High strength concretes utilizing EVA with micro particles were prepared by varying polymer/binder mass ratio and curing conditions with a constant water/binder mass ratio of 0.3. The EVA modified concretes on the compressive and flexural strength, microstructure, ultrapulse modulus in curing condition(dry and water curing) were studied. Also, scanning electron microscope analysis(SEM) was performed to reveal the presence of polymer film and cement hydrates in the concrete. The compressive strength of the EVA modified concretes cured at water conditions ere higher than that of the EVA modified concretes cured at dry conditions. But, the flexural strength of the specimens cured at dry conditions were higher than that of the specimens cured at water conditions. Due to the interaction of the cement hydrates and polymer film, an interpenetrating network originated in which the aggregates were embedded. The curing of the polymer modified concrete involves two step of cement hydrates and polymer modification, and cement hydrates was promoted in water conditions and polymer film formation take place when water evaporates and was thereby was favored in dry conditions. By SEM analysis, influences of polymer modification was strengthening of the transition zone between the aggregate and the paste, and the porosity of transition zone decreases. By spring analysis, it could known that polymer film affects in porosity decrease and strengthening of transition zone.
Lightweight aggregate is a porous material that has a lower density than natural aggregate and is a lightweight construction material. Lightweight Aggregate has a suitable purpose because it is effective in reducing the heavy unit mass in high-rise buildings. However, since lightweight aggregate has weak strength and high water absorption compared to natural aggregate, it is difficult to control the quality of concrete. Although lightweight aggregate has disadvantages such as high water absorption, it is expected that the demand for lightweight aggregate concrete will continue to use in the future because the advantage of being able to reduce the weight of concrete is greater. In this study, we conducted an experimantal study on the compressive strength property of cement matrix according to the type of lightweight aggregate.
EVA Powder modified high strength concretes were prepared by varying polymer/binder mass ratio with a constant water/binder mass ratio of 0.3. The effect of EVA powder on the slump, hydration heat, compressive and flexural strength, toughness and water absorption ratio was studied. In hydration heat test, temperature of hydration reaction displayed almost fixed level regardless of containing rate of EVA powder, but peak time of hydration reaction displayed late inclination as containing rate of powder increases. With the same water/binder mass ratio, the compressive strength and water absorption of EVA powder modified concretes decreased slightly when EVA powder was added and the flexural strength of EVA powder modified concretes rised slightly when EVA powder was added. Also, the toughness of the modified concretes can be improved markedly. The interpenetrating structure between the polymeric phase and cement hydrates formed at a $2{\sim}6%$(containing rate of EVA powder). The properties of the polymer modified concretes were influenced by the polymer film, cement hydrates and the combined structure between the organic and inorganic phases.
In this study, the temperature history and compressive strength of the concretes according to the type of cement were measured and analyzed in comparison as part of the experiment on the material mixing side to reduce the hydration heat crack of the mat foundation constructed with mass concrete. As a result, the peak temperature and maximum temperature reach time of concrete using high rapid cement were shown to be similar to that of semi rapid cement. In particular, in compressive strength after three days, semi rapid cement was measured higher than that of concrete using high rapid cement. Therefore, if semi rapid cement is used in accordance with the site conditions, it is deemed possible to shorten the air due to reduction of temperature cracks and improvement of initial strength.
The heat of hydration of cement causes the intemal temperature rise at early age, particulay in massive concrete structures. As the results of the temperature rise and restraint condition, the thermal stress amy induce cracks in concrete. The prediction of the thermal stress is very important in design and consturction slages in order to control the cracks in mass concrete. In this study, the temperature rise of high strength concrete due to the heat of hydration is investigated. Test variables are type and content of binder. As the results, the temperature rise is imcreased with increasing cement content. However, the increament is decreased in higher cement comtnet range. Fly ash is effictive in the reduction of hydration heat.
In order to develop concrete generating compressive strength of 10MPa~15MPa aging for 6hours in the room temperature curing, Hardening accelerator containing Ca2+ mixed with rapid hardening portland cement containing C3S in quantity. The result was that the more addictive contents of Hardening accelerator is, the more greatly early compressive strength was improved. That's because the composition of Ca(OH)2 was mass-produced at early-ages.
Recently, a structure has been large and high under the improvement of construction technique. So, mass concrete constructions that a mat foundation thickness of structure is over 80cm have been many. Also, in the reason of high strength of concrete, a matter of thermal crack became an important task to be solved. In this study, we executed temperature and stress analysis of mat foundation. And we evaluated quantitatively about the possibility of thermal crack by using hydration heat analysis program. Because of this analysis technique, we could control skilfully the quality of mat foundation in a construction.
Synthetic lightweight aggregates are manufactured with recycled plastic and fly ash with 12 percent carbon. Nominal maximum-size aggregates of 9.5mm were produced with fly ash contents of 0 percent, 35 percent, and 80 percent by total mass of the aggregate. An expanded day lightweight aggregate and a normal-weight aggregate were used as comparison. Mechanical properties of the concrete determined included density, compressive strength, elastic modulus, and splitting tensile strength. Compressive and tensile strengths were lower for the synthetic aggregates; however, comparable fracture properties were obtained. Relatively low compressive modulus of elasticity was found for concretes with the synthetic lightweight aggregate, although high ductility was also obtained. As fly ash content of the synthetic lightweight aggregate increased, all properties of the concrete were improved.
