웨어러블 센서를 활용한 경량 인공신경망 기반 손동작 인식기술 (A Light-weight ANN-based Hand Motion Recognition Using a Wearable Sensor)

  • Motion recognition is very useful for implementing an intuitive HMI (Human-Machine Interface). In particular, hands are the body parts that can move most precisely with relatively small portion of energy. Thus hand motion has been used as an efficient communication interface with other persons or machines. In this paper, we design and implement a light-weight ANN (Artificial Neural Network)-based hand motion recognition using a state-of-the-art flex sensor. The proposed design consists of data collection from a wearable flex sensor, preprocessing filters, and a light-weight NN (Neural Network) classifier. For verifying the performance and functionality of the proposed design, we implement it on a low-end embedded device. Finally, our experiments and prototype implementation demonstrate that the accuracy of the proposed hand motion recognition achieves up to 98.7%.

  • To operate Platform Screen Door (PSD) automatically, the operational data of PSD and the train must be interfaced properly. PSD and train are operated together by the signaling system in Automatic Train Operation (ATO) signaling system zone where interfaces are provided between PSD and train. However, the additional PSD interface system with train is required in train operating zone without the interface between PSD and train. For the PSD interface, the wireless communication system or the train status (train correct stop status / train door status) detection system has been used. Seoul Metro line No.2. has the PSD wireless communication system using 447MHz band RF. For the safety of PSD operation, it is required to prevent RF interference in the subway environment where many frequencies exist. In this paper, the PSD wireless communication system is developed using 2.4GHz band RF to prevent the interference of the wireless communication and increase the traffic of the PSD interface. Furthermore, the improved system can store, manage and display the PSD and train operational data using Human Machine Interface (HMI) in the train's driver cab.

뇌파 탐지용 Gel-free probe 연구 (A Study on Gel-free Probe for Detecting EEG)

  • Over the past 15 years productive BCI research programs have arisen. Current mainstream EEG electrode setups permit efficient recordings but most of electrodes has the disadventages of need for skin preparation and gel application to correctly record signals. The new gel-free probe was adapted for EEG recording and it can be fixed to the scalp with the micro needle without neuro-gel. It use standard EEG cap for wearing electrodes on scalp so it is compatible with standard EEG electrodes. A comparison between electrode characteristics is achieved by performing simultaneous recordings with the gel electrodes and gel-free probe placed in parallel scalp positions on the same anatomical regions. The quality of EEG recordings for all two types of experimental conditions is similar for gel-electrodes and gel-free probe. Subjects also reported not having special tactile sensations associated with wearing of gel-free probes. According to our results, it is expected that gel-free probe can be adapted to BCI, BMI(Brain Machine Interface), HMI(Human Machine Interface) because of its simple application and comfortable wearing process.

  • This research presents a fuel cell simulator for control logic verification and operator training. Nowadays, power industries are focusing on clean energy as a response to new policy. The fuel cell can be the solution for clean energy, but operating technology is not well developed compared to other conventional power plans because of its short history. Therefore we need a simulator to verify the new control strategy and train operators, because the price of a real fuel cell system is too high and mechanically weak to be used for these kind of purposes. To develop the simulator, a 300 KW MCFC(Molten Carbonate Fuel Cell) system was modeled with stack, BOPs(pre-reformer, steam generator, etc) and mechanical components(valves, pipes, pumps, blowers, etc). The process model was integrated to emulated control system and HMI(Human Machine Interface). A static load and open loop tests were conducted for verifying the accuracy of the process model, since it is the most important part in the simulation. After verifying the process model, an automatic load change and start-up tests were conducted to verify the performance of a new control strategy(logic and functional loops).

빌딩 자동제어용 센서 및 신호의 듀플리케이터(Duplicator) 개발 (Development of Sensor and Signal Duplicator for Building Automation)

  • 본 논문에서는 빌딩 자동제어용 센서 및 신호의 듀플리케이터(Duplicator)를 개발한다. 개발된 듀플리케이터는 빌딩 자동제어에 사용되는 여러 개의 센서를 원거리에 있는 빌딩자동화기기에 직접 연결하지 않고 데이터 수집장치와 데이터 송신장치간의 논리적 통신방식을 사용하여 센서 데이터를 그대로 복원한다. 이때 센서의 신호가 원거리로 전송될 때 발생될 수 있는 전기적인 오차를 줄일 수 있고 자동제어의 시공원가를 절감시킬 수 있다. 또한 논리적 통신방식으로 개방형 프로토콜을 사용하기 때문에 상용 HMI와 호환이 되어 확장성을 보장한다. 개발된 듀플리케이터의 성능을 평가하기 위하여 실제 환경에서 시운전을 수행하여 정상 동작함을 보였다. 또한 측정 오차율, 동작 온도, 동작 습도 등에 대하여 공인 시험기관의 장비를 사용하여 실험한 결과 우수한 성능을 나타내었다.

