  • This paper presents a numerical investigation of the deflagration to detonation transition (DDT) of flame acceleration by a shock wave filled with an ethylene-air mixture in bent tube. A model consisting of the reactive compressible Navier-Stokes equations and the ghost fluid method (GFM) for complex boundary treatment is used. A various intensities of incident shock wave simulations show the generation of hot spots by shock-flame interaction and the accelerated flame propagation due to geometrical effect. Also the first detonation occurs nearly constant chemical heat release rate, 20 MJ/($g{\cdot}s$). Through our simulation's results, we concentrate the complex confinement effects in generating strong shock wave, shock-flame interaction, hot spot and DDT in pipe.

  • We attempt to investigate the main reason of the asymmetrical light curves of contact and near-contact eclipsing binary base on the hypothesis that cool spot was produced on late type star while hot spot was produced from transferred material from their companion star hitting surface. We select 7 eclipsing binary systems which showed asymmetric light curves and mass transfer. Period variation and mass transfer rate were obtained from O-C diagram. Radial velocity curves and light curves of those 7 eclipsing binary system were adopted from available literature in order to obtain the absolute dimension. For four contact eclipsing binary system (AD Phe, EZ Hya, AG Vir and VW Boo), their component stars belonged to spectral type G to K was fitted by cool spot model. While the other two near-contact systems (RT Scl and V1010 Oph) and one contact system (SV Cen) was fitted by cool spot model. The densities of the materials are adopted from stellar model which calculate by stellar structure code. The calculated spot temperature turns out to agree with the photometric solution but there are no correlate between period variation rate and type of spot.

  • Background: Suicide is one of important health problems in Korea. Previous studies showed factors associated with suicide in individual levels. However, suicide was influenced by society that individuals belong to, so it was required to analyze suicide in local levels. The purpose of this study was to analyze the regional disparities of suicide mortality by gender and the association between local characteristics and suicide mortality. Methods: This study included 229 city county district administrative districts in Korea. Age- and sex-standardized suicide mortality and age-standardized suicide mortality (male/female) were used as dependent variables. City county district types, socio-demographics (number of divorces per 1,000 population, number of marriages per 1,000 population, and single households), financial variable (financial independence), welfare variable (welfare budget), and health behavior/status (perceived health status scores and EuroQol-5 dimension [EQ-5D]) were used to represent the local characteristics. We used hot-spot analysis to identify the spatial patterns of suicide mortality and negative binomial regression analysis to examine factors affecting suicide mortality. Results: There were differences in distribution of suicide mortality and hot-spot regions of suicide mortality by gender. Negative binomial regression analysis provided that city county district types (city), number of divorces per 1,000 population, financial independence, and EQ-5D had significant influences on the age- and sex-standardized suicide mortality per 100,000. Factor influencing suicide mortality was the number of divorces per 1,000 population in both male and female. Conclusion: Study results provided evidences that suicide mortality among regions was differed by gender. Health policy makers will need to consider gender and local characteristics when making policies for suicides.

  • It is very important to understand the correlation of between inter layer dielectric(ILD) CMP process and various facility factors supplied to equipment system. In this paper, the correlation between the various facility factors supplied to CMP equipment system and ILD CMP process were studied. To prevent the partial over-polishing(edge hot-spot) generated in the wafer edge area during polishing, we analyzed various facilities supplied at supply system. With facility shortage of D.I. water(DIW) pressure, we introduced an adding purified $N_2(PN_2)$ gas in polishing head cleaning station for increasing a cleaning effect. DIW pressure and PN2 gas factors were not related with removal rate, but edge hot-spot of patterned wafer had a serious relation. We estimated two factors (DIW pressure and PN2 gas) for the improvement of CMP process. Especially, we obtained a uniform planarity in patterned wafer and prohibited more than 90% wafer edge over-polishing. In this study, we acknowledged that facility factors supplied to equipment system played an important role in ILD-CMP process.

  • Multi-hop communication in clustering system is the technique that forms the cluster to aggregate the sensing data and transmit them to base station through midway cluster head. Cluster head around base station send more packet than that of far from base station. Because of this hot spot problem occurs and cluster head around base station increases energy consumption. In this paper, I propose a cluster group head selection using trajectory clustering technique(CHST). CHST select cluster head and group head using trajectory clustering technique and fitness function and it increases the energy efficiency. Hot spot problem can be solved by selection of cluster group with multi layer and balanced energy consumption using it's fitness function. I also show that proposed CHST is better than previous clustering method at the point of network energy efficiency.

