This study explores the effect of extensive reading(ER) implemented in middle and high schools in Korean EFL context. Two middle school English teachers and two high school English teachers participated in implementing ER in their classes. Six middle school classes of 239 students and seven high school classes of 268 students participated in ER program guided by the above four teachers. To implement ER, participating teachers had continuously been guided by the researcher about the theoretic reasoning of ER and practical methods for efficient ER in class. The study lasted for two semesters and the teachers and students were surveyed and interviewed during and after the classes. The result showed pretty positive improvement of students' self-confidence, interest and motivation about English through ER implemented in this study. It is hoped that this study would show the possibility of implementing ER in Korean EFL secondary school context and a model for ER and cooperation between university researchers and in-service English teachers.
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the self-expression level of dental hygiene students related to communicative competence and their stress during clinical practice and what affected their stress. The subjects in this study were 125 dental hygiene students in W college, on whom a survey was conducted from September 18 through 30, 2006. After the collected data were analyzed with SPSS WIN 10.0 program, the following findings were acquired: 1. When a factor analysis was made to evaluate the self-expression of the students, there appeared three different categories of self-expression: voice/content, facial expression/attitude and sentiment. The three made a 58.1% prediction of their self-expression. As for overall reliability, they turned out highly reliable(Cronbach'a = .881). 2. The dental hygiene students got a mean of 3.58 out of possible five points in self-expression, which indicated that they expressed themselves relatively well. Concerning connections between their general characteristics and self-expression level, those who were inactive during clinical practice got a mean of 3.28, whereas the others who were active got a mean of 3.85. It implied that those who took a more active attitude to clinical practice expressed themselves better(p < .01). The person with whom they found it hard to get along made a statistically significant difference to their self-expression(p < .05). The students who didn't fare well with dental hygienists got the best score(3.70). The second best group(3.53) didn't get along with dentists, followed by assistant nurses(3.46) and patients/caregivers(3.31). As for the impact of the field of dream job, the students who hoped to work or study overseas(4.21) excelled in self-expression those who wanted to be hired in a general hospital, to go onto a school of higher grade and to work in a public dental clinic(p < .05). Among the general characteristics, satisfaction level with major, health status and motivation of choosing dental hygiene made no statistically significant differences to their self-expression. 3. Regarding relations between self-expression level and stress about clinical practice, those who didn't express themselves properly in terms of sentiment scored higher in stress level(3.65). Their stress was statistically significantly different according to self-expression level (p < .05). 4. As for the influence of self-expression and general characteristics on stress with clinical practice, sentiment was selected from among the self-expression categories as a decisive factor to affect stress. Their stress varied statistically significantly with that(p < .05). In contrast, their demographic variables made no statistically significant difference to that, which made a 79.2% prediction of it.
This study was conducted on the 4 year university students majoring in the culinary practice to survey the recognition levels of the culinary practice education with the purpose of searching for a development plan of the culinary education. The recognition levels of the culinary practice education according to the types of sex, grade and alma mater are as follows. The interest and necessity of the culinary practice education was very high while the performance degree of the culinary practice education was felt insufficient. For the efficient culinary practice education, they recognized that theoretical education and practice demonstrations are required and hoped to focus on hotel cooking and certified technician cooking. In addition, they hoped to be provided with a place for teacher's detailed practice demonstrations and supplementary practice. According to the variables, positive responses were given from male students, high grade students and vocational school students. In conclusion, if chances are given to display achievement desire self-directly through increasing practical training, development and application of various programs, operation of open practice classes and culinary organization reflecting social changes in the education courses, the culinary practice education is considered to be more vitalized.

Methods: In-depth interviews was conducted with 7 participants with CAD post percutaneous coronary intervention. Main question was 'what is your experiences with MBSR?' Colaizzi's seven steps of phenomenological analysis was used for eliciting embedded meanings. Results: Five theme clusters were found; rediscovery of mindfulness meditation, obtaining self-control for stress management, self-worth, feeling of happiness, and looking into myself. Conclusion: This study provides a profound picture on the experiences of mindfulness meditation among participants with coronary artery disease. Results : 1. As for general characteristics of respondents, those under 19 years of age constituted 46.6%; the unmarried comprised 85.8%; and students constituted 53.4%. 2. Most respondents were getting orthodontic therapy for beauty (41.8%) and dental health (40.5%). Family (54.3%) contributed to their decision to get orthodontic therapy; parents or siblings (62.5%) were bearing the treatment expenses. 3. Females were getting orthodontic therapy for an aesthetic purpose (50.3%), and male for the purpose of dental health (44.6%) (P<0.01). 4. OHIP was slightly higher among males ($4.10{\pm}0.61$) than among female ($4.00{\pm}0.78$), and was highest among those 19 years old and under ($4.17{\pm}0.67$); the older they were, the lower it was significantly (P<0.05). Most of them were earning 3 to 4 million won ($4.22{\pm}0.72$); the married ($4.05{\pm}0.74$) constituted higher percentage. As for occupation, students ($4.13{\pm}0.66$) comprised the highest percentage. 5. Self-esteem was higher among males ($3.83{\pm}0.47$) than among females ($3.80{\pm}0.50$), and was highest among those 25 to 29 years old ($3.92{\pm}0.46$). Most of them were earning more than 5 million won ($3.91{\pm}0.42$), which was statistically significant (P<0.01). The married ($3.91{\pm}0.54$) constituted higher percentage than the unmarried ($3.80{\pm}0.48$); office managers ($3.95{\pm}0.55$) comprised the highest percentage. 6. As for correlation between variables effecting OHIP of orthodontic patients, there was negative correlation in age (r=-0.225) and positive correlation in occupation (r=0.122). As for correlation between variables effecting self-esteem of orthodontic patients, there was negative correlation in occupation (r=-0.130) and positive correlation n income (0.126), while there was positive correlation (r=0.202) between OHIP and self-esteem of orthodontic patients. Conclusions : Younger orthodontic patients who were students showed higher OHIP, and professionals earning more showed higher self-esteem. Orthodontic patients with higher OHIP showed higher self-esteem. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a program based on OHIP and self-esteem in consulting and treating orthodontic patients; since it is considered that orthodontic therapy will improve appearance, enhance self-confidence, and have positive effects on interpersonal relationships and quality of living, researches are necessary on constant changes in psychological properties.
