This work investigates the relationships between the static mechanical properties of Ti-6Al-4V manufactured through selective laser melting (SLM) and post-process heat treatments, namely stress relieve, annealing and hot isostatic pressing (HIP). In particular, Ti-6Al-4V parts were fabricated in three different build orientations of X, Z, and $45^{\circ}$ to investigate the multi-directional mechanical properties. The results showed that fully densified Ti-6Al-4V parts with densities of up to 99.5% were obtained with optimized SLM parameters. The microstructure of stress relieved and mill annealed samples was dominated by fine ${\alpha}^{\prime}$ martensitic needles. After HIP treatment, the martensite structure was fully transformed into ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ phases (${\alpha}+{\beta}$ lamellar). Within the realm of tensile properties, the yield and ultimate strength values were found statistically similar with respect to the built orientation for a given heat treatment. However, the ductility was found orientation dependent for the HIP samples, where a lower value was observed for samples built in the X direction.
Zirconia has excellent mechanical properties, such as high fracture toughness, wear resistance, and flexural strength, which make it a candidate for application in bead mills as milling media as well as a variety of components. In addition, enhanced mechanical properties can be attained by adding oxide or non-oxide dispersing particles to zirconia ceramics. In this study, the densification and mechanical properties of YSZ-TiC ceramic composites with different TiC contents and sintering temperatures are investigated. YSZ - x vol.% TiC (x=10, 20, 30) system is selected as compositions of interest. The mixed powders are sintered using hot pressing (HP) at different temperatures of 1300, 1400, and 1500℃. The densification behavior and mechanical properties of sintered ceramics, such as hardness and fracture toughness, are examined.

This study explores the profound impact of varying oxygen content on microstructural and mechanical properties in specimens HO and LO. The higher oxygen concentration in specimen HO is found to significantly influence alpha lath sizes, resulting in a size of 0.5-1 ㎛, contrasting with the 1-1.5 ㎛ size observed in specimen LO. Pore fraction, governed by oxygen concentration, is high in specimen HO, registering a value of 0.11%, whereas specimen LO exhibits a lower pore fraction (0.02%). Varied pore types in each specimen further underscore the role of oxygen concentration in shaping microstructural morphology. Despite these microstructural variations, the average hardness remains consistent at ~370 HV. This study emphasizes the pivotal role of oxygen content in influencing microstructural features, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of the intricate interplay between elemental composition and material properties.
This research was carried out to examine the properties of black charcoal board, in order to find the proper manufacturing condition for the black charcoal-board made of the charcoal. The charcoal in this study was distillated from domestic wood waste, and it were also the purpose of this study to see if the black charcoal-board has the advantageous properties of charcoal as a well-being building material against the sick house problem. Domestic wood waste was consisted of MDF 40%, PB 30%, plywood 15% and wood 15%, respectively. Black charcoal board was produced by hot pressing with following conditions; temperature $170^{\circ}C$, three stage pressing cycle of $40-10-40\;kgf/cm^2$(1min.-2.5min.-5min.) and non formaldehyde adhesives [P15%+M5%:MDI(M), poly vinyl acetate emulsion(P). Fine mixed particle size [#6-12(16.9%), #12-18(16.7%), #12-40(47.2%), #40-60(9.5%), #60-100(5.9%), less than #100(3.8%)] gave better results than larger particle size [over #6(33.8%), #12-18(17.7%), #12-40(37.7%), #40-60(6.4%), #60-100(2.6%), less than #100(1.8%)]. Final moisture content of the mat was best at 36%. Black charcoal-board showed less MOR and IB(internal bond), more WA(water absorption) than that of white charcoal-board. Black charcoal board showed not only the same gas adsorption and dimensional stability as white charcoal board but also good cutting, nailing and drilling for indoor environment systems.

