  • Intra-Body Communication (IBC) is a communication method using the human body as a communication medium. The fact that our human body consists of water and electrolyte allow such communication method could work and have strength in low-power. However, because the IBC directly affects to human body by using it as a medium, there was a lack of research in communication protocols of each communication layer. In this paper, we suggests MAC parameters which affects the performance of communication in human body channel, and propose new MAC protocol. Our results shows that our MAC is suitable for supporting high data rate applications with comparable radio duty cycle performance.

  • This paper proposes a low-cost visual analyzer algorithm of human body motion for real-time applications such as human-computer interfacing, virtual reality applications in medicine and telemonitoring of patients. To reduce cost of its use, we design the algorithm to use a single camera. To make the proposed system to be used more conveniently, we avoid from using optical markers. To make the proposed algorithm be convenient for real-time applications, we design it to have a closed-form with high accuracy. To design a closed-form algorithm, we propose an idea that formulates motion of a human body joint as a 2D universal joint model instead of a common 3D spherical joint model, without any kins of approximation. To make the closed-form algorithm has high accuracy, we formulates the estimation process to be an optimization problem. Thus-desined algorithm is applied to each joint of the human body one after another. Through experiments we show that human body motion capturing can be performed in an efficient and robust manner by using our algorithm.

  • Recently, various researches in respect of the positioning technologies using satellites and the other sensors have made location-based services (LBS) more common and accurate. Consequently, concern about position information has been increasing. However, since these positioning systems only focus on user's position, it is difficult to know the user's attitude or detailed behaviors at the specific position. It is worthy to study on how to acquire such human attitude or behavior, because those information is useful to know the context of the user. In this paper, the sensor unit consisting of three dimensional accelerometer was attached to human body, and autonomously measured the perpendicular acceleration of ordinary human behaviors including activity modes such as walking, running, and transportation mode using transportation such as a train, a bus, and an elevator. Subsequently, using the classified measurement results, the method to identify the human activity modes was proposed.

  • The development of various electronic media such as the Internet and smart phones, each kinds of media informations has been accompanied by the fact that various types of media information are provided from one media, and on the other hand, various dysfunctions including smart phone addiction are also caused by a very large social problem. Especially, one of the biggest dysfunctions is the social crime problem such as sex crime caused by increased sexual desire according to watch the phonography, and even if it is not a social crime, watching the phonography has influenced bad mental and physical on human body. In this paper, we try to analyze what kind of change occurs in the voice in order to investigate what kind of bad influence it has on the human body after watching the phonography. In other words, the voice in the human body is the place where the human body signal is most expressed with the face. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the effects on the organs of the human body by comparing the change of voice before and after watching phonography. Experimental results showed that the stress hormone was increased by the inability to resolve sexual desire after watching the phonography, which resulted in an increase in the bandwidth of the 3rd formant frequency.

  • In this paper, the implementation of a human signal sensing module that has capabilities to check and restore the weak signals from the human body is presented. A module presented in this paper consists of processing and sensing elements related to human pulse and body temperature and a controller implemented with SoC design method. PPG data is detected by a noise filtering process toward the amplified signal which is from the operating frequency between 0.1Hz - 10Hz. A digital temperature sensor is used to check the body temperature. A sensor outputs the corresponding value of the electric voltage according to the body temperature. Moreover, this paper discusses the implementation of an enhanced microprocessor which is synthesized with VHDL as a part of the SoC development and used to control the entire module. The SoC processor is implemented on a Xilinx Spartan 3 XC3S1000 device and has the achieved operating frequency of 10MHz. The implemented SoC processor core is successfully tested with macro memories in FPGA and the experimental results are hereby shown.

  • The aim of the present study was to assess the anti-obesity effects of fermented kochujang supplement in C57BL/6J mice. Thirty mice were divided into 3 groups; normal diet control group (ND), high fat diet control group (HD), and high fat diet plus kochujang supplemented group (HDK). Results were as follows: 1. Fennented kochujang supplement in high fat diet decreased body weight and epidydimal and back fat weight compared to non-supplement in HD group. 2. Lipid content and blood glucose level were lower in HDK group than HD group. 3. Fermented kochujang supplement increased mRNA level of lipolytic genes such as acyl-CoA synthetase (ACS), carnitine palmitoyltransferase-1 (CPT-1), and uncoupling proteins-1 (UCP-1) expression, whereas decreased mRNA level of adipogenic genes such as acetyl CoA carboxylase (ACC) expression. These findings suggest that fermented kochujang supplement in high fat diet normalized body weight, epididymal and back fat weight, lipid content, and blood glucose levels through controlling lipid metabolism and provides basic information on the control of obesity.

  • Convergence of IT and BT is considered in many area, especially in medical care industry. The example of this trend is a capsule endoscope. But in a capsule endoscope, communication through human body has a few restrictions. At first, the transmit power should be limited not to have a bad effect on human organs and for the battery capacity. Second, the channel characteristic of human body has not been examined exactly. Third, general modulation / demodulation techniques which require a channel estimation cannot be used because of battery limit. There also may be a lot of interference signals because a capsule endoscope uses UWB bandwidth. In this paper, we introduce Chirp Spread Spectrum Differential Binary Phase Shift Keying(CSS-DBPSK) and propose Chirp Spread Spectrum On-Off Keying(CSS-OOK) which don't require a channel estimation and robust to interference signals. Using CSS-DBPSK or CSS-OOK, we can get 5 dB or 2~3 dB of Eb/N0 gain at 10-5 target BER. And if there are interference signals, those gains of CSS-DBPSK and CSS-OOK are increased.

  • This study aimed to examine the relationship between body image satisfaction and breast self-screening behaviors and intentions. The sample for this cross-sectional study consisted of 842 female university students who were recruited from a number of public and private universities. Data were obtained between the months of November and December, 2013, using multistage random cluster sampling. Main research variables were breast cancer screening behavior and intentions, demographic factors, and the total scores on each of the Multidimensional Body-Self Relations Questionnaire (MBSRQ-Appearance Scales) subscales. Results of multivariate analysis showed that having higher satisfaction and more positive evaluation of appearance were related to having performed breast self-examination more frequently in the last year and intending to perform breast self-examination more frequently in the next year. Longitudinal research can potentially provide detailed information about overall body image satisfaction and breast cancer screening behavior among various communities.

  • This study aims at strengthening the national competitiveness of Korea's clothing industry as it provides substantial information on type characteristics and body types for Chinese women and improves the fitness of clothing, considering human proportion in the production of clothing products for export to China. This study measured for 1,381 women between 19 and 50 aged residing in Beijing and Shanghai, China from June 23 to August 7, 2004 by the simple random sampling. Data was analyzed by used SPSS/WIN 10.0 Program. As for the of method of this study, the technical statistical analysis, F-test, and Duncan-test were made. The results of this study are as follows. As age increases, the shoulders seem higher with less curvature on waist, while the front has turned into the straight silhouette with the side turned into the flat silhouette without curvature, and waist and belly turn into the body type of short and thick.
