  • This study focuses on investigating morphological characteristics and variations level in native zoysiagrasses from costal regions and islands in South Korea. In addition, this were collected to conserve germplasm for the breeding of zoysiagrass. One hundred fifty-nine of native zoysiagrasses were collected from 16 different cities and districts. There were morphological evaluations, including plant height, leaf width, leaf length, leaf angle, seed length(SL), seed width(SW), SL/SW ratio and number of seed per spike in native zoysiagrasses. Type of Z. japonica, Z. sinica, Z. macrostachya and Z. matrella showed significant variations in plant height, leaf length, leaf angle and number of seed per spike depending on where they were collected from. On the other hand, little variation were found in leaf width, seed length, seed width and SL/SW ratio. We have discovered a variety of variations among the investigated traits in hybrid zoysiagrass. These results can be used as basic information for development of zoysiagrass breeding.

  • In this paper, we propose tree-based hybrid query tree architecture utilizing time slot. 4-Bit Pattern Slot Allocation(4-SL) has a 8-ary tree structure and when tag ID responses according to query of the reader, it applies a digital coding method, the Manchester code, in order to extract the location and the number of collided bits. Also, this algorithm can recognize multiple Tags by single query using 4 fixed time slots. The architecture allows the reader to identify 8 tags at the same time by responding 4 time slots utilizing the first bit($[prefix+1]^{th}$, F ${\in}$ {'0' or '1'}) and bit pattern from second ~ third bits($[prefix+2]^{th}{\sim}[prefix+3]^{th}$, $B_2{\in}$ {"00" or "11"}, $B_1{\in}$ {"01" or "10"}) in tag ID. we analyze worst case of the number of query nodes(prefix) in algorithm to extract delay time for recognizing multiple tags. The identification delay time of the proposed algorithm was based on the number of query-responses and query bits, and was calculated by each algorithm.

  • Lithium rechargeable batteries have been widely used as key power sources for portable devices for the last couple of decades. Their high energy density and power have allowed the proliferation of ever more complex portable devices such as cellular phones, laptops and PDA's. For larger scale applications, such as batteries in plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) or power tools, higher standards of the battery, especially in term of the rate (power) capability and energy density, are required. In PHEV, the materials in the rechargeable battery must be able to charge and discharge (power capability) with sufficient speed to take advantage of regenerative braking and give the desirable power to accelerate the car. The driving mileage of the electric car is simply a function of the energy density of the batteries. Since the successful launch of recent Ni-MH (Nickel Metal Hydride)-based HEVs (Hybrid Electric Vehicles) in the market, there has been intense demand for the high power-capable Li battery with higher energy density and reduced cost to make HEV vehicles more efficient and reduce emissions. However, current Li rechargeable battery technology has to improve significantly to meet the requirements for HEV applications not to mention PHEV. In an effort to design and develop an advanced electrode material with high power and energy for Li rechargeable batteries, we approached to this in two different length scales - Atomic and Nano engineering of materials. In the atomic design of electrode materials, we have combined theoretical investigation using ab initio calculations with experimental realization. Based on fundamental understanding on Li diffusion, polaronic conduction, operating potential, electronic structure and atomic bonding nature of electrode materials by theoretical calculations, we could identify and define the problems of existing electrode materials, suggest possible strategy and experimentally improve the electrochemical property. This approach often leads to a design of completely new compounds with new crystal structures. In this seminar, I will talk about two examples of electrode material study under this approach; $LiNi_{0.5}Mn_{0.5}O_2$ based layered materials and olivine based multi-component systems. In the other scale of approach; nano engineering; the morphology of electrode materials are controlled in nano scales to explore new electrochemical properties arising from the limited length scales and nano scale electrode architecture. Power, energy and cycle stability are demonstrated to be sensitively affected by electrode architecture in nano scales. This part of story will be only given summarized in the talk.

  • Recently, the great number of mobile devices causes excessive data/control traffic problems in the centralized LTE/EPC network and such dramatically increased traffic is emerging as a critical issue. In the Centralized Mobility Management (CMM) based LTE/EPC network, the Packet Data Network Gateway (P-GW) plays the centralized mobility anchor role and it accommodates most of data traffic. To solve this problem, the IETF has proposed the Distributed Mobility Management (DMM) scheme, but it has only focused on the data traffic load balancing and could not solve the control traffic overload problem. In this paper, therefore, we propose a new SDN based hybrid CMM/DMM Mobility Management (C-DMM) architecture based on Packet Network Edge Gateway (P-EGW), and introduce a selection scheme between CMM and DMM according to a device's mobility and the number of PDN connections. In order to prove the efficiency of the proposed architecture and scheme, we compare the data traffic processing load and the control traffic processing load over each scheme by emulating them in the ONOS controller and the Mininet environment.

