  • This study aims to examine the effect of structural properties, subjective textures, sensibilities, and objective handle on the preference for weft knit fabrics, and then to provide useful information in planning and designing knit fabrics through predicting the preference. We made 20 plain knit fabrics, as specimens, with a combination of 5 kinds of wool/rayon fiber contents and 4 kinds of stitch loop length. For the subjective evaluation of textures, sensibilities, and preference, we used the questionnaire that had been developed in the previous study. The data analysis was conducted with Pearson's correlation analysis, ANOVA, Duncann multiple range test and regression analysis. The results are as follows: In relationship of structural properties and preference, we could not recognize any difference in whole ranges of wool/ rayon fiber contents and in 7.5mm and less stitch loop length. On the other hand, we could find the decrease of preference in over 7.5mm stitch loop length. As to subjective textures and sensibilities, a multiple regression analysis of preference indicated a higher determination coefficient by sensibilities than by textures. But there were little correlation between a objective handle and preference of weft knit fabrics.

  • In this paper, Human-in-the-Loop (HiTL) simulations of Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) operations in two different Air Traffic Management (ATM) concepts, conventional radar vectoring and Trajectory Based Operations (TBO), were performed to assess the impacts of RPAS integration in the future ATM environment. TBO concept maximizes the throughput by planning and sharing 4-D trajectories between pilots and controllers, and it is considered one of the key concepts to enable RPASs to operate with manned aircraft in congested airspaces. RPASs are characterized by having communication delay or temporary loss of communication. TBO capability was added to the integrated air traffic simulation system for this study, which was developed in the Inha University. HiTL simulations were performed by a trainee air traffic controller with three scenarios, and the data were analyzed using safety, efficiency, and controller workload metrics. The results suggest that TBO were effective in reducing delays and controller workload while maintaining the level of safety.

  • The events at Three Mile Island in the United States brought about fundamental changes in the ways that simulation would be used in nuclear operations. The need for research simulators was identified to scientifically study human-centered risk and make recommendations for process control system designs. This paper documents the human factors research conducted at the Human Systems and Simulation Laboratory (HSSL) since its inception in 2010 at Idaho National Laboratory. The facility's primary purposes are to provide support to utilities for system upgrades and to validate modernized control room concepts. In the last decade, however, as nuclear industry needs have evolved, so too have the purposes of the HSSL. Thus, beyond control room modernization, human factors researchers have evaluated the security of nuclear infrastructure from cyber adversaries and evaluated human-in-the-loop simulations for joint operations with an integrated hydrogen generation plant. Lastly, our review presents research using human reliability analysis techniques with data collected from HSSL-based studies and concludes with potential future directions for the HSSL, including severe accident management and advanced control room technologies.

  • While a great number of studies on human motor control have provided a wide variety of viewpoints concerning the strategy of the central nervous system (CNS) in controlling limb movement, none were able to reveal the exact methods how the movement command from CNS is mapped onto the neuromuscular activity. As a preliminary study of human-machine interface design, the characteristics of human leg motion and its underlying motor control scheme are studied through experiments and simulations in this paper. The findings in this study suggest a simple open-loop motor control scheme in leg motion. As a possible candidate, an equilibrium point control model appears consistent in recreating the experimental data in numerical simulations. Based on the general leg motion analysis, the braking motion by the driver's leg is modeled.

  • For the government of president Moon's AI SW HRD policy, he proclaimed AI democracy that anyone can utilize artificial intelligence technology to spread AI education for the people of the country. Through cognitive map analysis, this study presents expected policy outcomes due to the input of policy factors to overcome crisis factors and utilize opportunity factors. According to the cognitive guidance analysis, first, the opportunity factor is recognized as accelerating the digital transformation to Covid 19 if AI SW HRD is well nurtured. Second, the crisis factor refers to the rapid paradigm shift caused by the intelligence information society, resulting in job losses in the manufacturing sector and deepening imbalance in manpower supply and demand, especially in the artificial intelligence sector. Third, the comprehensive cognitive map shows a circular process for creating an AI SW ecosystem in response to threats caused by untact caused by Corona and a circular process for securing AI talent in response to threats caused by deepening imbalance in manpower supply and demand in the AI sector. Fourth, in order to accelerate the digital circulation that has been accelerated by Corona, we found a circular process to succeed in the Korean version of digital new deal by strengthening national and corporate competitiveness through AI-utilized capacity and industrial and regional AI education. Finally, the AI utilization empowerment strengthening rotation process is the most dominant of the four mechanisms, and we also found a relatively controllable feedback loop to obtain policy outputs.

