Breakage Detection of Small-Diameter Tap Using Vision System in High-Speed Tapping Machine with Open Architecture Controller

  • In this research, a vision system for detecting breakages of small-diameter taps, which are rarely detected by the indirect in-process monitoring methods such as acoustic emission, cutting torque and motor current, was developed. Two HMI (Human Machine Interface) programs to embed the developed vision system into a Siemens open architecture controller, 840D, were developed. They are placed in sub-windows of the main window of the 840D and can be activated or deactivated either by a softkey on the operating panel or the M code in the NC part program. In the event that any type of tool breakage is detected, the HMI program issues a command for an automatic tool change or sends an alarm signal to the NC kernel. An evaluation test in a high-speed tapping machine showed that the developed vision system was successful in detecting breakages of small-diameter taps up to M1.

  • This paper has been studied about the real time monitoring system development using TCP/IP ethernet and RS-422 serial communication link in general communication methods that rocket fire control agents could be monitoring about real time Rocket fire event procedures and be managing total rocket fire courses. Also, this paper has been studied the HMI(Human Machine Interface) control program and algorithm that guarantee confidential control for the Fire Display System.

  • In the distribution system, Change of system happens frequently. However, most of the relays are operated manually by a person or not changed when system changed. So, when fault happened, a case that relaydoes not act rapidly happens. Also, in current power system, digital relays are used because of digitization of relay. Digital relay has very many advantages than existing analog relay. One of these advantages is that communication is available and easily can make characteristic curve. If specific values are sent to a relay by communication, A relay can make suitable characteristic curve according to the value. In this paper, by using voltages and currents measured by relay, state of CB(Circuit Breaker) and these relays, SCADA(Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) system that control and correct characteristic curve of overcurrent relay at system change by using HMI(Human Machine Interface) is proposed.

  • Digitalization of not only non-safety but also safety-grade I &C systems with full computerized Main Control Room (MCR) is the recent trend of I&C systems of nuclear power plants (NPP) around the world, while plant maintenance has been shifting from traditional time based maintenance to condition based maintenance. In order to cope with the new trend of operation and maintenance in NPP, a concept of online distributed diagnostic system for both plant operation and maintenance has been proposed in order to further improve both the plant efficiency and the work environment of plant operation staff members by organizational learning. In this respect, the research subjects of human machine interface (HMI) for the online distributed diagnostic system are also discussed for supporting the plant personnel at both MCR and local working places in the plant by the application of advanced ICT (Information and Communication Technologies).

  • In this paper, the development of an IMM(Injection Molding Machine) controller is discussed. Presently, the Mold Close and Open Control Method of a toggle-type IMM is open-loop control. Through the development, a PC based control system was built instead of an existing controller and a closed-loop control replaced the previous control method by using PC based PLC. To control the nonlinear system of toggle type clamping unit, a fuzzy PI control algorithm was selected and it was programmed by an IL(Instruction List) and a LD(Ladder Diagram) on a PC based PLC. The application of fuzzy algorithm as the control method was also considered to change a control object like a mold replacement or an additional apparatus. For the development of an IMM controller, PC based PLC of PCI card type, distributed I/O modules with CANopen and Industrial PC and HMI (Human Machine Interface) software were used.

  • As the 4th industrial revolution emerges, the implementation of smart factories are essential in the manufacturing industry. However, 80% of small and medium-sized enterprises that have introduced smart factories remain at the basic level. In addition, in root industries such as injection molding, PLC and HMI software are used to implement functions that simply show operation data aggregated by facilities in real time. This has limitations for managers to make decisions related to product production other than viewing data. This study presents a method for upgrading the level of smart factories to suit the reality of small and medium-sized enterprises. By monitoring the data collected from the facility, it is possible to determine whether there is an abnormal situation by proposing an appropriate algorithm for meaningful decision-making, and an alarm sounds when the process is out of control. In this study, the function of HMI has been expanded to check the failure frequency rate, facility time operation rate, average time between failures, and average time between failures based on facility operation signals. For the injection molding industry, an HMI prototype including the extended function proposed in this study was implemented. This is expected to provide a foundation for SMEs that do not have sufficient IT capabilities to advance to the middle level of smart factories without making large investments.

  • Recently, various networks have been introduced in the car of the internal and external sides. These have been integrated by one HMI(Human Machine Interface) to control devices of each network and provide information service. The existing vehicle navigation system, providing GPS based vehicle positioning service, has been included to these integrated networks as a default option. The GPS has been used to the most universal device to provide position information by using satellites' signal. But It is impossible to provide the position information when the GPS can't receive the satellites' signal in the area of tunnel, urban canyon, or forest canopy. Thus, this paper propose and implement the method of measuring vehicle position by using the sensing data of internal CAN network and external Wi-Fi network of the integrated car navigation circumstances when the GPS doesn't work normally. The results obtained by implementation shows the proposed method works well by map matching.

  • In this paper, a low-cost impedance spectroscopy system(LCISS) suitable for modeling the electrochemical power sources such as fuel cells, batteries and supercapacitors is designed and implemented. Since the developed LCISS is composed of simple sensor circuits, commercial data acquisition board and LabVIEW software, a graphic language with powerful HMI(Human-Machine Interface), it is expected ta be widely used in substitution of the expensive EIS instruments. In the proposed system, the digital lock-in amplifier is adopted to achieve the accurate measurements even in the presence of the high level of noises. The developed hardware and software is applied to measure the impedance spectrum of the Ballard Nexa 1.2kW proton exchange membrane fuel cell stack and an equivalent impedance model is proposed based on the measurement results. The validity of the proposed equivalent circuit and the developed system is proven by the measurement of the ac power losses of the PEM fuel celt stack by the ripple current.
