Inhibitory effect of water-soluble mulberry leaf extract on hepatic lipid accumulation in high-fat diet-fed rats via modulation of hepatic microRNA-221/222 expression and inflammation (고지방식이 급여 쥐에서 수용성 뽕나무 잎 추출물의 간 microRNA-221/222 발현 및 염증 조절을 통한 간 지질 축적억제 효과)

  • Purpose: This study investigated the effects of water-soluble mulberry leaf extract (ME) on hepatic lipid accumulation in high-fat diet-fed rats via the regulation of hepatic microRNA (miR)-221/222 and inflammation. Methods: Male Sprague-Dawley rats (4 weeks old) were randomly divided into 3 groups (n = 7 each) and fed with 10 kcal% low-fat diet (LF), 45 kcal% high-fat diet (HF), or HF + 0.8% ME for 14 weeks. Lipid profiles and cytokine levels of the liver and serum were measured using commercial enzymatic colorimetric and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, respectively. The messenger RNA (mRNA) and miR levels in liver tissue were assayed by real-time quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction. Results: Supplementation of ME reduces body weight and improves the liver and serum lipid profiles as compared to the HF group. The mRNA levels of hepatic peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma, sterol regulatory element binding protein-1c, fatty acid synthase, and fatty acid translocase, which are genes involved in lipid metabolism, were significantly downregulated in the ME group compared to the HF group. In contrast, the mRNA level of hepatic carnitine palmitoyl transferase-1 (involved in fatty acid oxidation) was upregulated by ME supplementation. Furthermore, administration of ME significantly downregulated the mRNA levels of inflammatory mediators such as hepatic tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), interleukin 6 (IL-6), monocyte chemoattractant protein-1, and inducible nitric oxide synthase. The serum levels of TNF-α, IL-6, and nitric oxide were also significantly reduced in ME group compared to the HF group. Expression of hepatic miR-221 and miR-222, which increase in the inflammatory state of the liver, were also significantly inhibited in the ME group compared to the HF group. Conclusion: These results indicate that ME has the potential to improve hepatic lipid accumulation in high-fat diet-fed rats via modulation of inflammatory mediators and hepatic miR-221/222 expressions.

박막 표면 결정성에 대한 Nano-Indenter 압입 각도 차이의 nano-electrotribology 특성 변화 연구

  • 기존의 트라이볼로지 분석 기법은 macro 영역에서 시료의 강도 및 탄성 등의 물성을 분석하는 정도였으나 Nano-Indenter 분석 기법은 macro 영역보다 더 미세한 nano 영역에서의 시료 물성 분석을 가능하게 해주었다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 시료들의 결정 배양 방향에 따른 Nano-Indenter 압입 각도 차이에 대한 nano 영역에서의 연구를 진행하였다. Si 기판 외에 본 연구에 사용 된 HfN 및 Zr 박막의 시료들은 rf magnetron sputter를 이용하여 약 100 nm 두께로 증착하였다. 각각 시료들에 대한 결정성 확인을 위해 XRD 분석을 실시하였다. 이후 Nano-Indenter를 이용하여 압입 인가력 대비 압입 깊이를 측정하였다. 이 과정에서 Nano-Indenter 압입 각도를 $0^{\circ}$$90^{\circ}$로 변화함에 따라 압입 인가력 - 압입 깊이 그래프의 차이를 확인하였고 이를 기준점으로 부터 $10{\mu}m$ 이격시켜 16회 반복 측정과 Weilbull distribution을 통해 신뢰도를 향상시켰다. 측정 결과 Zirconium(Zr) 박막의 경우 21.53 GPa과 22.18 GPa 측정되었으나 Si 기판은 17.46 GPa 16.33 GPa으로, 그리고 HfN 박막의 경우 25.18 GPa과 27.75 GPa으로 상대적으로 큰 차이를 확인하였다. Si 기판과 HfN의 측정결과 Weibull distribution는 75.02와 70.23인 반면 Zr 박막은 30.94로 상대적으로 불균일한 특성을 확인하였다. 이 결과들로부터 각각의 박막 결정 배양 방향에 따른 분석의 한가지 방법으로 Nano-Indenter 분석 기법을 사용할 수 있는 가능성을 확인하였다.

