  • There have been always some difficulties in target setting and conditioning of acoustic performances of the Korean traditional music hall due mainly to the lack of the information on the sound radiation characteristics of Korean musical sources. In this study, the radiation characteristics of four typical Korean traditional musical sources were investigated in precision and their usage was demonstrated: The selected musical sources were Gayageum (string), Daegeum (woodwind), Jango (drum), and Pansori Chang (vocal performance). Each sound source was located at the center of a semi-anechoic chamber and the directivity was determined by the measured sound pressure levels in every 10° angular position, for both vertical and horizontal directions. The directivity pattern of Gayageum varies from a uniform to a complex pattern having many side lobes with the increase of frequency. The main radiation of Daegeum is toward the upward direction. The directivity pattern of Jango is clearly a side-oriented one and the left direction intensity is sharper than its right side at low frequencies. For the Chang, the directivity pattern change from a uniform pattern to a frontally directed one as the frequency goes high. Measured directional and spectral characteristics of traditional Korean music sources were implemented into the computation of architectural acoustic measures for the Busan National Korean Traditional Music Hall which is under construction. Parameters such as RT, SPL, C80, IE, STI were calculated at two receiver positions by using a ray tracing technique. Significant differences in the acoustic measures at receiver positions were observed between the results in using the omni-directional source and the directional one. It is thought that the suggested source data and design method can be used as a basic reference in the future acoustic design of performance halls for the Korean traditional music.

  • Network RTK is widely used especially for static applications so far, however, the demand for high accuracy positioning for kinetic users such as land vehicles is growing for safety and convenience reasons. Kinematic users move along the roads and the network where they receive corrections can be changed. Compact Network RTK corrections should keep consistency while network change. In this paper, we introduced a method of generating Compact Network RTK corrections considering network ambiguity level adjustment by formulation of corrections. We verified the proposed method for reference station networks across whole country. We also generated Compact Network RTK corrections using simulation and real GPS data from reference stations in South Korea and evaluated performance of users. As a result, the discontinuity between corrections from two networks reduced to 0.25 cycle from several cycles. And user could achieve less than 8 cm (2DRMS) horizontal position accuracy continuously regardless of network change.

  • Ground penetrating radar (GPR) experiments were performed in a sand tank to study the ability of detection of buried pipes and to characterize the signal of the reflection wave. The ratios of diameter of buried pipes to the depth were set 4 up to 24 % and materials were metal, synthetic resin, and wood. In case of groundwater table below buried materials, strong reflection signals were observed irrespective of diameter and depth except for wood. While it is very difficult to detect the reflection signals in case that the groundwater table is set to higher than buried materials. The reflection signals from the bottom of the sand tank, however, were clearly observed even in case of higher groundwater table. This implies that the weak reflection signals from the buried materials are not all due to the wave attenuation. The vertical reflection profiling method is recommended in case that the object of the survey is to find horizontal position of buried material because this method has the advantage in cost and time of survey. However, the full or partial CMP gather method is recommended in case that the objects of the survey are to get the detailed subsurface information, i.e. the depth to buried material, interval velocity of geological layer, and mapping the groundwater table.

  • Lateral cephalograms or 251 males md 286 females were taken and pubertal growth pattern or cranial base, maxillary and mandible of 7 to 17 years old Korean children was evaluated. 10 landmarks and 16 analytical measurements were evaluated. Analytical measurement and annual difference for each age group was calculated and tested for statistical significance. Analytical measurements were classified into three groups which were cranial base, maxillary and mandibular measurements and also classified into make and female measurements. Following results were achieved. 1. The circumpuberal growth spurt was earlier in Korean females than in males. 2. Cranial base, maxilla and mandible showed circumpuberal growth. The cranial base showed a relatively smaller amount of growth than the facial complex. 3. Middle and posterior cranial base length showed a floater increase than anterior cranial base length and circumpuberal growth spurt was also more definite. 4. the forward and downward growth or maxilla results from maxillary growht itself and transposition or the maxilla due to circumsutural growth aroud the maxilla. Ar-ANS and Ar-Pr which represent maxillary position relative to the cranial base showed more growth than ANS-PNS which represents maxillary bone growth. 5. mandible showed more vertical growth than horizontal growth but without significance. 6. Alveolar gwoth of maxilla and mandible show maximum growth rate of the time of permanent teeth eruption following loss of deciduous teeth . After this period alveolar growth shows a decreasing tendency.