Two kind of $\beta$-SiC powders of different particle sizes (${\sim}1.7\;{\mu}m$ and ${\sim}30\;nm$), containing 7 wt% $Y_2O_3$, 2 wt% $Al_2O_3$ and 1 wt% MgO as sintering additives, were prepared by hot pressing at $1800^{\circ}C$ for 1 h under applied pressures, and then were hot-forged at $1950^{\circ}C$ for 6 h under 40 MPa in argon. All the hot-pressed specimens consisted of equiaxed grains and were developed grain growth after hot-forging. The smaller starting powder was developed the finer microstructure. The microstructures on the surfaces parallel and perpendicular to the pressing direction of the hot-forged SiC were similar to each other, and no texture development was observed because of the lack of massive $\beta$ to $\sigma$ phase transformation of SiC. The fracture toughness (${\sim}3.9\;MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$), hardness (~ 25.2 GPa) and flexural strength (480 MPa) of hot-forged SiC using larger starting powder were higher than those of the other.
Tetragonal ZrO2 polycrystal (TZP), consisted of 90.24 mol% ZrO2-5.31 mol% Y2O3-4.45 mol% Nb2O5, were prepared using hot-press and mechanical properties and high-temperature degradation were investigated. The specimen, hot-pressed for 1 h at 140$0^{\circ}C$ in Ar atmosphere, exhibited flexural strength of 1010 MPa and fracture toughness of 7.5 MPam1/2 and experienced no low-temperature degradation below 40$0^{\circ}C$. However, as aged for 100h at temperatures higher than 40$0^{\circ}C$, TZP was suffered by high-temperature degradation due to an extensive cavitation caused by the oxidation of carbon. XPS observation revealed that the carbon incorporated in TZPs during hot-pressing exists as either an ether-type CO or a carbonyl-type C=O. Despite of the high-temperature degradation of t-ZrO2 co-doped with Y2O3 and Nb2O5, its flexural strength and fracture toughness were superior to those of the commercial 3 mol% Y2O3-TZP hot-pressed under the identical condition as determined before and after the aging treatments.

The hot press farming process, which is the press hardening of steel parts using cold dies, can utilize both ease of shaping and high strength due to the hardening effect of rapid quenching during the pressing. In this study, a thermo-elastoplastic analysis of the hot press forming process using the finite element method was performed in order to investigate the deformation behavior and temperature history during the process and the mechanical properties of the pressed parts.
High purity alumina has been extracted form low grade Korean alunite. Alunite ore was treated by 15% $NH_4OH$ solution, followed by 10% $H_2SO_4$ leaching and metallic impurities such as Fe and Ti were removed by solvent extraction method. Alumina prepared by the extraction process was 99.9% in purity. Hot Petroleum Drying Method has been employed for the preparation of uniformly fine alumina powder, using chemical reagent aluminum sulfate and ammonium aluminum sulfate extrated from Korea alunite. The sinterability of alumina powder prepared by Hot Petroleum Drying Method was shown to be improved in comparison with the one treated by other methods such as ball milling method, but dry pressing was difficult due to the agglomeration of calcined powder. The best slip of alumina powder prepared by Hot Petroleum Drying Method contained a lower soild content than the one treated by other methods. The alumina body formed by soild and drain casting with the former alumina powder showed a higher sintered density.
Mechanical properties of hot-pressed SiC whisker/Al2O3 composites were strongly dependent on the granular characteristics of mixed powder, which were controlled by co-dispersion condition, the existence of steric barrier on whisker surface, and granulating method, etc. Heat-treatment of SiC whiskers at $700^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr in air was very effective both for achieving dispersion stability of whiskers with PVA adsorption and for obtaining excellent mechanical properties of resulting composites. It is believed from the fractography of composites prepared with various whisker dispersion conditions that the most common fracture origin of Al2O3 agglomerate could be attributed to whisker clusters arising due to flocculation. Further improvement of mechanical properties of composites were achieved by hot pressing green tapes prepared by Doctor-blade process, which promoted two-dimensional random alignment of whiskers.
Alumina($Al_2O_3$)-Titanium Diboride($TiB_2) particulate composites were fabricated by hot pressing of the powder mixture that was prepared from Self-propagating High Temperature Synthesis (SHS) product and commercial powders. Their propeties were examined in order to find feasibility of using SHS for making the high performance ceramic composite. $TiB_2 particles obtained by grinding the SHS product were finer than the commercial powders. Hot pressed sample containing the SHS products exhibited higher strength than the one prepared from the commercial powders.
