Purpose: The objective of this study was to identify determine the effect of the strap height on muscular activity of trunk and lower limbs muscles during bridging exercise with a sling. Methods: The subjects of the study were 17 healthy male adults. In order to For measurement of muscular activity, body surfaces electrodes were placed on areas including erector spinae, multifidus muscles, gluteus maximus, and hamstring and the results was were recorded based on three different heights of strap, which are Levels 1, 2, and 3. Results: The muscular activities in erector spinae, multifidus muscle, and gluteus maximus were significantly different in at all three heights (p<0.05)., Level 3 showed the highest the compared to Levels 1 and 2. In hamstring muscle, there was significant difference in levels 1 and 2, also and levels 1 and 3 (p<0.05),. Bbut there was no significant difference between 2 and 3. The ration of muscular activities in multifidus muscles/erector spinae and gluteus maximus/hamstrings were significantly different for all three strap heights (p<0.05). Also, Level 3 showed higher than 1 or 2. Conclusion: The results of this study suggests to adjustment of the level III, that which has high activity level of multifidus and gluteus maximus affecting trunk stability during bridging exercise using a sling.
Undoped InP epilayers with high purity were grown by using $In/PCl_3/H_2$ chloride vapor phase epitaxy. It was found that the growth of InP homoepitaxial layer is optimized at the growth temperature of $630^{\circ}C$ and at the $PCl_3$ molar fraction of $1.2\times10^{-2}$. The carrier concentration of InP epilayer was less than $10^{14} {cm}^{-3}$ from the low temperature (11K) photoluminescence measurement. Growth behavior of undoped InP current blocking layer on reactive ion-etched (RIE) mesas has been investigated for the realization of 1.55 $\mu \textrm m$buried-heterostructure laser diode (BH LD), using chloride vapor phase epitaxy. On the base of InP homoepitaxy, InP current blocking layers were grown at the growth temperatures ranging from $620^{\circ}C$ to $640^{\circ}C$. Almost planar grown surfaces without edge overgrowth were achieved as the growth temperature increased. It implied that higher temperature enhanced the surface diffusion of the growth species on the {111} B planes and suppressed edge overgrowth.
Imaging-PAM fluorometry was used to assess the chlorophyll a fluorescence parameter ${\Phi}_{PSII}$ (effective quantum yield) in Frcus vesiculosus. F. disttchus. ssp. distichus and AscophyIIum nodosum. The objective was to show variadon in fluorescence yield associated with age and frond organ, and to illustrate the spatial scales at which photosynthetic parameters vary on fucoid thalli. In addition, our species represented taxa in different but related genera, species with different ecoloeies (rock pool and non rock pool species), morphologies (with and without air bladders) and longevities (several to 20 or more years). A further objective was to determine the extent to which photosynthetic parameters reflected these differences- Effective quantum yield declined substantially with age in F. vesiculosus and F. distichus ssp. distichus, whereas ${\Phi}_{PSII}$ in A. nodosum was maximal after three years. In A. nodosum ${\Phi}_{PSII}$ was still high in branch segments at least seven years old. Older branches of A. nodosum showed relatively higher and more homogeneous photosynthetic capacity relative to Fucus species. Surfaces of air bladders in A. nodosum and F. vesicu- losus had ${\Phi}_{PSII}$ that was not significantly different from the highest rates, achieved in these species. The heterogene- ity of photosynthetic efficiency is consistent with morphological and developmental differences among the species and their ecology. in particular the longevity of A. nodosum fronds.
In this study, we have investigated the surface morphology of hydroxyapatite (HA) coated Ti alloy surface using pulsed laser plating. The HA (tooth ash) films were grown by pulsed KrF excimer laser, film surfaces were analyzed for topology, chemical composition, crystal structure and electrochemical behavior. The Ti-6Al-4V alloy showed ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ phase, Cp-Ti showed ${\alpha}$ phase and the HA coated surface showed HA and Ti alloy peaks. The HA coating layer was formed with $1-2{\mu}m$ droplets and grain-like particles, particles which were smaller than the HA target particle, and the composition of the HA coatings were composed of Ca and P. From the electrochemical test, the pitting potential (1580 mV) of HA coated Ti-6Al-4V alloy was higher than those of Cp-Ti (1060 mV) and HA coated Cp-Ti (1350 mV). The HA coated samples showed a lower current density than non-HA coated samples, whereas, the polarization resistance of HA coated samples showed a high value compared to non-HA coated samples.
Legged locomotion has high mobility on irregular surfaces by touching the ground at discrete points. Inspired by the creature's legged locomotion, legged robots have been developed to explore unstructured environments. In this paper, we propose a modular crawler that can easily adjust the number of legs for adapting the environment that the robot should move. One module has a pair of legs, so the number of legs can be adjusted by changing the number of modules. All legs are driven by a single driving motor for simple and compact design, so the driving axle of each module is connected by the universal joint. Universal joints between modules enable the body flexion for steering or overcoming higher obstacles. A prototype of crawler with three modules is built and the driving performance and the effect of module lifting on the ability to overcome obstacles are demonstrated by the experiments.
