This study was to examine the differences of behavioral characteristics between scientifically gifted students and ordinary students. The subjects were 40 scientifically gifted students (27 males and 13 females) and 38 ordinary students (21 males and 17 females). The study specifically analyzed the several characteristics including logical thinking, science process skills, creativity, earth science creativity, self-directed learning, and cognitive style. The results were as follows; First, while 94.74% of scientifically gifted students reached the formal stage, only 36.36% of ordinary students reached it in logical thinking. Second, scientifically gifted students gained higher scores than ordinary students did in science process skills (average 8.11), creativity (average 8.27), earth science creativity (average 6.73), scientific attitude (average 10.79), self-directed learning (average 21.60). Third, 70% of scientifically gifted students and 60.53% of ordinary students showed to have the characteristics of field independent thinking. These results implied that the behavioral characteristics of scientifically gifted students should be included in science gifted education for the pursuit of the essential gifted education and maximization of its efficiency.
Water is essential for life and plain water instead of sugar-sweetened beverages is one approach for decreasing energy intake. Due to limited data on characteristics associated with water intake among Korean adolescents, this study examined associations of demographic and behavioral characteristics with plain water intake by using nationally representative sample of South Korean adolescents. The data (2007-2010 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey) for 1,288 high school-aged adolescents (15-18 years) were used. Multivariable logistic regression was used to calculate adjusted odds ratios (OR) for factors associated with low water intake (< 4 cups/day) and very low water intake (< 2.5 cups/day). Nationwide, 38.4% and 19.0% of adolescents reported drinking water < 4.0 cups/day and < 2.5 cups/day, respectively. The mean plain water intake was 5.7 cups/day for males and 4.1 cups/day for females. Females had significantly higher odds for drinking water < 2.5 cups/day (OR = 2.2) than males, whereas adolescents with low milk consumption had significantly lower odds for drinking water < 2.5 cups/day (OR = 0.7). Factors significantly associated with a greater odds for drinking water < 4 cups/daywere being female (OR = 2.8) and not meeting physical activity recommendations (${\geq}20$ min/day on < 3 days/week) (OR = 1.6). Being underweight, overweight, and obese were significantly associated with reduced odds for drinking water < 4 cups/day (OR = 0.7, 0.4 and 0.5, respectively). However, intake of soda, coffee drinks, fruits, vegetables, and sodium and eating out were not significantly associated with low or very low water intake. These findings may be used to target intervention efforts to increase plain water intake as part of a healty lifestyle.
This study investigates drinking attitudes and behaviors of university students. The sample included 355 students living in Busan, Korea. The questionnaire addressed general background information (gender, age, grade and monthly pocket money), drinking attitudes (understanding the effects of alcohol on the body, stereotype of drink, age at the first drink, the drinking companion at the first drink, reasons for starting to drink, main drinking companions, major reasons for drinking, the history of drinking alone, and reasons for drinking alone), drinking behaviors (the cost of each drinking occasion, drinking amounts, the frequency of drinking, the frequency of heavy drinking, the type of alcoholic beverage, and the places of drinking). A few respondents (both male and female students) started drinking while in high school (p<0.05), and most respondents drank with friends (males: 91.0%, female: 92.2%). The main reasons for drinking were the mood for male student (46.3%) and relationships for female student (49.1%) (p<0.05). Male respondents consumed more than seven glasses of soju (39.9%), whereas female respondents, five to seven glasses (49.7%) (p<0.05). On average, the respondents drank one to two times a week (males: 47.9%, females: 51.5%) and experienced heavy drinking one to three times every three months (males: 19.1%, females: 21.0%) (p<.05). The results suggest that students with frequent alcohol consumption and heavy alcohol dependence are likely to face problems and thus require aggressive intervention strategies that target them specifically.

