Evaluation of Thermal Shock Damage of Metal Matrix Composite Using Ultasonics (초음파를 이용한 금속기지 복합재료의 열충격 손상 평가)

  • Metal matrix composites(MMCs) have been rapidly becoming one of the strongest candidates for structural materials fur many high temperature application. However, among the various high temperature environments in which metal matrix composites was applied, thermal shock is known to cause significant degradation in most MMC system. Due to the appreciable difference in coefficient of thermal expansion(CTE) between reinforcement and metal matrix, internal stresses are generated following temperature changes. Infernal stresses affect degradation of mechanical properties of MMC by causing microscopic damage in interface and matrix during thermal cycling. Therefore, the nondestructive evaluation on thermal shock damage behavior of SiC/A16061 composite has been carried out using ultrasonics. For this study, SiC fiber reinforced metal matrix composite specimens fabricated by a squeeze casting technique were thermally cycled in the temperature range 298$\~$673 K up to 1000cyc1es. Three point bending test was conducted to investigate the efffct of thermal shock damage on mechanical properties. The relationship between thermal shock damage behavior and the propagation characteristics of surface wave and SH-ultrasonic wave was discussed by considering the result of SEM observation of fracture surface.

  • Dimethyl Ether(DME) engine use a highly efficient alternative fuel having a great quantity of oxygen and has a advantage no polluting PM gas. The existing DME fuel cam material is a highly expensive carbide alloy, and it is difficult to take a price advantage. Therefore the study of replacing body area with inexpensive steel material excluding piston shoe and contact area which demands high characteristics is needed. The development of WC-Ni base carbide alloy optimal bonding composition technique was accomplished in this study. To check out the influence of bonding temperature and time, bonding characteristics of sintering temperature was experimented. The hardness of specimen and bonding rate were measured using ultrasound equipment. The bonding state of each condition was excellent, and the thickness of mid-layer, temperature and maintaining time were measured. The mid-layer thickness according to bonding temperature and maintaining time were observed with optical microscope. We analyzed the micro-structural analysis, formation of bonding specimen, wafer fabrication and fuel cam abrasion test. Throughout this study, we confirmed that the fuel cam for DME engine which demands high durability against velocity and pressure is excellent.

A Study on Fire Performance of HPC Column with Fiber Cocktail in KS Fire Curve under Loading Condition (표준화재 재하조건에서 Fiber Cocktail을 혼입한 고강도 콘크리트 기둥의 강도별 화재거동에 관한 연구)

  • The material and mechanical properties in the high temperature area of 40 to 100 MPa high strength concrete structural member was identified based on mixing of fiber cocktail and the structural element fire behavior simulation through the finite element analysis method (ABAQUS) was interpreted. The results are as follows. First, it was interpreted that the test specimen with concrete fiber cocktail mixed was more controllable in the maximum shrinkage than the one with concrete fiber cocktail not mixed the controllable range was about 25% to 55%. This means that shrinkage is controllable through mixing of fiber cocktail for the high strength concrete columns. Second, this study didn't consider the explosive spalling by the pore pressure within high strength concrete. If the properties for the pore pressure within high strength concrete is considered and database by strength and by inner temperature of various high strength concrete and steel materials are established in the future, it is interpreted that the technical foundation will be laid for performance based design of fire resistant construction.

Development of Sample Environment at High Temperature for the four Circle Diffractometer at HANARO: Structural Study of $LiTaO_3$ at Room and High Temperatures (하나로 4축 단결정 회절장치용 고온시료환경장치의 개발: $LiTaO_3$의 상온 및 고온 구조 연구)

  • The sample environment at high temperature for the four circle diffractometer at HANARO in Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute is developed. The performance test was carried out for a structurally known sample through the high temperature experiment with this equipment. In this study we found out that the developed sample environment is stable for a long time experiment at over 900 K. By the neutron diffraction from a single crystal of $LiTaO_3$(phase transition temperature about 900 K) at 298 and 913 K, the lithium atomic positions at both temperatures and disordered state of lithium atom at high temperature were confirmed. These are hardly possible to determine by the conventional X-ray diffraction method.

