  • The control of electrical appliances residing in the home network can be accomplished via Internet with the UPnP expansion without modifying an existing UPnP. In this paper, we propose the Internet Gateway that consists of an UPnP IGD(Internet Gateway Device) DCP(Device Control Protocol) and an UPnP Bridge as a system to control electrical appliances of home network. UPnP IGD DCP is to enable the configurable initiation and sharing of Internet connections as well as assuring advanced connection-management features and management of host configuration service. It also supports transparent Internet access by non-UPnP-certified devices. UPnP Bridge searches for local home network devices by sending control messages, while control point of UPnP Bridge looks up devices of interest on the Internet, subsequently furnishing the inter-networking controlling among devices which belong to different home network systems. With our approach, devices on one home network can control home electrical appliances on the other hone network via Internet through IGD DCP with control commands of UPnP.

  • Ubiquitous home refers not only to home but also to logical space, including a wide range of out-home personal devices such as mobile phones, PDAs, laptops, car navigators, and office PCs. There are certain connection barriers among the devices, such as the dynamic IP address, NAT. In a home network, various devices coexist in heterogeneous networks, such as IP, IEEE1394, PLC, Bluetooth, ZigBee, UWB, and IrDA, all of which lack interoperability due to their different physical transmission characteristics and protocols. In ubiquitous home where an unrestricted collaboration of the devices is essential to offer services that meet the users' requirements, free interoperability among the devices must be guaranteed. This paper proposes a networking model for interoperability of the heterogeneous devices in a ubiquitous home based on a virtual overlay network which hides the complicated physical network configurations and heterogeneity of the service protocols.

We collected data from school district offices in the nation and questionaries to 37 high school teachers in charge of vocational home economics, 30 teachers in charge of vocational course, 305 students of vocational school, and 135 students on vocational course for the recognition of and request for vocational home economics curriculum. Collected data were analysed by frequency, percentage, and X(sup)2, and SPSS/PC(sup)+ program are used for the statistical analysis. Followings are the outcomes of this study. 1. The number of classes in which vocational home economics is operated has been on the rise since 1986. As for curriculum of vocational high school, 79 classes for clothing, tourism, and childhood education are being operated in 8 schools. 2. Teachers acknowledge vocational training should keep complete and sustaining education and that it should aim ar conduction education which enables students to acquire technical knowledge and to seek a gob. Both teachers and students admit vocational home economics should be carried out so that vocational training can be combined with general education. 3. Teachers put more emphasis on its major field than that general field. As for laboratory classes, teachers complained about the financial lack, while students need for field practice for the purpose of opening the way for combing theory with practice and proposing for scientific study of industrial sites. As for the contents, students considered the technical course size appropriate and they though it is desirable that the ratio of practical class should be increased by more than 60% of that of the current class ratio.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate and analyze adolescents'problems, thereby to provide fundamental information for Preventive Education for Adolescents'Problems in Home Economic Education. For the data, 269 counselling cases about adolescents ere collected at C counselling center in Seoul, from January to July, 1997. The data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, and χ²test using the SPSS/PC+computer program. The most important results and implications of this study were as follows ; 1. The Preventive Education for Adolescents'Problems need to be programmed incorporating 'sex', 'family relationship', 'personality', 'delinquency', 'friendship', 'future plan', 'studying' and 'violence'. 2. Adolescents, whether they were students or workers, requested counseling regarding the matters of 'sex'in the general basis, while parents and teachers requested counseling with regard to the adolescents'problems of 'family relationships'and 'delinquency'. This implied that there was a perceptual difference in the adolescents'problems between adolescents and their parents or teachers. Therefore, 'communications'and 'conflict resolution'need to be included in the program. 3. There were more suggestions for a desirable preventive program : 'cooperative society'need to be emphasized ; financial, administrative and policy supports form schools and authorities are needed ; program building should be facilitated through the cooperation between the researchers in universities and the secondary school teachers in the field.
