Botanical Characteristics, Fresh Yield and Table Qualities of CNU Waxy Corn Hybrids

  • A total of CNU 28 hybrids were developed at the CNU Corn Breeding Lab. were evaluated to identify new cultivars in botanical characteristics, fresh yield per 10a and taste qualities. Most of these hybrids were stable in environmental stresses such as lodging, disease and insects. Stem height ranged from 115.0 to 239.3 cm, and ear height ranged from 30.7 to 107.0 cm. The ear height to stem height ratio was showed low than 50% of standard as a stable plant type to lodging. The range of ear length was 14.2 cm to 23.0 cm. Especially, CNU 13H-73 was very longest ear as a 23 cm. The fresh yield per 10a was high in purple of CNU13H-79 hybrid than control hybrid Miheuckchal, and CNU13H-73 in white hybrid was similar Yeonnong check hybrid. The 100-kernel weights in CNU13H-3 and CNU13H-9 hybrids were higher than that of the control hybrid. CNU13H-98 among hybrids had a 100-kernel weight of 20.32 g, which was heavier than that of the control hybrid Daehackchal Gold 1. The average pericarp thickness was $41.4{\mu}m$, CNU13H-46 among hybrids had a very thin pericarp as a $35.5{\mu}m$. The mean sugar content of the used hybrids was 14.95 brix%; CNU13H-73 and CNU13H-55 had higher than Mibak2 as a control hybrid.

XVIII. 찰옥수수연구 시설하우스에서 2기작 찰옥수수 교잡종의 주요 생육특성 비교 (XVIII. Study on Waxy Corn Characteristics of corn hybrids on second cropping of using green house)

  • The major characteristics of the developed corn hybrids were compared at each different planting time; 1st time(April 28) and 2nd time(August 20), respectively. Among traits surveyed, stem height showed highly at 1st time than 2nd, while ear height, stem diameter and ear length were similar at two times. Sugar content of the used hybrids showed highly at 2nd planting time than 1st. Pericarp thickness was also high at 2nd planting time. Especially, among hybrids CNU99 was the highest in stem height and ear length, CNU11 and CNU56 were high in sugar content, and CNU51 and CNU124 were thiner than other hybrids in pericarp thickness. Accordingly, these hybrids will be planted and recognized in 2nd yield trial for superior corn hybrid selection.

  • 본 실험은 신품종 대학찰 골드 1호에 대한 파종 시기별 생육 및 이삭 특성에 대한 연구 결과 주요 특성은 다음과 같다. 1. 공시종에 대한 간장은 모든 파종 시기에서 대학찰 골드1호가 찰옥 1호보다 컷으나 찰옥 1호의 개체간에는 생육 차이가 큰 변이를 보였다. 2. 공시종의 평균 개화기는 대조구인 찰옥 1호가 7일 정도 빨랐으나 개체간 차이가 큰 반면에 대학찰 골드 1호의 개화기는 균일하였다. 두 품종 모두 파종시기가 늦어질수록 개화 소요일수가 빨라지는 경향이었다. 3. 공시종에 대한 간장과 착수고의 비율은 파종시기가 빠를수록 두 품종 모두 낮게 나타나 도복 경감 효과가 클 것으로 나타났다. 4. 공시종에 대한 이삭길이 및 착립 상태를 비교한 결과 대학찰 골드 1호를 4월 말에서 5월 초에 파종한 것이 다른 시기에 파종한 것보다 생육 및 이삭 특성이 우수하였다.

