooth shape to reduce the normal force have an much effect on the static thrust force characteristics. And, because of hybrid-type LPM, interaction between the permanent magnet and the excitation current have an effect on the various characteristics of LPM. Hence, in this paper, the effect of tooth shape on static thrust force characteristics was analyzed using the air gap permeance by finite element method. For analyzing the effect of unbalance between the m.m.f of permanent magnet and the m.m.f of excitation current, unbalanced m.m.f coefficient $\sigma$ were introduced with the permenace matrix and switching matrix.
The aeroservoelastic analysis that deals with the interactions of the inertial, elastic, and aerodynamic forces and the influence of the control system have been performed. MSC Nastran was used for the free vibration analysis of the structure model as the pre-analysis. ZAERO was used to calculate the unsteady aerodynamic forces. The unsteady aerodynamic forces were verified by comparing with Doublet Hybrid Method. Karpel's Minimum-State Approximation method was used for approximation of the aerodynamic forces to the Laplace domain in the frequency domain. The aeroservoelastic state-space equation was obtained by combining the aeroelastic equation with the actuator dynamics. The analysis of aeroservoelastic stability concerning the elevator input of the high aspect ratio model was performed. The root-locus method and time-integration method were used for the analysis of aeroservoelastic in frequency and time domain.

Timely fault identification is important for safe and reliable operation of the electric valve system. Many research works have utilized different data-driven approach for fault diagnosis in complex systems. However, they do not consider specific characteristics of critical control components such as electric valves. This work presents an integrated shallow-deep fault diagnostic model, developed based on signals extracted from DN50 electric valve. First, the local optimal issue of particle swarm optimization algorithm is solved by optimizing the weight search capability, the particle speed, and position update strategy. Then, to develop a shallow diagnostic model, the modified particle swarm algorithm is combined with support vector machine to form a hybrid improved particle swarm-support vector machine (IPs-SVM). To decouple the influence of the background noise, the wavelet packet transform method is used to reconstruct the vibration signal. Thereafter, the IPs-SVM is used to classify phase imbalance and damaged valve faults, and the performance was evaluated against other models developed using the conventional SVM and particle swarm optimized SVM. Secondly, three different deep belief network (DBN) models are developed, using different acoustic signal structures: raw signal, wavelet transformed signal and time-series (sequential) signal. The models are developed to estimate internal leakage sizes in the electric valve. The predictive performance of the DBN and the evaluation results of the proposed IPs-SVM are also presented in this paper.

The study presents a new hybrid data-driven method by combining radial basis functions neural networks (RBF-NN) with the Jaya algorithm (JA) to provide effective structural health monitoring of arch dams. The novelty of this approach lies in that only one user-defined parameter is required and thus can increase its effectiveness and efficiency, as compared to other machine learning techniques that often require processing a large amount of training and testing model parameters and hyper-parameters, with high time-consuming. This approach seeks rapid damage detection in arch dams under dynamic conditions, to prevent potential disasters, by utilizing the RBF-NNN to seamlessly integrate the dynamic elastic modulus (DEM) and modal parameters (such as natural frequency and mode shape) as damage indicators. To determine the dynamic characteristics of the arch dam, the JA sequentially optimizes an objective function rooted in vibration-based data sets. Two case studies of hyperbolic concrete arch dams were carefully designed using finite element simulation to demonstrate the effectiveness of the RBF-NN model, in conjunction with the Jaya algorithm. The testing results demonstrated that the proposed methods could exhibit significant computational time-savings, while effectively detecting damage in arch dam structures with complex nonlinearities. Furthermore, despite training data contaminated with a high level of noise, the RBF-NN and JA fusion remained the robustness, with high accuracy.

Structural bracing concept equipped with a new and efficient friction based energy dissipation device is referred to Friction SliP Brace (FSB) where the behavior of the brace components is elastic until the axial resistant force in the brace exceeds the friction force developed at the frictional interface of the device. In this study, the FSB concept is modified and new type of hybrid energy dissipation device, the Active Friction SliP Braces (AFSB), is described. The FSB is by far improved in the AFSB by inclusion of an active clamping mechanism on the friction interface. The clamping action regulated by the developed algorithm is altered during the response of the building. The results indicate that the action of dissipating vibrational energy in the AFSB impacts on the response at later cycles by keeping the drift amplitudes at much lower levels, revealing overshooting problem due to its early slippage. Providing predetermined constant incremental strengths to the building by AFSB medium improves response by reducing drift amplitudes and base shear under small and medium amplitude ground accelerations.