This study developed an ideal jeggings pattern with an improved body fit for 20-24 year old females. The results of the study are as follows. First, samples for wearing test were made using jegging patterns from three manufacturers; subsequently, one pattern with a relatively outstanding body fit was selected from the first test. The selected pattern suggested a tight knee, belly, and crotch, high front waist line, and low back waist line. The side lines were also lean to the front; consequently, the front hip width was extended for 0.5cm for more space around the belly and the extended front knee part for 0.2cm to increase moving suitability to fix the leaning side lines. A 1cm front waist line was extended for 0.5cm to fix it lower; in addition, the back waist line 3.0cm was extended for 0.5cm to heighten it. The crotch width was also extended for 0.5cm to add more space. The second wearing test for the fixed forms were evaluated for their outstanding features in appearance as well as moving functions that were proposed as final jeggings forms. The results of the study suggested a jeggings pattern with a better body fit using manufacturer patterns that can be used as basic data for pant patterns with better fitting using various stretch fabrics.
This study was carried out to evaluate the phsicochemical, rheological and sensory characteristics of the restructured pork jerky with the addition of sliced cheese(4, 8 and 12%). The TC-1, TC-2 and TC-3 samples had lower moisture contents than the control, Crude protein and fat contents were significantly difference among all treatment (p<0.05). The crude ash and salinity values of TC-1, TC-2 and TC-3 were higher than the control. With the addition of sliced cheese(l2%), the manufacturing yield and water absorption ability were high among all the different treatments, but the control showed significantly higher values than TC-1, TC-2 and TC-3. The pH ranged from 5.62-6.01 in all treatments and the TC-3 sample had the highest pH, The water activity range was 0.70 - 0.74, and the various treatments had slightly higher than the control. The hardness of the TC-3( J 2%) treatment was the lowest among all the treatment. The strength values increased according to increases in sliced cheese, but there were no significant differences(p>0.05). The sensory evaluation for color and flavor received the highest scores in working males 6.96(TC-2) and student males 7.50(TC-2), respectively. The texture scores ranged from 7.07-7.63 and were the highest of all sensory evaluation factors, For overall acceptance the highest scores were received from student males(TC-3), student females(TC-2), working males(TC-2) and working females(TC-l), respectively.
This study identifies influential factors in regards to the purchase of celebrity fashion hot items and compares these factors in the age groups of teens and twenties. This study surveyed male and female consumers aged 10-20 years old for empirical analysis in July 2018. The study surveyed 322 consumers selected through online convenience sampling. Data were analyzed using SPSS for Windows 19.0, descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, ${\chi}^2$ analysis, regression analysis, ANOVA analysis, Duncan test, and t-test. The results were as follows. First, 87.6% of consumer have purchased celebrity fashion hot items more than once. In particular, female consumers in their 20s with a high fashion product expenditure tend to purchase more celebrity fashion hot items. Clothes and shoes were purchased more by 10-year-old males, shoes for males in their 20s, accessories for 10-year-old females female, and bags and accessories for female in their 20s. Second, there were no significant differences for those aged 10-20 years old in purchase satisfaction for celebrity fashion hot items according to age, gender, income, and fashion product expenditure. Consumers' awareness on corporate marketing intention to celebrity fashion hot items was higher among women in their 20s than men in their teens and twenties; in addition, the expenditure on fashion products also increased. Third, factors affecting the purchase of celebrity fashion hot items among teens and twenties were different according to age and gender. A higher need for identification for teenage male resulted in: lower media dependency, higher product involvement, fashion conformity, fashion innovativeness for 20s males, higher product involvement for 10s and 20s females, increased intention to purchase tended. This study provides consumer information and fashion item information that can be utilized in advertisement and promotion strategies for fashion companies that seek to perform celebrity marketing strategies that target consumers aged 10-20 years old.
