  • This paper presents dynamics of register error on a compensator roll type converting machine. Though a register control is an important aspect of a converting machine, it has not been taken into account as a main subject. Lately, demands for high speed converting machines over 500mpm(m/min) are raising but domestic converting industries can not come up with the high speed machines because capacities fur designing of the converting machine is restricted lower than 300mpm. Moreover register control is the key to product flexible displays through roll-to-roll systems. In this paper, a compensator roll type register controller is analyzed using mathematical model of register error. A case study for reducing transient register errors is discussed.

  • Dancer systems are most widely used mechanism for attenuation of tension disturbances. Lately, demands fur high speed converting machines over 500mpm(m/min) are raising but domestic converting industries can not come up with the machines because capacities for a designing of the converting machine are restricted lower than 300mpm. Moreover roll-to-roll is attracted flexible display manufacturer's attention as a effective method for productivity. A constant tension level in the span before the first printing cylinder is the key of high speed quality printing. This paper presents a modeling and simulations of dancer systems on converting machines.

  • In the case of long-stator linear drives, unlike rotative drives for which speed or position sensors are a single unit attached to the shaft, these sensors extend along the guideway. The position signal transmitted from maglev vehicle can't meet the need of the real-time propulsion control. In this paper the position estimator for propulsion inverter driving long stator linear synchronous motor (LSLSM) in high speed maglev train is proposed. In order to get the higher resolution of the position information transmitted from vehicle, Full order state observer is proposed for position estimator.

  • In Case of High speed PM machines with surface-mounted magnet. A rare-earth PM with high remanence flux density is used on the rotor. Therefore, It is very difficult to adhesion and assemble PM on the surface of rotor, because of very repulsive force between magnets. So, for solving this problem, rotor with surface-mounted magnet is wholly magnetized after mounting magnetic-material on the surface. In this paper, In order to Magnetize rotor with surface-mounted PM, magnetizing machine is designed, analyzed and simulated for large PM machines using the 1dimensional analytical method and 2dimensional finite element method. • The swirling flow developing in Francis turbine draft tube under part load operation leads to pressure fluctuations usually in the range of 0.2 to 0.4 times the runner rotational frequency resulting from the so-called vortex breakdown. For low cavitation number, the flow features a cavitation vortex rope animated with precession motion. Under given conditions, these pressure fluctuations may lead to undesirable pressure fluctuations in the entire hydraulic system and also produce active power oscillations. For the upper part load range, between 0.7 and 0.85 times the best efficiency discharge, pressure fluctuations may appear in a higher frequency range of 2 to 4 times the runner rotational speed and feature modulations with vortex rope precession. It has been pointed out that for this particular operating point, the vortex rope features elliptical cross section and is animated of a self-rotation. This paper presents an experimental investigation focusing on this peculiar phenomenon, defined as the upper part load vortex rope. The experimental investigation is carried out on a high specific speed Francis turbine scale model installed on a test rig of the EPFL Laboratory for Hydraulic Machines. The selected operating point corresponds to a discharge of 0.83 times the best efficiency discharge. Observations of the cavitation vortex carried out with high speed camera have been recorded and synchronized with pressure fluctuations measurements at the draft tube cone. First, the vortex rope self rotation frequency is evidenced and the related frequency is deduced. Then, the influence of the sigma cavitation number on vortex rope shape and pressure fluctuations is presented. The waterfall diagram of the pressure fluctuations evidences resonance effects with the hydraulic circuit. The influence of outlet bubble cavitation and air injection is also investigated for low cavitation number. The time evolution of the vortex rope volume is compared with pressure fluctuations time evolution using image processing. Finally, the influence of the Froude number on the vortex rope shape and the associated pressure fluctuations is analyzed by varying the rotational speed.

  • This paper presents an estimation procedure for axial displacement in spindle equipped with angular contact ball bearings due to rotational speed. High-speed spindle-bearing system experiences axial displacement due to thermal expansion and rotational speed-dependent characteristics of angular contact ball bearings. This paper deals with the axial displacement caused by the rotational speed-dependent effects such as centrifugal force and gyroscopic moments. To this end, a bearing dynamic model is established that includes all the static and dynamic properties of angular contact ball bearing. An analytical formula to calculate the axial displacement based on contact angles between ball and races is derived to discuss the physics regarding the axial displacement in spindle. The proposed dynamic model is compared with a reference and a commercial program. Numerical examples are presented to show the effects of centrifugal force and gyroscopic moment on the axial displacement. The proposed model is also validated with an experimental result.

  • Modern electric controlled valves are demanded that its solenoid actuator should be smaller size, lighter weight, lower consumption power, and higher response time. For achieving these purposes, the major design factors of solenoid actuator such as magnetic flux density, coil turn numbers, plunger size, bobbin dimension, and etc. are must be optimized. In this study, for optimal design of high speed solenoid actuator for hydraulic servo valve operation, we draw up governing equations which are composed by combination of electromagnetic theories and empirical knowledge, and deduct the values of major design factors by use of them. For more increase the operating speed, voice coil are used as main armature in manufacturing of prototype actuator. And, we have proven the propriety of the governing equations and speed increasing method by experiments using the hydraulic valve assembly adopted the prototype of solenoid actuator.

  • This paper deals with the method to calculate the rotor eddy current losses of permanent magnet high-speed machines considering the effects of time/space flux harmonics. The flux harmonics caused by the slot geometry in the stator is calculated from the time variation of the magnetic field distribution obtained by the magneto-static finite element analysis and double Fast Fourier Transform. And, using the analytical approach considering the multiple flux harmonics and the Poynting vector, the rotor losses is evaluated in each rotor composite. Using this method is simple and workable for any kind of stator slot shape for rotor loss analysis.

  • This paper introduces the high efficiency operation of switched reluctance generator (SRG). The proposed SRG operates under the rated speed. The high efficiency can be obtained by the optimal current shape which can make the total losses minimum. For this purpose, theoretical analysis of the copper and core loss is done. In addition, a modified angle position control (MAPC) method which can get the optimal current shape over wide speed condition is presented. In order to verity the theory, the experimental platform is set up. The feasibility of the theory is verified by the simulation and experimental results. The proposed method is simple, reliable and easy to achieve.

  • Stability of high-speed roll-to-roll printing machines is one of the most important factors that are required for the printing machines to operate properly and to obtain reasonable printing performance. This paper proposes a new model for the web-tension system of a high-speed gravure printing machine considering span-length variations due to dancer rollers, and analyzes the stability of plant dynamics of the printing machine using the proposed model. Span-length variations due to dancer motions are considered for the modeling of plant dynamics in two ways; one is to include the effect of span-length variations without considering dancer inertias and viscous frictions, and the other is to include the effect of span-length variations with considering dancer inertias and viscous frictions. The stability of the plant model is analyzed for various web-speeds using the eigenvalues of the linearized model about operating points.