A numerical study was performed for a vane of a compressor with a high-turning angle and meridional divergence. At first, the effect of the suction position was discussed. Then, the optimal suction position was applied to the cascades with the aspect ratio of 2.53 and 0.3, respectively, to get the knowledge of the effect of the endwall boundary layer removal on the secondary flow along the blade height. At last, using the critical principles of the three-dimensional separation, the topological structures of the flow patterns of the body surfaces and the separation configurations were discussed in detail. The results show that the largest reduction of the total loss can be achieved when the suction slot is near the suction side. The topological structure as well as the separation configuration varies due to boundary layer removal, which restrains the flow separation at the corner and delays or depresses the separation on the suction surface. Compared with the original cascade, the cascade with the endwall boundary layer removal has a higher blade loading along the most span. Furthermore the flow loss decreases and distributes uniformly along the span.
Graphene (multilayer graphene) was chosen as an additive to improve the hydrogen uptake and release properties of magnesium (Mg). Five weight percent of graphene was added to pre-milled Mg by milling in hydrogen (reaction-involving milling). The hydrogen uptake and release properties of the graphene-added Mg were investigated. The activation of Mg-5graphene, which was prepared by adding 5 wt% graphene to Mg pre-milled for 24 h, was completed after the second cycle (cycle number, CN=2). Mg-5graphene had a high effective hydrogen-storage capacity (the quantity of hydrogen absorbed for 60 min) of 6.21 wt% at CN=3 at 593 K in 12 bar $H_2$. At CN=1, Mg-5graphene released 0.46 wt% hydrogen for 10 min and 4.99 wt% hydrogen for 60 min. Milling in hydrogen is believed to create defects (leading to facilitation of nucleation), produce cracks and clean surfaces (leading to increase in reactivity), and decrease particle size (leading to diminution of diffusion distances or increasing the flux of diffusing hydrogen atoms). The added graphene is believed to have helped the sample have higher hydrogen uptake and release rates, weakly but partly, by dispersing heat rapidly.
Ti-6Al-4V alloy has a wide range of applications, ranging from turbine blades that require smooth surfaces for aerodynamic purposes to biomedical implants, where a certain surface roughness promotes biomedical compatibility. Therefore, it would be advantageous if the high volumetric density is maintained while controlling the surface roughness during the LPBF of Ti-6Al-4V. In this study, the volumetric energy density is varied by independently changing the laser power and scan speed to document the changes in the relative sample density and surface roughness. The results where the energy density is similar but the process parameters are different are compared. For comparable energy density but higher laser power and scan speed, the relative density remained similar at approximately 99%. However, the surface roughness varies, and the maximum increase rate is approximately 172%. To investigate the cause of the increased surface roughness, a nonlinear finite element heat transfer analysis is performed to compare the maximum temperature, cooling rate, and lifetime of the melt pool with different process parameters.
As the large-scale renewable energy power plant increases, the high-capacity and compact Energy Storage System (ESS) is required. However, this trend could reduce the insulation reliability of ESS. In this study, the surface flashover characteristics for four types of solid insulators are investigated in the uniform electric field with AC and Lightning Impulse (LI) voltage waveforms under various contamination levels. In addtion, insulator surfaces are compared based on the contact angle before and after surface flashover. The experimental results show that AC flashover voltage is dependent on the materials and the contamination level, but LI flashover voltage is only associated with the contamination level. Especially, AC flashover voltage of PC (PolyCarbonate) is higher than that of other insulators, which is associated with the unique and sequential creepage discharge propagation pattern of PC. The localized discharges on the surface of PC form corresponding tracking points. Then, the interconnected trackings result in the complete flashover. This flashover patterns degrade the surface of PC much more than that of epoxy and Bulk Molding Compoud (BMC). Thus, the contact angle of PC is significantly reduced compared to that of other insulators. The increased hydrophilicity in the surface of PC enhances the insulator surface conductivity.
The recent increasing application rate of advanced high-strength steel(AHSS) for automotive parts makes it difficult to ensure the durability of forming tools. Significant load and friction generated during the piercing process of AHSS increase the wear rate and the damage degree to dies. These harsh process conditions also yield product failures, such as dimensional inconsistency of pierced holes and insufficient quality of hole's sheared edge. This study analyzed the effect of punch wear on the sheared surface of pierced parts and the forming load during the piercing process. Wear-shaped punches showed approximately 20% higher piercing load than normal-shaped punches, and the rollover ratio of the sheared surface also increased. It is considered that the dull edge of wear-shaped punches does not penetrate directly into the material but shears after tensioning it in a piercing direction. In addition, wear-shaped punches experienced compressive load even after completing the piercing process during the down-stroke and tensile load during the up-stroke. This load variation is related to the smaller diameter piercing holes produced by wear-shaped punches compared to normal-shaped punches. Thus, we demonstrated the predictability of the wear level of dies through a comparative analysis of the piercing load pattern.