  • Energy harvesting is an increasingly attractive source of power for cellular networks, and can be a promising solution for green networks. In this paper, we consider a cellular network with power beacons powering multiple mobile terminals with microwave power transfer in energy beamforming. In this network, the power beacons are powered by grid and renewable energy jointly. We adopt a dual-level control architecture, in which controllers collect information for a core controller, and the core controller has a real-time global view of the network. By implementing the water filling optimized power allocation strategy, the core controller optimizes the energy allocation among mobile terminals within the same cluster. In the proposed green energy cooperation paradigm, power beacons dynamically share their renewable energy by locally injecting/drawing renewable energy into/from other power beacons via the core controller. Then, we propose a new water filling optimized green energy cooperation management strategy, which jointly exploits water filling optimized power allocation strategy and green energy cooperation in cellular networks. Finally, we validate our works by simulations and show that the proposed water filling optimized green energy cooperation management strategy can achieve about 10% gains of MT's average rate and about 20% reduction of on-grid energy consumption.

  • In this study, direct tension test for hybrid steel fiber reinforced ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) containing two different steel fibers with a length of 16 and 19 mm was performed to investigate the fracture behavior of UHPC. Test results showed that crack strength and tensile strength, and fracture energy increased with increasing the fiber volume ratio. Based on the test results, the peak cohesive stress at the crack tip, tensile strength, and fracture energy depending on the fiber volume ratio were proposed. The proposed tensile strength of UHPC was suggested as a function of the fiber volume ratio and compressive strength. The peak cohesive stress at the crack tip and fracture energy were also proposed as a function of the tensile strength. The predicted values were relatively agree well with the test results. Thus, the proposed equations is expected to be applicable to UHPC with a compressive strength of 140~170 MPa and a fiber volume ratio of less than 2%.

  • Routers should perform fast IP address lookup for Internet to provide high-speed service. In this paper, we present a hybrid parallel IP address lookup structure composed of four-stage pipeline. It achieves parallelism at low cost by using multiple SRAMs in stage 2 and partitioned TCAMs in stage 3, and improves the performance through pipelining. The smart distributor in stage 1 does not transfer any IP address identical to previous one toward the next stage, but only uses the result of the previous lookup. So it improves throughput of lookup by caching effects, and decreases the access conflict to TCAM bank in stage 3 as well. In the last stage, the reorder buffer rearranges the completed IP addresses according to the input order. We evaluate the performance of our parallel pipelined IP lookup structure comparing with previous hybrid structure, using the real routing table and traffic distributions generated by Zipf's law.

  • Reported herein is the architecture for a nonvolatile n-type memory paper field-effect transistor. The device was built via the hybrid integration of natural cellulose fibers (pine and eucalyptus fibers embedded in resin with ionic additives), which act simultaneously as substrate and gate dielectric, using passive and active semiconductors, respectively, as well as amorphous indium zinc and gallium indium zinc oxides for the gate electrode and channel layer, respectively. This was complemented by the use of continuous patterned metal layers as source/drain electrodes.

  • The intelligent agriculture monitoring is based on the perception and analysis of environmental data, which enables the monitoring of the production environment and the control of environmental regulation equipment. As the scale of the application continues to expand, a large amount of data will be generated from the perception layer and uploaded to the cloud service, which will bring challenges of insufficient bandwidth and processing capacity. A fog-based offline and real-time hybrid data analysis architecture was proposed in this paper, which combines offline and real-time analysis to enable real-time data processing on resource-constrained IoT devices. Furthermore, we propose a data process-ing algorithm based on the incremental principal component analysis, which can achieve data dimensionality reduction and update of principal components. We also introduce the concept of Squared Prediction Error (SPE) value and realize the abnormal detection of data through the combination of SPE value and data fusion algorithm. To ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of the algorithm, we design a regular-SPE hybrid model update strategy, which enables the principal component to be updated on demand when data anomalies are found. In addition, this strategy can significantly reduce resource consumption growth due to the data analysis architectures. Practical datasets-based simulations have confirmed that the proposed algorithm can perform data fusion and exception processing in real-time on resource-constrained devices; Our model update strategy can reduce the overall system resource consumption while ensuring the accuracy of the algorithm.