  • In this paper, a performance evaluation model of the Multistage Interconnection Network(MIN) with the multiple-buffered crossbar switches under Hot-spot environment is proposed and examined. Buffered switch technique is well known to solve the data collision problem of the MIN. The proposed evaluation model is developed by investigating the transfer patterns of data packets in a switch. The performance of the multiple-buffered $a{\times}a$ crossbar switch is analyzed. Steady state probability concept is used to simplify the analyzing processes. Two important parameters of the network performance, throughput and delay, are then evaluated. To validate the proposed analysis model, the simulation is carried out on a Baseline network that uses the multiple buffered crossbar switches. Less than 2% differences between analysis and simulation results are observed. It is also shown that the network performance is significantly improved when the small number of buffer spaces is given. However, the throughput elevation is getting reduced and network delay becomes increasing as more buffer spaces are added in a switch.

  • Microcontrollers (MCUs) for endpoint smart sensor devices of internet-of-thing (IoT) are being implemented as system-on-chip (SoC) with on-chip instruction flash memory, in which user firmware is embedded. MCUs directly fetch binary code-based instructions through bit-line sense amplifier (S/A) integrated with on-chip flash memory. The S/A compares bit cell current with reference current to identify which data are programmed. The S/A in reading '0' (erased) cell data consumes a large sink current, which is greater than off-current for '1' (programmed) cell data. The main motivation of our approach is to reduce the number of accesses of erased cells by binary code level transformation. This paper proposes a built-in write/read path architecture using binary code inversion method based on hot-spot region detection of instruction code access to reduce sensing current in S/A. From the profiling result of instruction access patterns, hot-spot region of an original compiled binary code is conditionally inverted with the proposed bit-inversion techniques. The de-inversion hardware only consumes small logic current instead of analog sink current in S/A and it is integrated with the conventional S/A to restore original binary instructions. The proposed techniques are applied to the fully-custom designed MCU with ARM Cortex-M0$^{TM}$ using 0.18um Magnachip Flash-embedded CMOS process and the benefits in terms of power consumption reduction are evaluated for Dhrystone$^{TM}$ benchmark. The profiling environment of instruction code executions is implemented by extending commercial ARM KEIL$^{TM}$ MDK (MCU Development Kit) with our custom-designed access analyzer.

  • Purpose: Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) is rare autosomal recessive genetic disorder of DNA repair in which the ability to repair damage caused by ultraviolet light is deficient. We reported the first molecularly confirmed Korean patient of XP by targeted exome sequencing. The prevalence of XP included all subtype and carrier frequency of XP-A the using public data were estimated for the first time in South Korea. Materials and Methods: We described a 4-year-old Korean girl with clinical diagnosis of XP. We performed targeted exome sequencing in the patient for genetic confirmation considering disease genetic heterogeneity and for differential diagnosis. We verified a carrier frequency of c.390-1G>C in XPA gene known as mutational hot spot using Korean Reference Genome Data Base. We estimated the period prevalence of all subtypes of XP based on claims data of the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service in South Korea. Results: We identified homozygous splicing mutation of XPA (c.390-1G>C) in the patient. The carrier frequency of risk for XPA (c.390-1G>C) was relatively high 1.608 e-03 (allele count 2/1244). The prevalence of XP in South Korea was 0.3 per million people. Conclusion: We expect that c.390-1G>C is hot spot for the mutation of XPA and possible founder variant in South Korea. However, the prevalence in South Korea was extremely low compared with Western countries and Japan.

  • In order to determine temporal changes of the urban landscape, interdependence and interaction among geo-spatial objects can be analyzed using GIS analytic methods. In this study, to investigate changes in the landscape structure of the Namyangju area, the size and shape of landscape patches, and the distance between the patches were analyzed with the Spatial Autocorrelation Method. In addition, both global and local spatial autocorrelation analyses were conducted. The results of global Moran's I revealed that both patch size and shape index transformed to a more dispersed pattern over time. Next, the local Moran's I of patch size in all time series determined that almost all patches were of a high-low pattern. Meanwhile, the local Moran's I of the shape index was found to have changed from a high-high pattern to a high-low pattern in time series. Finally, as time passes, the number of hot spot patches about size and shape index had been decreased according to the results of hot spot analysis. These changes appeared around the development projects in the study area. From the results of this study, degradation of landscape patches in Namyangju were ascertained and their specific areas were delineated. Such results can be used as useful data in selecting areas for conservation and for preparing plans and strategies in environmental restoration.

  • T-joint and hopper knuckle joint models are typical welded joints in ship structure, which are very susceptible to fatigue damage under service condition. Fatigue test and fracture mechanical analysis were performed on these joints to find out characteristics of fatigue behavior. Unified S-N curve was developed from the test results of these two types of joint using hot spot stress concept, and also propagation life was also estimated using Paris' crack propagation law. Residual stress effect on propagation life was considered in calculating propagation life, as was done with thermo-elasto-plastic FE analysis and residual stress intensity factor calculation. Fatigue life of similar kinds of welded joint could be predicted with this unified S-N curve and fracture mechanical analysis technique.