Effects of Self-stretching and Joint Mobilization to Upper Thoracic Vertebrae in Craniovertebral Angle and Autonomic System Function in Chronic Cervical Pain (만성 목통증에 대한 자가신장과 위등뼈 관절가동술이 머리척추각 및 자율신경계 기능에 미치는 효과)

  • PURPOSE: This study aimed to examine the effects of self-stretching (SS) and joint mobilization (JM) on pain, craniovertebral angle (CVA), autonomic system function in chronic cervical pain patient with forward head posture (FHP). METHODS: A total of 30 male college students were selected as study subjects, and were divided into Group I (general physical therapy; GPT, n=10), Group II (GPT+SS, n=10), Group III (GPT+JM, n=10). All groups were evaluated three times a week for 4 weeks. Pain was measured by visual analogue scale (VAS), CVA was measured using digital goniometer and autonomic system function (heart rate; HR, skin conductivity; SC, LF norm, HF norm, LF/HF ratio) was measured by Biofeedback ProComp Infiniti. After 4 weeks, paired t-test was used to compare the changes within the group and one way ANOVA was used to compare those between the groups. RESULTS: In Group I, VAS was significantly decreased. In Group II and III was a significantly change in all items. In comparison between Group I and II was a difference in all items except HR. In comparison between Group I and III was a difference in all items. In comparison between Group II and III was a difference in VAS, LF norm and LF/HF ratio. CONCLUSION: This study showed that SS and JM can effectively reduce pain and normalize the autonomic system function.

차세대 비휘발성 메모리 적용을 위한 Staggered Tunnel Barrier (Si3N4/ZrO2, Si3N4/HfAlO)에 대한 전기적 특성 평가

  • 최근 Charge Trap Flash (CTF) Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) 소자가 30 nm node 이하로 보고 되면서, 고집적화 플래시 메모리 소자로 각광 받고 있다. 기존의 CTF NVM 소자의 tunnel layer로 쓰이는 SiO2는 성장의 용이성과 Si 기판과의 계면특성, 낮은 누설전류와 같은 장점을 지니고 있다. 하지만 단일층의 SiO2를 tunnel layer로 사용하는 기존의 Non-Valatile Memory (NVM)는 두께가 5 nm 이하에서 direct tunneling과 Stress Induced Leakage Current (SILC) 등의 효과로 인해 게이트 누설 전류가 증가하여 메모리 보존특성의 감소와 같은 신뢰성 저하에 문제점을 지니고 있다. 이를 극복하기 위한 방안으로, 최근 CTF NVM 소자의 Tunnel Barrier Engineered (TBE) 기술이 많이 접목되고 있는 상황이다. TBE 기술은 SiO2 단일층 대신에 서로 다른 유전율을 가지는 절연막을 적층시킴으로서 전계에 대한 민감도를 높여 메모리 소자의 쓰기/지우기 동작 특성과 보존특성을 동시에 개선하는 방법이다. 또한 터널링 절연막으로 유전률이 큰 High-K 물질을 이용하면 물리적인 두께를 증가시킴으로서 누설 전류를 줄이고, 단위 면적당 gate capacitance값을 늘릴 수 있어 메모리 소자의 동작 특성을 개선할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 CTF NVM 소자의 trap layer로 쓰이는 HfO2의 두께를 5 nm, blocking layer의 역할을 하는 Al2O3의 두께를 12 nm로 하고, tunnel layer로 Si3N4막 위에 유전율과 Energy BandGap이 유사한 HfAlO와 ZrO2를 적층하여 Program/Erase Speed, Retention, Endurance를 측정을 통해 메모리 소자로서의 특성을 비교 분석하였다.