버어리종, 황색종, 양건종, 담배의 유전분석에 관한 연구 I. $F_1$의 잡종강세, 상관 및 조합능력 (STUDIES ON THE GENETIC ANALYSIS AMONG BURLEY, FLUE-CURED AND SUN-CURED TYPE TOBACCO 1. HETEROSIS, CORRELATION AND COMBINING ABILITY OF $F_1$ HYBRID)

  • The present studies were carried out to obtain some basic informations of the breeding of tobacco varieties. Genetically divergent 8 varieties, 3 flue-cured, 2 burley and 3 sun-cured tobaccos, were used in half diallel cross. In order to analyze the heterosis, combining abilities, modes of inheritance and correlations for some agronomic and chemical characters, 8 parents and 28 $F_1$ were tested. The results obtained were summarized as follows: The percentages of heterosis for stem diameter, internode length and total sugar content in $F_1$ hybrid were 3.6%, 3.1% and 10.6%, whereas these for days to flower, total alkaloids and leaves per plant were -6.3%, -6.9% and -5.0%, respectively. Yield had significant positive genotypic correlations with plant height, days to flower and leaf length, but negative with internode length and total sugar content. It also had significant prositive phenotypic correlations with plant height, days to flower, leaves per plant, leaf length, leaf width and leaf shape index (Leaf length/leaf width). General (GCA) and specific combining abilities (SCA) for all characters of $F_1$ hybrid were significant. The effects of GCA were positive on yield, plant height, stem diameter, leaves per plant and days to flower of Burley 21. And those were positive on yield, leaf shape index and plant height, but negative on leaves per plant and total nitrogen of Hicks. The effects of SCA for yield and leaves per plant were greater than those of others on the combinations of Coker 139 and Burley type, respectively.

Optimum design of cantilever retaining walls under seismic loads using a hybrid TLBO algorithm

  • The main purpose of this study is to investigate the performance of the proposed hybrid teaching-learning based optimization algorithm on the optimum design of reinforced concrete (RC) cantilever retaining walls. For this purpose, three different design examples are optimized with 100 independent runs considering continuous and discrete variables. In order to determine the algorithm performance, the optimization results were compared with the outcomes of the nine powerful meta-heuristic algorithms applied to this problem, previously: the big bang-big crunch (BB-BC), the biogeography based optimization (BBO), the flower pollination (FPA), the grey wolf optimization (GWO), the harmony search (HS), the particle swarm optimization (PSO), the teaching-learning based optimization (TLBO), the jaya (JA), and Rao-3 algorithms. Moreover, Rao-1 and Rao-2 algorithms are applied to this design problem for the first time. The objective function is defined as minimizing the total material and labor costs including concrete, steel, and formwork per unit length of the cantilever retaining walls subjected to the requirements of the American Concrete Institute (ACI 318-05). Furthermore, the effects of peak ground acceleration value on minimum total cost is investigated using various stem height, surcharge loads, and backfill slope angle. Finally, the most robust results were obtained by HTLBO with 50 populations. Consequently the optimization results show that, depending on the increase in PGA value, the optimum cost of RC cantilever retaining walls increases smoothly with the stem height but increases rapidly with the surcharge loads and backfill slope angle.

백합의 품종 및 구근크기가 절화품질에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Bulb Circumference and Cultivar on the Cut Flower Quality in Lily.)

  • 본 연구는 고품질 절화백합 생산을 하기 위해 실제 유통 중인 7품종을 구주를 달리 하여 식재하고, 채화 후 구주와 품종이 절화품질에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 알아보고자 수행하였다.절화품질을 측정한 결과, 화뢰장은 'Medusa', 품종, 절화장은 'Mother's Choice' 품종에서 가장 긴 것으로 확인되었다. 줄기휨각도는 'Mother's choice' 품종과 'Ismael' 품종을 제외한 모든 품종이 $30^{\circ}$ 이상으로 나타났다. 화경장, 화서장, 경경, 꽃 수, 중량 모두 구주가 클수록 좋은 결과를 보였다. 절화품질 중 화뢰장, 절화장, 꽃 수에 영향을 미치는 요인은 구주의 크기이며, 휨각도는 품종과 구주의 크기 모두 영향을 받지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 이와같이 절화품질은 품종보다는 구주에 영향을 받으며 크기가 커질수록 좋은 결과가 나타나는 것으로 확인되었다.