  • 본 연구에서는 지능형 최대수요 전력관리 장치를 개발하였다. 전체 시스템은 지능형 최대수요전력관리장치와 원격에서 부하를 관리할 수 있는 단말처리장치 그리고 사용자의 편의와 원격관리를 위한 HMI 프로그램으로 구성되었다. 개발된 지능형 최대수요전력관리장치의 특징은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 전력회사(예: 한국전력) 거래용 전력량계와 수요시한 동기가 가능하여 정확한 전력판리가 기능하다. 두 번째로 정밀한 전력계측기능을 내장하여 시스템을 간략화 할 수 있다. 세 번째로 단말처리정치를 개발하여 통선을 이용한 원격부하 관리를 수행하므로 초기 설치비용올 저감시켰다. 마지막으로 웹(web)기반 관리시스템을 구축하여 분산된 지능형 최대수요전력관려장치의 편리를 용이하게 하였다. 여러 가지 실험을 통해서 개발된 시스템의 성능을 검증하였다.

  • Recently industrial control systems have been required to ensure intelligent, high tech automation, interconnection and interoperability demands. Therefore, there is a need to redefine the structure concepts of SCADA system for wind power. Also, at this time, the integrated management system is required for the distributed development of wind farms where are needed often interoperability features and exchange information between different wind farms, wind turbines or SCADA systems. In this paper, an integrated structural concepts for SCADA system are defined. Based on this definition of an integrated SCADA system, the basic designs are analyzed on physical layer, system layer and application layer which are corresponded to wind turbine controller, the SCADA server and the SCADA client, and implement HMI. Between the implementation SCADA server and the client, their normal functions were verified at the small scale wind energy test facilities.

  • The lightning arrester is a very important overvoltage protection device in the electric power system. Therefore, the inspection of lightning arrester whether it keeps its performance or not properly has close related to verifying the safety confidence of the electric power system. But the development of the deterioration measuring method and on-line detecting system, is necessary to monitor the deterioration of the lightening arrestor. In this paper, we developed the lightning arrester degradation monitoring system. This system detected leakage current of lightning arrester by using the ZCT, and analyze the third harmonics ingredient of leakage current using DFT method in the Data Acquisition Unit(DAU). The analyzed current signal is transmit to the Human-Machine Interface(HMI), and HMI alarmed when accident are occurred and informed with the amplitude of leakage current to the operator.

  • 무인항공기시스템 수요의 증가와 기술의 급격한 발전에 따라 많은 국가들에서 기존의 공역 시스템에 무인항공기를 통합하려는 시도가 이루어지고 있다. 유인항공기와 무인항공기의 통합 운용에 따른 영향을 파악하기 위해서는 유무인항공기의 통합 시뮬레이션 시스템을 통한 HiTL (Human-in-The-Loop) 시뮬레이션이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 유무인항공기 통합 시뮬레이션을 위한 운용 개념을 정의하고, 유무인항공기 통합 운용 시 발생 가능한 상황을 시나리오로 설정하여, HiTL 시뮬레이션을 수행하였다. 수행 결과에 대해 통신, 안전, 성능, HMI로 나누어 영향을 분석하였다.

A REVIEW OF STUDIES ON OPERATOR'S INFORMATION SEARCHING BEHAVIOR FOR HUMAN FACTORS STUDIES IN NPP MCRS

  • This paper reviews studies on information searching behavior in process control systems and discusses some implications learned from previous studies for use in human factors studies on nuclear power plants (NPPs) main control rooms (MCRs). Information searching behavior in NPPs depends on expectancy, value, salience, and effort. The first quantitative scanning model developed by Senders for instrument panel monitoring considered bandwidth (change rate) of instruments as a determining factor in scanning behavior. Senders' model was subsequently elaborated by other researchers to account for value in addition to bandwidth. There is also another type of model based on the operator's situation awareness (SA) which has been developed for NPP application. In these SA-based models, situation-event relations or rules on system dynamics are considered the most significant factor forming expectancy. From the review of previous studies it is recommended that, for NPP application, (1) a set of symptomatic information sources including both changed and unchanged symptoms should be considered along with bandwidth as determining factors governing information searching (or visual sampling) behavior; (2) both data-driven monitoring and knowledge-driven monitoring should be considered and balanced in a systematic way; (3) sound models describing mechanisms of cognitive activities during information searching tasks should be developed so as to bridge studies on information searching behavior and design improvement in HMI; (4) the attention-situation awareness (A-SA) modeling approach should be recognized as a promising approach to be examined further; and (5) information displays should be expected to have totally different characteristics in advanced control rooms. Hence much attention should be devoted to information searching behavior including human-machine interface (HMI) design and human cognitive processes.