  • In digital imaging system, Bayer pattern is widely used and the observed image is degraded by optical blur during image acquisition process. Generally, demosaicing and deblurring process are separately performed in order to convert a blurred Bayer image to a high resolution color image. However, the demosaicing process often generates visible artifacts such as zipper effect and Moire artifacts when performing interpolation across edge direction in Bayer pattern image. These artifacts are emphasized by the deblurring process. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes a deblurring algorithm combined with edge directional color demosaicing method. The proposed method is consisted of interpolation step and region classification step. Interpolation and deblurring are simultaneously performed according to horizontal and vertical directions, respectively during the interpolation step. In the region classification step, characteristics of local regions are determined at each pixel position and the directionally obtained values are region adaptively fused. Also, the proposed method uses blur model based on wave optics and deblurring filter is calculated by using estimated characteristics of local regions. The simulation results show that the proposed deblurring algorithm prevents the boosting of artifacts and outperforms conventional approaches in both objective and subjective terms.

  • PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to provide an actual guideline in determining the shape, diameter, and position of the implant in immediate implantation by the measurement of the thickness of facial and palatal plate, the thickness of cortical bone on the facial and palatal plate, the diameter of the root, and the distance between the roots in the cadavers. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The horizontal sections of 20 maxillae were measured and analyzed to obtain the average values. Resin blocks were produced and cut serially at 1 mm intervals from the cervical line to the root apex. Images of each section were obtained and the following measurements were performed: The thickness of the facial and palatal residual bone at each root surface, the thickness of the facial and palatal cortical bone at the interdental region, the diameter of all roots of each section on the faciopalatal and mesiodistal diameter, and the interroot distance. Three specimens with measurements close to the average values were chosen and 3-dimensional images were reconstructed. RESULTS. The thickness of the facial and palatal cortical bone at the interdental region in the maxilla, the buccal cortical bone was thicker in the posterior region compared to the anterior region. The interroot distance of the alveolar bone thickness between the roots increased from anterior to posterior region and from coronal to apical in the maxilla. CONCLUSION. In this study, the limited results of the morphometric analysis of the alveolar ridge using the sections of maxilla in the cadavers may offer the useful information when planning and selecting optimal implant for immediate implantation in the maxilla.

  • In general, orthodontists make problem lists and treatment plans based on norms of several cephalometric standards. But consideration of dentoalveolar compensation, which tends to maintain normal dental arch relationship in various skeletal jaw relationships, helps orthodontists make more individualized treatment objectives and plans. The purpose of this study was to classify skeletal patterns of normal occlusion samples by cluster analysis and to investigate the dentoalveolar compensation according to skeletal patterns. The subjects were consisted of 125 subjects who were normal occlusion samples at Seoul National University Dental Hospital, Department of Orthodontics. Lateral cephalograms in centric occlusion were traced and digitized. The skeletal patterns of normal occlusion samples were classified into three horizontal groups and three vertical groups by cluster analysis and ANOVA on the skeletal and dentoalveolar measurements among the groups were carried out. The results were as follows ; 1. Anteroposterior and vertical skeletal relationships of normal occlusion samples were very variable. 2. As the mandibular position was anterior to the maxilla, the maxillary incisors inclined more labially, the mandibular incisors more lingually, and the occlusal plane was flattened due to the anteroposterior dentoalveolar compensation. dentoalveolar height was decreased and upper posterior teeth was uprighted to the palatal plane and lower incisors and lower posterior teeth to the mandibular plane. 4. Lower incisors were more strongly associated with the dentoalveolar compensation than upper incisors according to the anteroposterior and vertical skeletal relationship.