찰옥수수 연구 - XIII. 다수성 찰옥수수 "대덕찰 1호"의 주요 작물학적 특성 및 경제성 분석 (Study on waxy corn - XIII. Botanical characteristics and crude incomes analysis of Daedukchal 1)

  • Daeduckchal 1 waxy corn hybrid including check was planted and compared with domestic leading vatiety on agronomic characteristics, traits related to table gualities and crude income. Stem and ear height of Daeduckchal 1 among used hybrids were intermediate and stem diameter was also similar to other hybrids. Days to tasseling of this hybrid needed 56 days which was slightly shorter than check hybrid, Yeonnong. Ear length of CNU-H2 was longer than Yeonnongchal as 21.7 cm, while Chalok 2 was 14.1 cm. Number of tillers per plant of this hybrid were higher than Chalok 2 but lower than Yeonnong. Pericarp thickness of CNU-H2 and CNU-H3 were similar to Yeonnon. In sugar content, Daeduckchal 1 was intermediate level as 11.7 brix(%). Marketability of Daeduckchal 1 was the highest among used hybrids and crude incomes was also high.

Characteristics of Waesungri Maize (Zea mays L.) Inbred with Multi Tillers and Ears for Crude Forage Use

  • Major characteristics of new Waesungri maize inbred line has multi-tiller and ears: five to six tillers and seven to eight ears per plant and flowering date of Waesungri was delayed about 18 and 24 days compared to Mo17 U.S line and IK$_4$ Korean local lines, respectively. Number of ears, fresh and dry weight per plant were significantly different among all tested hybrids including Waesungri/Sinkihong hybrid under different planting times and densities. Especially, both fresh and dry weight of IK$_1$/FR140//Waesungri F$_1$hybrid were significantly higher at high planting density. In kernel weight per unit area, Wnesungri/Sinkihong hybrid was high at high density and IK$_1$/FR140//Waesungri hybrid was high at low planting density. As results of analysis of variance, flowering date was shown a significantly different both planting times and varieties, while other characters including stem height were shown very variable in interactions with enviromental factors.

감마선($^{60}Co$) 처리 효과에 의한 억새의 변이체 유기 및 유망 계통 육성 (Promising line development of sweet sorghum by gamma-ray treatment)

  • In order to develop the new Miscanthus varieties for biomass, characteristics of collected materials were surveyed. Also, they were treated with S-azide(Sodium-azide) and DES(dethyl sulfate) for promising lines and 0.2% Colchicine for polyploidy, respectively. CNU-J1 line induced with chemical, DES and S-azide treatment showed shorter than others in stem height and stem diameter. CNU-N1 line treated with 10 mM DES showed earlier than non-treated lines in flowering as 7days. Among selected lines, the CNU-J1 line was crossed with DB-1 selected as a superior line and their hybrid was expected to be high in biomass than others. Especially, CNU-W1 line treated with 2.5~5.0 mM DES showed heading in M1 generation.

  • 공시된 교잡종에 대한 식물학적 특성, 잡종강세와 유전적 거리 및 종실특성에 대한 분석 결과는 공시 교잡종에 대한 간장은 CNU H09-26에서 228.5 cm, CNU H09-30에서135.2 cm 범위로 큰 변이를 나타냈으며, 착수고 역시 CNU H09-23에서는 78.2 cm, CNU H09-30에서 22.1 cm으로 교잡종간에 큰 차이를 보였다. 이삭길이는 공시종 중에서 CNU H09-26에서 21.2 cm로 가장 길었고 CNU H09-13에서 10.8 cm로 가장 작게 나타났다. 아밀로 그램의 특성 중에서 호화개시온도는 CNU H09-23의 $71.1^{\circ}C$로 가장 낮은 온도에서 호화가 시작되었으며 식미가 우수한 반면 CNU H09-7은 $76.0^{\circ}C$로 호화온도가 가장 높았다.