  • Genome-wide chromosome conformation capture (3C)-based high-throughput sequencing (Hi-C) has enabled identification of genome-wide chromatin loops. Because the Hi-C map with restriction fragment resolution is intrinsically associated with sparsity and stochastic noise, Hi-C data are usually binned at particular intervals; however, the binning method has limited reliability, especially at high resolution. Here, we describe a new method called HiCORE, which provides simple pipelines and algorithms to overcome the limitations of single-layered binning and predict core chromatin regions with three-dimensional physical interactions. In this approach, multiple layers of binning with slightly shifted genome coverage are generated, and interacting bins at each layer are integrated to infer narrower regions of chromatin interactions. HiCORE predicts chromatin looping regions with higher resolution, both in human and Arabidopsis genomes, and contributes to the identification of the precise positions of potential genomic elements in an unbiased manner.

  • Electrical construction business has public and professional characters. It may require appropriate interventions of the government because these business activities stand for not only profit-seeking competition, but also supplies of one of the key functions in our society. In other words, public benefit and private benefit are still in existence. The government therefore considers such an aspect of public importance of the business sector and needs to plan to adjust technical and engineering manpower of this market. This study focuses on the imbalance for labor supply and demand of technical engineer in electrical construction business. A system dynamics analysis is applied to understand and simulate the imbalance as a soft approach. It has the merit of causal loop diagram to alleviate the limitation of data lack problem. We find that excess demand is expected from 2010 to 2011, and excess supply is predicted from 2012 to 2021 about the manpower of technical engineer. It shows considerable disagreement between the supply and demand of human resource. So we suggest that it is strong necessity to construct statistics infrastructure for a manpower supply and demand plan.

  • Epidemiological data suggest that lycopene has anticancer activities in humans. Insulin-like growth factor-I receptor (IGF-IR) is a transmembrane tyrosine kinase that mediates the biological actions of IGFs and may play an active role in cancer progression. Because our previous in vitro studies have indicated lycopene inhibits HT-29 cell growth, the aim of this study was to determine whether lycopene induces apoptotic cell death and the inhibitory effect of lycopene on HT-29 cell growth is related to changes in IGF-IR levels and the receptor's intracellular signalling pathways. HT-29 cells were incubated for 4 days in serum-free medium in the presence of 0, 25, 50, or 100 $\mu$M lycopene, and the DNA fragmentation assay was performed. Cells treated with lycopene produced a distinct oligonucleosomal ladder with different sizes of DNA fragments, a typical characteristic of cells undergoing apoptosis. HT-29 cells were cultured for 4 days in serum-free medium in the presence of 0~100 $\mu$M lycopene and IGF-I (10nM) was added for 0~60 minutes immediately prior to lysate preparations. Western blot analysis of total lysates revealed that lycopene decreased the levels of IRS-1, Akt, phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K), and IGF-IR $\beta$-subunit, and increased the levels of the IGF-IR precursor dose dependently. Lycopene also decreased IGF-I-induced phosphorylation of IGF-IR$\beta$, IRS-1 and Akt, which were, at least in part, due to decreased expression of these proteins. These results suggest that lycopene induces apoptosis of HT-29 cells by inhibiting IGF-IR signaling thereby interfering with an IGF-II-driven autocrine growth loop, which is known to exist in this cell line.

  • Objectives: This study was performed to determine whether the combined use of one-bottle self-etch adhesives and composite resins from same manufacturers have better bond strengths than combinations of adhesive and resins from different manufacturers. Materials and Methods: 25 experimental micro-shear bond test groups were made from combinations of five dentin adhesives and five composite resins with extracted human molars stored in saline for 24 hr. Testing was performed using the wire-loop method and a universal testing machine. Bond strength data was statistically analyzed using two way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's post hoc test. Results: Two way ANOVA revealed significant differences for the factors of dentin adhesives and composite resins, and significant interaction effect (p < 0.001). All combinations with Xeno V (Dentsply De Trey) and Clearfil $S^3$ Bond (Kuraray Dental) adhesives showed no significant differences in micro-shear bond strength, but other adhesives showed significant differences depending on the composite resin (p < 0.05). Contrary to the other adhesives, Xeno V and BondForce (Tokuyama Dental) had higher bond strengths with the same manufacturer's composite resin than other manufacturer's composite resin. Conclusions: Not all combinations of adhesive and composite resin by same manufacturers failed to show significantly higher bond strengths than mixed manufacturer combinations.
