Attachment Representation and Marital Support as Predictors of a Mother's Parenting (2~3세 유아에 대한 어머니의 양육행동과 관련된 변인들 : 부모에 대한 애착표상 및 부부관계를 중심으로)

  • This study explored the contribution of mother's representation of her mother and father during early years, marital satisfaction, and husband's participation in child caring to mothers' parenting behaviors. The subjects were 253 middle-class mothers and fathers in Seoul who had 2-to 3-year-old children. The data were gathered through questionnaires developed for the current study. As predicted, marital satisfaction and husband support as well as early family experiences were significant variables in predicting positive mothering for mothers of young children. However, the most powerful predictor of mothers' parenting turned out to be marital satisfaction. It was noteworthy that mothers who experienced positive and secure relationships with their own mothers were actively involved/intimate with their children whereas mothers who had insecure relationships with their own fathers showed more authoritarian control over their children.

  • The purpose of this study is; 1)to identify the overall levels of household role perception, performance, and evaluation of the low-income employed wives residing in the city. 2) to investigate the relations of them. 3) to examine the factors affecting them. For the purpose of this study, the samples were selected form the low-income employed wives living in the poor area of Seoul and engaging in the poor jobs. The significant results are as follows; 1) The household role perception score is 3.45. This significantly differs to the marriage duration. 2) The household role performance is 3.65. This significantly differs to the communicative satisfaction between husband and wife. 3)The urban low-income employed wives have evaluated that they do their best in the economic role. 4)There are positive correlations between the household role perception and the household role performance of the low-income employed wives. 5) The communicative satisfaction between husband and wife is observed to have the significant factor among the variables which are related to the household role.

The Discretionary Consumption Expenditure of Korean Urban Housewives (도시주부의 선택성 개인 소비지출에 관한연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the discretionary consumption expenditure of Korean urban housewives and the factors contributing to the discretionary consumption expenditure. 535 housewives living in Seoul and Gyungki district were selected and frequencies percentile means standard deviation and multiple-regression analysis were utilized. The results of this study were as follows: First the monthly discretionary consumption expenditure of Korean urban housewives was 592,500won. Particularly the level of clothing expenditure for urban housewives of 135,700won was found to be the highest expenditure among other discretionary expenditures while the level of transportation expenditure of 68,100won was found to be the lowest expenditure. Second educational attainment employment status conspicuous tendency of consumption and contribution to household economic of urban housewives husband's job the number of children monthly income debt ownership and home ownership were ignificant variables on each category of discretionary consumption expenditure while age future economic expectation egion and total asset were not significant variables.   • Work and family life affect each other. Especailly in a corporate-centered society the impact of work on the family is very strong. Organigational sexrole culture is used not only as a method of business management, but also as a style of family living. The Purpose of this study was to analyze an effect of occupation and organizational sexrole culture of husband on the family life. Data for 214 husbands were gathered from the structured questionnaire and time diary. The major findings of this study were as follows; (1) According to the occupation, organizational sexrole culture of husbands is very different. (2) The occupation and organizational sexrole culture of husbands have an important effect on their life time structure. (3) The occupation and organizational sexrole culture of husbands effect on their participation rate of household labor. These results suggested that husbands’ occupation and organization sexrole culture have a significant effect on the family life.

Financial Management and Satisfaction of the Elderly Households (노인단독가구의 가계재정관리와 경제생활만족도)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze financial management and satisfaction of the elderly households using System’s Approach. 1) Financial management behavior was influenced by age, present job, husband’s job before retirement, assets, family income, living expenses, experiences of financial management. 2) Financial satisfaction was influenced by age, present job, husband’s job before retirement, assets, family income, living expenses, experiences of financial management, and assessment of family financial conditions. 3) The result of regression analysis of input variables on the throughput variable showed that age of respondent and the middle age experiences of financial management emerged as predictors of financial management. There variables accounted for 48% of variance in the financial management behavior. 4) When financial satisfaction was regressed against input and throughput variables, 55% of the total variance of the financial satisfaction was explained by financial goal and assessment of family conditions.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate marital stability as a function of the couple's patterns of differentiation of self and family-of-origin emotional health. The subjects were 229 couples who have been married for 10 years or less living in Seoul and whose father or mother is still alive. The main results of this study were summarized as follows; 1. The couples which both husband and wife have high differentiation of self showed the highest marital satisfaction and marital stability. On the other hand, the couples which both husband and wife have low differentiation of self reported the lowest marital satisfaction and marital stability. 2.   • The purposes of this study are to identify the factors associated with the degree of role conflict and the likelihood of exits of the labor force of working wives and to investigate the relationship between the role conflict and job quitting behavior of working wives. The major results of this study are as follows. First, the ratio of reservation wage relative to wife's earnings, wife's earnings, husband's behavioral support, the presence of child under age of 6, the type of occupation, and job satisfaction are associated with the role conflict of working wives. Second, there is a significant difference in the job quitting behavior of working wives according to the degree of role conflict of working wives. Third, the level of role conflict, educational level, the ratio of resonation wage relative to wife's earnings, husband's behavioral support, the presence of child under age of 6, the type of occupation, and job satisfaction are associated with the likelihood of job quitting of working wives.

An Analysis on the Determinants of Labor Supply for Married Women (기혼여성의 노동공급 결정요인에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate the factors affecting the labor supply of married women. Based on the theoretical review of the process for the labor supply of married women and the review of previous research, the emperical specification was deduced as a function of husband's income, assets, education and age, the number of children and home ownership. The data of this research was collected with questionnaire in 1998. The data consisted of the answers by 200 married women. For the measurement of the emperical specification, Logit, Tobit, and Selection Bias Corrected Regression which modifies selection bias were used. Although several different discussions can made depending on the measurement method, the emperical result of this research showed that the labor supply of married women is explained by husband's income, assets, the level of education and work experience.

Parenting Stress and Marital Satisfaction among Dual-earner Families (맞벌이가족의 부모역할 긴장과 부부관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the impacts of various stressors among dual-earner families on parenting stress and marital satisfaction. Using a survey data collected from 168 dual-earner couples, this study investigated impact of various stressors, including husband division of labor, the satisfaction of childcare arrangement, husband's support on wife's outside work, family socioeconomic status, and strains from job. The finding suggested that, after controlling background variables(length of marriage, the number of children, and family income), high husbands' support on wife's outside work and low strains about their work hours had influenced on higher parenting stress among fathers, while high strains about their work hours had related to high parenting stress among mothers. It also found that high satisfaction on childcare arrangement and low depression were the factors predicting higher marital satisfaction of mothers, and high support on their wife's outside work, low work role strain, low depression, and low parenting stress had influenced on higher marital satisfaction among fathers. Discussions and recommendations for future research were added.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore parental strain, mastery, sex role attitude and dyadic adjustment after the transition to parenthood in dual earner family. Using couple data from a sample of 284 dual earner couple, pair t-test, multiple regression analysis, one was ANOVA was used. Major findings were as follows. 1) There were differences between wives and husbands in dyadic adjustment, physical strain, mastery, sex role attitude. Specially, couples experience more emotional strain than physical strain, and wives experience more parental strain than husbands. 2) Couple's parental strain is considered personal attribution rather than family one, but mastery is different. 3) Couple's psychological variables have an effect on the dyadic adjustment sores, especially husband's sex role attitude influences own dyadic adjustment and wife's dyadic adjustment. Wife's mastery also own dyadic adjustment and husband's dyadic adujstment.