  • In order to simulate a typhoon precisely, the satellite observation data has been assimilated using WRF (Weather Research and Forecasting model) three-Dimensional Variational (3DVAR) data assimilation system. The observation data used in 3DVAR was GPS Radio Occultation (GPS-RO) data which is loaded on Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite. The refractivity of Earth is deduced by temperature, pressure, and water vapor. GPS-RO data can be obtained with this refractivity when the satellite passes the limb position with respect to its original orbit. In this paper, two typhoon cases were simulated to examine the characteristics of data assimilation. One had been occurred in the Western Pacific from 16 to 25 October, 2015, and the other had affected Korean Peninsula from 22 to 29 August, 2012. In the simulation results, the typhoon track between background (BGR) and assimilation (3DV) run were significantly different when the track appeared to be rapidly change. The surface wind speed showed large difference for the long forecasting time because the GPS-RO data contained much information in the upper level, and it took a time to impact on the surface wind. Along with the modified typhoon track, the differences in the horizontal distribution of accumulated rain rate was remarkable with the range of -600~500 mm. During 7 days, we estimated the characteristics between daily assimilated simulation (3DV) and initial time assimilation (3DV_7). Because 3DV_7 demonstrated the accurate track of typhoon and its meteorological variables, the differences in two experiments have found to be insignificant. Using observed rain rate data at 79 surface observatories, the statistical analysis has been carried on for the evaluation of quantitative improvement. Although all experiments showed underestimated rain amount because of low model resolution (27 km), the reduced Mean Bias and Root-Mean-Square Error were found to be 2.92 mm and 4.53 mm, respectively.

  • In patients who used removable partial dentures for a long period of time, gradual alveolar bone resorption occurs in edentulous area. However, in residual teeth area, alveolar bone is maintained sound. This causes an imbalance in intermaxillary distance between a maxillae and a mandible which is intensified due to expansion in vertical and horizontal bone amount difference between the two area as time passes. As the result, this shows a substantial difference in vertical position according to the period of teeth loss even after residual teeth loss. As in this situation, a patient with bilaterally and anterio-posteriorly different intermaxillary distance, various prosthodontic problems can be caused in fixed implant prosthodontics and implant overdenture. This study shows a case in which implant-supported removable partial denture was fabricated considering residual alveolar bone height after teeth loss in a patient who had been using a distal extension removable partial denture for a long period of time. In anterior area with short intermaxillary distance, fixed prosthodontics were fabricated with implant placement and in posterior area with long intermaxillary distance, a removable partial denture was fabricated. Finally, a small number of implants were placed without additional surgery and economical and comfortable treatment results were shown.

  • This study was conducted to find out the evidence of a sex attraction in the fall webworm moths, Hyphantria cunea D., in the fold conditions. The study dealt with the sex attraction between the sexes, selection of effective trap type, effect of moth age on the sex attractiveness, sex attractiveness after copulation, and the time of the sex attraction in the day, The trap was baited with a living moth in the cylindrical screened case 4cm. in long and 2.7cm in diameter. The traps were attached on the tree in a horizontal position at the height of about 3m. on the ground. A sex pheromone was evident in the female moth which attracted the male to the lure, and the modified sticky trap was most effective in this experiment. The trap consisted of a cylindrical powder milk can 11.5cm. in long and 10cm. in diameter with the entry hole 4.8cm, in diameter at both ends of the can, and the inside of can was lined with paper coated with acri-soil(sodium poliacrilate) to catch them. Males were mostly attracted to females during their first 2 days of life, and its attractiveness decreased with moth age, No males were attracted to females more than five days old, and no females lived for more than six days. After copulation, sexual attractiveness was decreased swiftly, Sexual attractiveness was found to be greatest between 4 and 6 A.M. Living females can be used as effective baits for luring the males to the fold trapt.