Population and Interconversion of Neutral and Zwitterionic Forms of L-Alanine in Solution

  • The conformational study on neutral and zwitterionic L-alanines (N-Ala and Z-Ala, respectively) and the transition state (TS) for their interconversion is carried out using ab initio HF and density functional B3LYP methods with the self-consistent reaction field method in the gas phase and in solution. At both the HF and B3LYP levels of theory, the local minimum N1 for N-Ala is found to be most preferred in the gas phase and a weak asymmetric bifurcated hydrogen bond between the amino hydrogens and the carbonyl oxygen appears to play a role in stabilizing this conformation. The local minima N2a and N2b are found to be the second preferred conformations, which seem to be stabilized by a hydrogen bond between the amino nitrogen and the carboxylic hydrogen. The relative stability of the local minimum N2b is remarkably increased in solution than that in the gas phase. The local minimum N2b becomes more stable than the local minimum N2a in most of the solution. On the whole the relative free energies of Z-Ala and TS become more lowered, as the solvent polarity increases. N-Ala prevails over Z-Ala in aprotic solutions but Z-Ala is dominantly populated in ethanol and water. In aprotic solutions, the population of Z-Ala increases somewhat with the increase of solvent polarity. The barrier to Z-Ala-to-N-Ala interconversion increases on the whole with the increase of solvent polarity, which is caused by the increase of stability for Z-Ala.

Clinical Study on Relationship between Pattern Identifications and Heart Rate Variability (변증과 심박변이도의 상관성 연구)

  • This study was performed to investigate relationship between each pattern identification and heart rate variability(HRV) indices. We analyzed 201 subjects who participated in stroke check up. We classified the subjects into four groups of pattern identifications; Fire-Heat pattern(FH), Yin Deficiency pattern(YD), Qi Deficiency pattern(QD) and Dampness-Phlegm pattern(DP) that based on Korean Standard Pattern Identifications for Stroke-III. We investigated significance of HRV indices between each pattern identification and heart rate variability indices. The total number of the subject group was 201, whereas the groups were divided into four groups; Fire-Heat pattern group(n=47), Yin Deficiency pattern(n=65), Qi Deficiency pattern(n=33), and Dampness-Phlegm pattern(n=56). SDNN, TP, Ln(TP), VLF, Ln(VLF), LF, Ln(LF) and HF were significantly higher in the Fire-Heat pattern(FH) group than other groups of pattern identifications, but there was no differences among the Yin Deficiency group, the Qi Deficiency group and the Dampness-Phlegm group. Ln(HF), LF(NORM), HF(NORM) and LF/HF ratio were significantly higher in the Fire-Heat group than in the Qi Deficiency group. However, there was no significant differences among the Dampness-Phlegm group, the Yin Deficiency group, Fire-Heat group and the Qi Deficiency group. Through this study, we found out some significant relationships between each pattern identification group and HRV indices. The result of this study demonstrates that sympathetic nerve was more active in the Fire-Heat group than other groups.

Study on the hypochlolesterolemic and antioxidative effects of tyramine derivatives from the root bark of Lycium chenese Miller

  • The aim of the present study was to investigate the hypocholesterolemic effect and potential of tyramine derivatives from Lycii Cortex Radicis (LCR), the root bark of lycium (Lycium chenese Miller) in reducing lipid peroxidation. The activities of enzymes, hepatic 3-hydroxy 3-methylglutaryl (HMG) CoA reductase and acyl-CoA:cholesterol acyltransferase (ACAT) and LDL oxidation were measured in vitro and animal experiments were also performed by feeding LCR extracts to rats. The test compounds employed for in vitro study were trans-N-p-coumaroyltyramine (CT) and trans-N-feruloyltyramine (FT), LCR components, N-(p-coumaroyl)serotonin (CS) and N-feruloylserotonin (FS) from safflower seeds, ferulic acid (FA) and 10-gingerol. It was observed that FT and FS at the concentration of 1.2 mg/mL inhibited liver microsomal HMG CoA reductase activity by ~40%, but no inhibition of activity was seen in the cases of CT, CS, FA and 10-gingerol. Whereas, ACAT activity was inhibited ~50% by FT and CT, 34-43% by FS and CS and ~80% by 10-gingerol at the concentration of 1 mg/mL. A significant delay in LDL oxidation was induced by CT, FT, and 10-gingerol. For the animal experiment, five groups of Sprague-Dawley male rats were fed high fat diets containing no test material (HF-control), 1 and 2% of LCR ethanol extract (LCR1 and LCR2), and 1% of extracts from safflower seed (Sat) and ginger (Gin). The results indicated that total cholesterol level was significantly lower in Saf, LCR2 and Gin groups, and HDL cholesterol level was lower only in Gin group when compared with HF-control group; while there was no difference in the serum triglyceride levels among the five experimental groups. The level of liver cholesterol was significantly lower in LCR1 and LCR2 groups than HF-control Serum levels of TBARS were significantly lower only in LCR2 group when compared with HF-control group. From the observed results, we concluded that LCR can be utilized as a hypocholesterolemic ingredient in combination with ginger, especially for functional foods.

