  • Since the braking system of rolling stock is directly linked to it's safety, ensuring reliability of braking system and evaluation of performance of it are very important. To develope the performance of braking system, it is required advanced technology and gradually various factors in the field test result. This study is designed to analyze the air pressure control about braking force in rolling stock, also, by comparing braking force of high speed railway with that of high speed train. This paper suggests to establish a method of computation of braking force form the air pressure control. And The high speed train researches into patterns of braking system such as the train of speed up and introduction of electric and pneumatic braking system.

  • Pantograph of high speed rolling stock is one of the key components that transfer of associated technologies was blocked fundamentally from advanced nations. In this study, main technologies related to development of prototype pantograph installed on prototype test train developed according to the project "Development of high speed railway technology" are presented. Status of current korean technologies is explained by presenting developed technologies and applications during the past 6 years from concept design to test and evaluation.

  • Republic of korea has begun operating high speed train service according as KTX service operation starts in 2004. Also, EMU whose maximum speed is over 150 kph will be starting to service with electrification and improvement of existing railroad. Moreover, metropolitan electric railways have begun an express service to increase scheduled speed. Therefore, running resistance of rolling stock becomes more important factor effects on the performance. Running resistance of rolling stock is the factor which is necessary for the performance or operation plan of rolling stock, and it's related to rolling friction, slip friction, drag force, gradient, acceleration, curvature, tunnel condition and so on. It is possible to be calculated by CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics). However it is predicted by experimental equation from running resistance test because of the complex calculation and manifold variables. In this paper, studies about running resistance of rolling stock is introduced, and each term of experimental equation is studied through theoretical approximation. Also, running resistance of rolling stock is estimated by the result of running resistance test, and effects being related to friction, drag force, gradient is examined.

  • As RAMS becomes an international trend in the railroad industry, it is also generalized in the domestic railroad industry. This research is performed to present a criterion of the RAMS plan for the next generation high speed rolling stock. The criterion is developed based on IEC62278(EN50126), the international standard for railroad RAMS and CLC/TR 50126-2, 3, the guide to the application of IEC 62278. It is necessary for the export of the rolling stock. The criterion describes the RAMS targets and the contents to be included in the RAMS plan to meet the RAMS targets. Through developing the RAMS plan, we can identify RAMS activities and documents to be done in the total life cycle which includes design, manufacture and operation. It will help to accomplish synthetically the system targets of the next generation high speed rolling stock.

Properties of De/Anti-icing Fluid for High Speed Railway Rolling Stock Based on Propylene-glycol Containing Water Repellent Agent (발수 성분을 포함하는 프로필렌글리콜(PG) 기반 고속철도차량용 제·방빙액의 특성)

  • As a chemical de-icing method, propylene glycol de-icing fluid is applicable for melting ice caused by snow and ice adhering to the lower part of high-speed rail rolling stock and bogie parts in winter. By spraying propylene-glycol de-icing fluid on high-speed rail rolling stock and bogie parts in advance to minimize snow adhesion, ice-melting efficiency can be further improved. In the case of high-speed rail rolling stock, even if propylene-glycol de-icing fluid is sprayed, the anti-icing performance is poor because the fluid is almost lost on the surface of the vehicle when operating at high speed. In this study, in order to prevent freezing caused by snow and ice adhering to the lower part of high-speed rail rolling stock and bogie parts, we have investigated the properties of propylene-glycol de/anti-icing fluid containing water-repellent agents that prevent surface freezing. We tried to find the optimal component for de/anti-icing fluid for high-speed rail rolling stock by evaluating the ice melting performance, contact angle, and anti-icing performance according to the types of water-repellent agent. As a result of the evaluation, it was confirmed that an de/anti-icing fluid containing an ethoxysilane-type water repellent agent was most suitable.

Ice Melting Capacity Evaluation of Applicable Materials of De-icing Fluid for High Speed Railway Rolling Stock (고속철도차량용 제빙액으로의 적용가능물질에 대한 융빙성능 평가)

  • In winter season, the snow and ice accretion on the bottom of the high speed railway rolling stock and boogie part has fallen at a high speed from the ballast section (gravel section for the transmission of the rolling stock load received by sleepers and fixing sleepers), causing the gravel to be scattered, thereby damaging the railway rolling stock structures and facilities. In order to solve these problems, the gravel scattering prevention net, manual de-icing, and movable hot air machine were used, but their efficiency was low. For the more efficient de-icing than ever before, an optimum material for de-icing fluid for high speed railway rolling stock was developed by evaluating the ice melting capacity, kinematic viscosity, evaporation of the material used as a chemical de-icing fluid. Four kinds of organic acid salts (sodium formate, sodium acetate, potassium formate and potassium acetate) and two different alcohols (propylene glycol, glycerol) were used as evaluation materials. Potassium formate, potassium acetate, and propylene glycol had similar ice melting capacities in the indoor test, but the propylene glycol showed the best ice melting capacity in spraying the system simulation test. This is because the kinematic viscosity of propylene glycol was 2.989029 St, which is higher than those of other materials therefore, it could stay longer on the ice and de-icing. In addition, potassium formate and potassium acetate were difficult to be used since the crystals precipitated and adversely affected the appearance of the rolling stock. The propylene glycol is the most optimum as an de-icing fluid for the high speed railway rolling stock.

  • As a supply contract for 100 new high-speed rolling stocks(KTX-II) was made 8th June 2006, System Engineering process has been applied to introduce the high-speed rolling stocks successfully and to manage the total life cycle systematically from Pre-concept Phase, Contract Phase, Preliminary and Critical Design Review, Production, Test and Verification, Acceptance and Operation to assurance for a flaw.

  • Currently, it has been a fashion to include RAMS of rolling stock in the order for purchasing the rolling stock. However, it's only to suggest a qualitative value or an ideal target without giving or demonstrating actual RAMS target, with only demonstrating passive RAMS by the data provided by the manufacturer. In the case of KTX project of 100 cars of KTX-II contracted in June 2006, their target has been suggested from the previous RAMS application standard and it aimed to achieve the reliability level of equivalent high speed rolling stock. Afterward, as actual KTX-II RAMS Plan and RAMS Demonstration Plan has been prepared and approved, it has been the first problem to secure the reliability and safety in order to introduce the new high speed rolling stock(KTX-II) successfully and we actually tried to apply overseas RAMS standard, KTX samples, electric railcar MTRC and rolling stock samples. This Report was dealt world trends of Railway RAMS standard, KTX-II RAMS Specifications, the present condition of KTX-II RAMS performance and development a way of KTX-II RAMS, We hope the "KTX-II RAMS Application Standard for Safety of Passenger Transportation Service" is served as an opportunity for the basic research for establishing and demonstrating RAMS target of components or parts composing the rolling stock system.