Heat Conduction Analysis and Fire Resistance Capacity Evaluation of Reinforced Concrete Beams Strengthened by FRP (FRP로 보강된 철근콘크리트보의 열전도해석 및 내화성능 평가)

  • The object of this paper is to find the characteristics of fire proof materials through an analytical method and to suggest a proper approach for fire-proof design of reinforced concrete beam strengthened with fiber reinforced polymer (FRP). Heating tests for fire-proof materials were conducted and the thermal conductivities and specific heats of them were simulated through finite element analyses. In addition, a finite element analysis on the beam specimen strengthened with FRP under high temperature, which was conducted by previous researchers, was performed and the analytical result was compared with test result. And then the compatibility of the analytical approach was evaluated. Finally, the heat resistance characteristic of RC beam strengthened with FRP was analyzed by the proposed analytical method and the strength decrease of the beam due to the high temperature was evaluated. From the comparison with analytical and test result, it was found that the heat transfer from outside to inside through the fire-proof materials can be suitably simulated by using the proposed analytical approach.

  • Evaluation on the test of actual concrete member to confirm the fire resistance of the concrete member using ultra-high strength concrete is required. However, test equipment which has large loading capacity is needed to the actual member experiment. So, many researchers evaluated the fire performance through analytical studies using the material models. This study experimentally evaluated strain properties on ultra-high-strength concrete of 80, 130 and 180 MPa with heating and examined to apply the existing strain model about ultra-high-strength concrete. As a results, constants are drawn by method of least squares applying experimental values and calculated values by the existing strain model, it proposed strain model that can be applied to ultra-high-strength concrete.

A Study on the Oxidation Behavior of Metal Materials Applicable to Oxidizer Rich Pre-Combustor (산화제 과잉 연소기에 활용 가능한 금속재료의 산화 거동에 관한 연구)

  • Metals exposed to high temperature/high pressure/oxidant excess environment of an oxygen excess pre-combustor may undergo rapid oxidation. In this study, the test facility to simulate the high temperature/high pressure/oxidant excess environment was constructed and the oxidation resistance evaluation was carried out for various metal materials. As a result, the discoloration of the metallic materials, the change in the surface roughness and the peeling of the metal surface were observed, and the weight change was also observed. The resulst showed that oxidation-resistant coating of a metal material of the combustor is indispensably required, and the use of XM-19, which has the highest content of Cr and Ni, is expected to provide more structural stability.

  • Nowaday, High strength concrete(HSC) has been mainly used in high rise building. HSC have superior property as well as improvement in durability compared with ordinary strength concrete. In spite of durability of HSC, explosive spalling in concrete front surface near the source of fire occurs serious problem in structural safety. Thus, this study is concerned with experimentally investigation fire resistance of the inorganic fire protection materials at high temperatures up to $800^{\circ}C$. From the test result, developed inorganic binder becomes general that with rising temperature the compressive strength of the material increases in tendency. Therefore, the results indicate that it is possible to fireproof panels, fire protection of materials, etc.

  • KSLV-1 2nd stage Kick Motor Nozzle was exposed to high temperature and pressure during the firing. Under the high pressure environment, Kick Motor Nozzle hydro-pressure test was done for verifying the structural safety of the nozzle. The differences with the KM hydro-pressure test [1] are that the real immerged heat resistance material is assembled and the throat heat resistance material is similar with the real one. The hydro-pressure tests were done for the two times of the 125 % of MEOP (975 psi) and the 153 % of the MEOP.

Effect of Deposition Temperature on the Electrical Performance of SiZnSnO Thin Film Transistors Fabricated by RF Magnetron Sputtering (스퍼터 공정을 이용한 SiZnSnO 산화물 반도체 박막 트랜지스터의 증착 온도에 따른 특성)

  • We have investigated the structural and electrical properties of Si-Zn-Sn-O (SZTO) thin films deposited by RF magnetron sputtering at various deposition temperatures from RT to $350^{\circ}C$. All the SZTO thin fims are amorphous structure. The mobility of SZTO thin film has been changed depending on the deposition temperature. SZTO thin film transistor shows mobility of 8.715 $cm^2/Vs$ at room temperature. We performed the electrical stress test by applying gate and drain voltage. SZTO thin film transistor shows good stability deposited at room temperature while showing poor stability deposited at $350^{\circ}C$. As a result, the electrical performance and stability have been changed depending on deposition temperature mainly because high deposition temperature loosened the amorphous structure generating more oxygen vacancies.
