In this study, antioxidative potentials of the crude extract and its four solvent fractions from the Arctic terrestrial plant Ranunculus heperporeus were evaluated by using four different activity tests, including the inhibition of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) and lipid peroxidation in Raw 264.7 cells as well as determining the extent of both the scavenging of peroxynitrite ($ONOO^-$) and the oxidative damage of genomic DNA purified from Raw 264.7 cells. Based on a comparative analysis, n-BuOH, and 85% aq.MeOH solvent fractions showed good scavenging effects on the production of intracellcular ROS and inhibited membrane lipid peroxidation and DNA oxidation. In addition, n-BuOH and 85% aq.MeOH fractions exhibited good scavenging effects on both authentic peroxynitrite and one generated from SIN-1. Among the samples tested, the n-BuOH fraction revealed the strongest antioxidant effect.

This study inquired into changes of turbidity of a river depending on the rainfall characteristics of each month through investigating the water quantity and turbidity of Jawoonchun drainage basin in the upper reaches of Soyangho (lake) for the year of 2005. It could be seen from the study that high turbidity occurred during the period from May to August due to rainfall intensity and rainfall duration. On the other hand, it could be confirmed that turbidity was constantly low after September because of early cleansing effect of rainfall. Next, the influence of controlling factors of turbidity was looked into. For May and June, it was 89% rainfall intensity among the controlling factors, for July and August, it was 67% rainfall intensity and 32% rainfall duration that was confirmed to have influence over the occurrence of turbidity. In addition, regression analysis was carried out about the controlling factors that had influence over the occurrence of turbidity and regression equation was suggested.
Weekly monitoring of discharge and water quality in forested and agricultural subcatchments were performed to understand the difference of water quality caused by land uses in Doegwollyong area. Correlations between water quality variables including discharge were analyzed for the same purpose. There was little variation of water Quality in forested subcatchment. On the other hand, the range of water quality variation in agricultural subcatchment was wide due to soil loss and the application of chemical fertilizers and livestock manure. Dissolved oxygen(DO) had strong negative correlation with discharge in both subcatchments. Total nitrogen(T-N) and potassium ion(K$^{+}$) had stronger positive correlation with discharge in forested subacatchment than in agricultural one. On the other hand, total suspended sediments(TSS), total phosphorus(T-P), and chemical oxygen demand(COD) had stronger correlation with discharge in agricultural subcatchment than in forested one. As water pollution of the Doam Lake, especially the increase of T-P is serious, soil conservation is very important to improve water quality. In particular, the loss of soil and nutrients from late June till early July were more serious than any other seasons, therefore it is necessary to apply environmentally sustainable methods of cultivation.n.

Single seeds of common buckwheat cultivar Suwon No. 1 when subjected to SDS-PAGE revealed very high polymorphism. High variation existed for protein or protein subunits with molecular weight 54-47kDa, 45-25kDa and 16-11kDa. The electrophoregram showed variation for globulin as well as other protein fractions. About 300 proteins were separated by two-dimensional electrophoresis in common buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench.) seed. Seed maturation is a dynamic and temporally regulated phase of seed development that determines the composition of storage proteins reserves in mature seeds. Buckwheat seeds from 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 days after pollination and matured stage were used for the analysis. This led to the establishment of high-resolution proteome reference maps, expression profiles of 48 spots. It was identified 48 proteins from MALDI-TOF/MS analysis of wild buckwheat seed storage proteins. The 48 proteins were found identical or similar to those of proteins reported in buckwheat and other plants; it is belonging to 9 major functional categories including seed storage proteins, stress/defense response, protein synthesis, photosynthesis, allergy proteins, amino acid, enzyme, metabolism, and miscellaneous. It appears that the major allergenic storage protein separated played the important role in buckwheat breeding and biochemical characterization.

To facilitate the introgression of F. esculentum into the traits of F. homotropicum, several accessions of the hybrids between these two species were pollinated with F. esculentum as the recurrent parent. The embryo in vitro rescue was performed to increase the recovery of backcross progenies. The $F_{2}$ generation was more amenable than $F_{1}$ hybrids to produce backcross progenies. The $F_{1}$ hybrids were backcrossed twice with common buckwheat (pin-type F. esculentum) (recurrent backcrossing). Also, alternate backcrosses with common buckwheat and F. homotropicum (congruity backcrossing) were carried out. Pollen tube growth of BC$F_{1}$${\times}$ F. esculentum (thrum) and F. homotropicum ${\times}$ BC$F_{1}$ was the disturbed penetration exceeded for all initial interspecific hybrids, and its requirement was proportionally lower when the common buckwheat was used as the recurrent parent and as the last parent of congruity hybrids. Effects of both common buckwheat and F. homotropicum on seed success rate for hybridization were observed. Growth of hybrid embryos before rescue, regeneration of mature hybrids all increased recurrent and congruity backcrosses and inter-crosses between $F_{1}$ plants and selected fertile plants of the second congruity backcrosses.

