This study was conducted to evaluate the spirituality, perceived meaning in life, hospice perception, and attitudes towards terminal care among nursing students, as well as to identify the relationships between variables and examine factors influencing their attitudes towards terminal care. Data were collected using a self-reported questionnaire completed by 308 nursing students at two universities from April 11, 2017 to April 17, 2017. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, a t-test, Pearson's correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression with the SPSS/Win 14.0 program. Attitudes toward terminal care among nursing students were significantly correlated with hospice perception(r=0.30, p<0.001) and meaning in life(r=0.30, p<0.001). Meaning in life among nursing students was significantly correlated with hospice perception(r=0.25, p<0.01) and spirituality(r=0.53, p<0.01). The significant predictors of the attitudes towards terminal care in nursing students were hospice perception(${\beta}=0.40$, p<0.001) and meaning in life(${\beta}=0.27$, p<0.001). Hospice perception explained 22.7% and meaning in life explained 5.0% of the variance. These variables explained 27.7% of the variance in attitudes toward terminal care. Overall, these findings suggest that the terminal care education program, including hospice perception and meaning in life, is necessary to enhance the positive attitude toward terminal care among nursing students.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate pediatric nurses' perception and knowledge about pediatric hospice and palliative care. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted with 132 nurses who are stationed in pediatric wards and intensive care units. The participants were requested to fill out a questionnaire comprising 23 items for perception and 20 items for knowledge. Data were collected after obtaining written consent. Data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0. Results: Participants perceived difficulties in pediatric hospice palliative care, especially communication with patients and their families. The differences of perception among participants were observed according to pediatric hospice and palliative care experience, but not general characteristics. Participants' knowledge was $8.83{\pm}2.64$. Nurses who work in a ward showed higher level of knowledge about pediatric hospice/palliative care. Conclusion: An education program should be developed and provided to pediatric nurses to improve their perception and knowledge about pediatric hospice/palliative care.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to provide baseline data for the development of an educational program for hospice care for college students. Methods: A survey was conducted at three universities in B city with 143 students from September 5, 2014 through September 26, 2014. The data were analyzed by the SPSS 18 program. This study was approved by IRB. Results: The college students' spiritual well-being was at a medium level. Their attitudes to death were neutral, and perception of hospice care was at a medium level. Most of the participants (93.0%) had no training in hospice care. The participants' awareness of the purpose of hospice care was at a relatively high level. Their awareness of the need for hospice care was at a moderate level. The participants' spiritual well-being and their attitudes to death showed a weak but positive correlation (r=0.179, P=0.030). The relationship between their spiritual well-being and awareness of hospice care were positively correlated (r=0.203, P=0.015). Conclusion: The participants' perception of hospice care was low. Most of them had no experience of hospice care education. Also, the higher the spiritual stability was, the higher the participants' perception of the purpose and the necessity of hospice care was. And their perception of the hospice care varied depending on their family relationship, satisfaction with school life, and cognition of hospice care. Therefore, we need consider these variables to develop a hospice education program to enhance college students' attitudes to death and their perception of hospice care.
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to identify hospice volunteers' perception of the death. Methods : This study was conducted with 327 adults who registered for the hospice volunteer education program in Severance Hospice Center from 1996 through 1999. The 4-years data was collected through a self-reporting questionnaire constructed and revised by the authors. The questionnaire was classified into 5 categories. The data collected were analyzed using SPSS/W. Results : 1) Hospice volunteers were mostly female(93.9%) with an average age of 48 years. The majority(82.6%) of the participants were Protestant. 2) From the 4-years data over 90 percent of participants thought of death as a process of life and responded positively to these three items : 'Death is a temporary separation from family', 'I will die in peace', 'Faith in God results in a freedom from fear of death'. 3) Age were statistically relevant to the following items: 'I often read the obituaries in the newspaper', 'Dying is a tragedy', and 6 items were significantly related to religion: 'I rarely think of dying unexpectedly', 'Death is a temporary separation from family'. 'Dying is a tragedy', 'We have to do our best to prolong life by use of modem medical technology', 'I feel comfortable thinking of death and dying, 'Faith in God results in a freedom from fear of death'. The finding that religiosity was related to perception of death is consistent with other reports. And $40{\sim}50$ year old Protestant women had more positive perception of death than $20{\sim}30$ year old women. Conclusion : The findings indicated an importance of considering the age and religiosity when we educate the hospice volunteers. And that will be a important basic-data to develope program for hospice volunteers.
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of perception on hospice among nursing students on terminal care attitude and to find out the mediating effect of spiritual wellbeing in their relationships. To achieve the purpose of the study, 344 nursing students were surveyed and the results were analyzed using SPSS 21 and AMOS 21. As a result of the study, first, it was found that the terminal care attitude of nursing students had a positive correlation with both perception on hospice and spiritual wellbeing. Second, as a result of analyzing considering all the variables affecting terminal care attitude, Both the research model and the structural model were found to have very goodness of fit. Finally, it was found that perception on hospice had a positive effect on the terminal care attitude of nursing students, and spiritual wellbeing had a mediating effect in their relationship. Based on these results, this study aims to present implications for the effective nursing of hospice in nursing students.

This study, a non-equal prior and post quasi-experimental research on a control group, investigates the nursing students' change of perception on the meaning of life, death, well-dying and hospice in order to elucidate its effect. The study subjects were 38 students registered in the Department of Nursing Science in C University located in A city as the experimental group and another 36 students registered in the Department of Nursing Science in P University in P city as the control group. Death preparation education was conducted from February 29 through April 20, 2016. A 90-minute session was conducted each week for eight weeks and the data were analyzed by $x^2-test$ and t-test. In line with four domains of death education, i.e., cognition, emotion, practice and value, death preparation education was composed by imparting meaning to life and focusing on the perception on death, well-dying and hospice. From the study results, death preparation education enhanced nursing students' perception on the meaning of life, well-dying and hospice, and hence helped nursing students grant meaning to their lives and establish right values of life. Thus, it acted as a driving force for nursing students to live positive lives and is expected to be utilized as useful education which cultivates right perception on well-dying and hospice. However, in the absence of any significant difference in perception of death, repeated follow-up studies are required to verify the effect on the perception on death and the change in the perception of well-dying depending on the period of application.
Purpose: This study aimed to identify how an education program on palliative care affects nursing home caregivers' perception of hospice care and attitude towards terminally ill patient care. Methods: This study was conducted using a nonequivalent control group with a pretest-posttest design. The participants were 101 certified care workers: 58 in the experimental group and 43 in the control. The experimental group completed the palliative care education program consisted of 20 hours of classroom training and 20 hours of clinical practicum. An ANCOVA was performed to compare the score changes to outcome variables. Results: Compared with the control group, the experimental group showed significant pretest-posttest differences in both the perception of hospice care (F=21.09, P<0.001) and attitude towards caring for terminally ill patients (F=13.28, P<0.001). Conclusion: These results indicate that the palliative care education program for caregivers is effective in preparing participants to provide hospice/palliative care service. Further study is warranted to explore the effects of this program on palliative caregivers' performance.