This study explored epidemiological trends in trichomoniasis in Daegu, South Korea. Wet mount microscopy, PCR, and multiplex PCR were used to test for Trichomonas vaginalis in vaginal swab samples obtained from 621 women visiting 2 clinics in Daegu. Of the 621 women tested, microscopy detected T. vaginalis in 4 (0.6%) patients, PCR detected T. vaginalis in 19 (3.0%) patients, and multiplex PCR detected T. vaginalis in 12 (1.9%) patients. Testing via PCR demonstrated high sensitivity and high negative predictive value for T. vaginalis. Among the 19 women who tested positive for T. vaginalis according to PCR, 94.7% (18/19) reported vaginal signs and symptoms. Notably, more than 50% of T. vaginalis infections occurred in females younger than 30 years old, and 58% were unmarried. Multiplex PCR, which simultaneously detects pathogens from various sexually transmitted infections, revealed that 91.7% (11/12) of patients were infected with 2 or more pathogens. Mycoplasma hominis was the most prevalent co-infection pathogen with T. vaginalis, followed by Ureaplasma urealyticum and Chlamydia trachomatis. Our results indicate that PCR and multiplex PCR are the most sensitive tools for T. vaginalis diagnosis, rather than microscopy which has been routinely used to detect T. vaginalis infections in South Korea. Therefore, clinicians should take note of the high prevalence of T. vaginalis infections among adolescent and young women in order to prevent persistent infection and transmission of this disease.

This study was performed to analyze the secondary students' perceptions and self-efficacy of performance assessments in the science subject. The data was obtained from 236 middle school students and 222 high school students in seoul. The students had generally proper understanding about characteristics of performance assessment which include purposes of assessment and differences from other conventional achievement assessments. They responded that the performance assessments were not useful in their science learning and developing their potential abilities. They were not satisfied with reliability and validity of the performance assessments. The middle school students more positively responded than high school students regarding the reliability of the scoring system and the originality of the evaluating materials. The female students more positively thought than males about the reliability of assessment and the usefulness for learning science. The students' self-efficacy level of performance assessment were not low in comparison with another existing assessments. They had high level of self-efficacy in understanding of experimental procedures, and utilizing of experimental apparatuses, but had low level of self-efficacy in understanding purposes of experiments or issues of discussions, processing of experimental results, answering of problems in experimental discussions. The female students' self-efficacy of performance assessment were higher than male students'. There was statistically correlated with females' scores and their level of self-efficacy of performance assessment.
This study investigates the effect of adolescent dining habits on their physical development. We selected 200 students from the three high schools in Taejon, and surveyed with a questionnaire and collected data concerning physique from school health records. The results obtained from this study were as follows: 1. A point of intersection of two development trends of male and female students' heights was between sixth grade of elementary school and first grade of middle school. Two development trends of weights didn't have a point of intersection and male students' development trend of weights was a little higher than that of female students. 2. There were significant differences in the weight and BMI of male students. The 'regular dining' group had heavier weight and higher BMI than the other group, and the 'Eating only favorite food' group had lower weight and BMI than the other group. In female, heights of 'three meals a day' group were higher than that of 'two meals a day' group and the more snacks per day, the higher students' height was. 3. The 'regular exercise' group had significantly heavier weight and higher BMI than the other group amount females. 4. 'Regular dining' and 'Eating habits' had a positive linear relationship with male students' weight and BMI. 'Number of times of snacking' has a positive linear relationships with female students' height and a negative linear relationship with female students' BMI. Since dining habits of adolescents have not only an effect on their development but also later adults' health, to develop good habits of health and dining is a critical issue.
The purpose of this study is to inspect the use possibility of DAS as a depression assessment tool for middle school students by finding out their depression tendency and DAS characteristics. For this purpose, I have found out explored the differences between depression and aggression of in middle school students in accordance with sex and grade, and also found a relationship between DAS response characteristics, and the level of depression and aggression. The subjects of this study were 600 middle school students in Pusan and Kyungnam, and the tools used in this study were Silver's Draw-a-Story and Beck's depression scale and aggression scale. The results were analyzed two-way ANOVA analysis, Duncan test, correlation analysis and crosstab analysis. The results of this study are as follows. The depression level of the 9th grade students was higher than that of 7th grade students. And the aggression level of males was higher than in females, and higher in 8th graders than in 7th graders. The emotion content scores and the self-image scores were related to depression and aggression. So when the levels of depression and aggression were high, the emotional response of DAS and the self-image response were negative. Through this study, it is suggested that DAS has the power of discrimination as a tool measuring depression state and that DAS is meaningful because it showed it can be used as a tool for estimating the level of depression state of school students in schools.