The experiments were carried out in open experimental field of Field Crops Research Institute, Hai Duong, Vietnam in Winter Spring seasons 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 for finding high yielding of Korean chipping potato varieties which are adaptable to Vietnam condition. Six varieties of Korean potato (G1, G2, G4, G10, B1, B2) were experimented. The control variety (G6) was Atlantic which has long been a standard chip variety. The results showed that, for a hill, there was positive correlation between number of stems and number of tubers. The hill yield also showed highly relation to the plant height and number of tubers. Even though the growth and yield of potatoes grown in the season 2016-2017 were significant higher than these of potatoes grown in the season 2015-2016, their percentages of tubers infected by scab disease were much higher. This is probably because of irregular soil moisture content at the tuber forming duration. While G1, G6 and B1 are white flesh varieties, the remaining are yellow flesh varieties. There are two shapes types among experimented varieties: oblong (G1, G10, B1) and round shape (G2, G4, G6, B2). The total yields of varieties G1, G2, B1, B2 were higher than the total yield of the control variety from 16.5-49.4% in the season 2015-2016 and from 39.8-75.6% in the season 2016-2017.
The Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model users tend to use the readily available input dataset, such as the Ministry of Environment (MOE) land cover data ignoring temporal and spatial changes in land cover. The SWAT model was calibrated and validated with this land cover data. The EI values were 0.79 and 0.85 for streamflow calibration and validation, respectively. The EI were 0.79 and 0.86 for sediment calibration and validation, respectively. With newly prepared landcover dataset for the Doam-dam watershed, the SWAT model better predicts hydrologic and sediment behaviors. The number of HRUs with new land cover data increased by 70.2% compared with that with the MOE land cover, indicating better representation of small-sized agricultural field boundaries. The SWAT estimated annual average sediment yield with the MOE land cover data was 61.8 ton/ha/year for the Doam-dam watershed, while 36.2 ton/ha/year (70.7% difference) of annual sediment yield with new land cover data. Especially the most significant difference in estimated sediment yield was 548.0% for the subwatershed #2. Therefore it is recommended that one needs to carefully validate land cover for the study watershed for accurate hydrologic and sediment simulation with the SWAT model.
This research was conducted to investigate the incidence of viral infection in Samcheok-shi and Jeongseon-gun, main garlic growing areas of Gangwon province in Korea. Four primers sets (GLV, LYSV, GCLV, OYDV) were used for RT-PCR to test of 100 samples collected from each location. Infection rates of GLV, LYSV, GCLV and OYDV of garlic samples from Samcheok-shi and Jeongseon-gun were 95, 95, 92 and 33%, respectively. All garlic samples tested in this research were infected at least one virus. Coinfection of 3 kinds of virus (GLV, LYSV and GCLV) and 4 kinds of virus (GLV, LYSV, GCLV and OYDV) were 60 and 25%, respectively. While infections of GLV, LYSV and GCLV were evenly found in both two regions, OYDV infection of garlic samples collected from Jeongseon-gun was higher than Samcheok-shi. Viral infections at garlic fields of whole country and Gangwon province are very serious now. Therefore, it is very necessary to develop technic for virus-free bulb and renew seed bulb of garlic.
During visiting North Korea from 2001 to 2005, I have had a few chances to observe and discuss several North Korean scientists for the seed production program and also, the occurrence of potato pests. Healthy seed production, especially in the early generations, e.g. the production of virus-free starting materials as well as in vitro pre-basic seeds (G0) by hydroponics and basic seeds under netted houses according to her new national seed potato program of Academy of Agricultural Science, Pyongyang, North Korea, has been done well so far. Some major pests occurred, however, in the early generations such as pre-basic seed (G0) in greenhouse, basic seed (G1) in screenhouse, foundation seed-I (G2) and even ware potatoes in the fields are Phytopitthora infestans, Spongospora subterrunea, Ralstonia solanacearum, Pythium spp. and some viruses such as Potato virus X, Potato virus Y, Potato leafroll virus, and also larger potato ladybeetle, greenhouse whitefly and potato tuber moth. Therefore, the success of healthy seed production in North Korea will be thoroughly depended on the pest control and the multiplication of virus-free seed stocks in the isolated areas, especially where no infected potatoes are grown.