Band alignment and optical properties of $(ZrO_2)_{0.66}(HfO_2)_{0.34}$ gate dielectrics thin films on p-Si (100)

  • $(ZrO_2)_{0.66}(HfO_2)_{0.34}$ thin films as gate dielectrics have been proposed to overcome the problems of tunneling current and degradation mobility inachieving a thin equivalent oxide thickness. An extremely thin $SiO_2$ layer is used in order to separate the carrier in MOSFET channel from the dielectric field fluctuation caused by phonons in the dielectric which decreases the carrier mobility. The electronic and optical properties influenced the device performance to a great extent. $(ZrO_2)_{0.66}(HfO_2)_{0.34}$ dielectric films on p-Si (100) were grown by atomic layer deposition method, for which the conduction band offsets, valence band offsets and band gapswere obtained by using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and reflection electron energy loss spectroscopy. The band gap, valence and conduction band offset values for $(ZrO_2)_{0.66}(HfO_2)_{0.34}$ dielectric thin film, grown on Si substrate were about 5.34, 2.35 and 1.87 eV respectively. This band alignment was similar to that of $ZrO_2$. In addition, The dielectric function (k, $\omega$), index of refraction n and the extinction coefficient k for the $(ZrO_2)_{0.66}(HfO_2)_{0.34}$ thin films were obtained from a quantitative analysis of REELS data by comparison to detailed dielectric response model calculations using the QUEELS-$\varepsilon$(k, $\omega$)-REELS software package. These optical properties are similar with $ZrO_2$ dielectric thin films.

  • The nucleation of copper(Cu) with (hfac)iu(VTMS) oganometallic precursor is investigated for Si, $Sio_2$, TiN, $W_2N$ substrates. As the deposition temperature is increased, the dominant growth mechanism is observed to change from the nucleation of Cu particles to the clustering of Cu nuclei around $180^{\ciec}C$, independent of the employed substrates. It is also observed that the cleaning of substrate surfaces with the diluted HF solution improves the selectivity of Cu nucleation between TiN and $Sio_2$ substrates. Dimethyldichlorosilane treatment is found to passivate the surface of TiN substrate, contrary to the generally accepted belief, when the TiN substrate is cleaned by $H_2O_2$ solution before the treatment.

Characterization of Sandwiched MIM Capacitors Under DC and AC Stresses: Al2O3-HfO2-Al2O3 Versus SiO2-HfO2-SiO2 (Al2O3-HfO2-Al2O3와 SiO2-HfO2-SiO2 샌드위치 구조 MIM 캐패시터의 DC, AC Stress에 따른 특성 분석)

  • In this paper, reliability of the two sandwiched MIM capacitors of $Al_2O_3-HfO_2-Al_2O_3$ (AHA) and $SiO_2-HfO_2-SiO_2$ (SHS) with hafnium-based dielectrics was analyzed using two kinds of voltage stress; DC and AC voltage stresses. Two MIM capacitors have high capacitance density (8.1 fF/${\mu}m^2$ and 5.2 fF/${\mu}m^2$) over the entire frequency range and low leakage current density of ~1 nA/$cm^2$ at room temperature and 1 V. The charge trapping in the dielectric shows that the relative variation of capacitance (${\Delta}C/C_0$) increases and the variation of voltage linearity (${\alpha}$/${\alpha}_0$) gradually decreases with stress-time under two types of voltage stress. It is also shown that DC voltage stress induced greater variation of capacitance density and voltage linearity than AC voltage stress.
