A Study on Prescription of Herbal Composition on Dysuria (소편불통(小便不通)에 사용되는 처방의 약물구성에 관한 연구)

  • Objectives : The aim of this study is to analyze the prescription used for dysuria in herbal medication. Methods : Investigating the Oriental Medicine textbooks, I found the prescription used for dysuria. So I analyzed the herbal medication for frequency or compositon and classified it. Results : 1. The most used prescription on dysuria is Paljung-san. 2. The order of frequency of herb for treating dysuria is Moktong, Hwalseok, Gamcho, 3. The group of Yisusamseopyak is used for main prescription about 42%.

Remission of ulcerative colitis with severe diarrhea by herbal medicine treatment: A case report (한약으로 관해가 유도된 극심한 설사의 궤양성대장염 환자 증례보고)

  • Ulcerative colitis (UC) is one of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) with unknown etiopathogenesis. This case report details remission of UC induced by Korean herbal medicine treatment. A 31-year-old male patient diagnosed as UC after a series of examinations including endoscopy and fecal calprotectin (FC) test. He had severe bloody diarrhea over 10-20 times a day despite taking 5-aminosalicylic acid and steroid. He was given individualized Korean herbal medicine Dowha-tang according to pattern identification. After taking Dowha-tang for 7 months, clinical remission was achieved. The symptoms disappeared and FC level went down to normal level. No adverse events were reported. This case report shows that Korean herbal medicine treatment may have the potential for clinical remission of UC. Further investigation is warranted.

A Study on the Inference and Classification Method of the Effectiveness Using the Herb Composition (본초 구성을 이용한 방제의 효능 추론 및 분류 방법에 관한 연구)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to infer the prescription effectiveness that have not been recorded in the existing effectiveness and to find out how to classify. Methods : The herbal compositions of bang-yaghabpyeon, the herbal textbooks and contents related to the prescription textbooks' effectiveness were entered into the database using the 'Access 2014 of the MS'. The effectiveness are inferred using query sentences. Results : The prescription effectiveness in the bang-yaghabpyeon were inferred using the herbal classification, herbal effectiveness and herbal effectiveness inferred from prescription textbooks. Conclusions : Each information of herbal effectiveness strength was extracted using the prescription textbooks' effectiveness information. These results were efficient to infer and classify bang-yaghabpyeon prescription effectiveness.

Study of structural analysis on formulas from 『Onbyungjobyun』 using network analysis (네트워크 분석법을 이용한 『온병조변』 처방의 구조적 분석 연구)

  • Objective : This study aims to diversify interpretation of formulas from "Onbyungjobyun" by analyzing various formulas from "Onbyungjobyun" as basic formulas. Method : This study found herbal communities of combination by analyzing herbal combinations based on network analysis of formulas from "Onbyungjobyun", and has analyzed each community of combination as basic formulas. Result : The results of network analysis showed a total of 3 herbal communities of combination; first was medicinal herbs from Eungyo-san(銀翹散), Jeungaek-tang(增液湯), Bokmaek-tang(復脈湯), Gyeji-tang(桂枝湯), Sogeonjung-tang (小建中湯) series; second was medicinal herbs from Angungwoohwang-hwan(安宮牛黃丸); third was medicinal herbs from Baekho-tang(白虎湯), Jaseol-dan(紫雪丹), Sayeok-tang(四逆湯) series. Conclusion : The formulas from "Onbyungjobyun" are consisted of herbal communities of combination; that treat warm-heat pathogen and supplies yin essence or yang qi; treat reverse transmission to the pericardium(逆傳心包); and treat heat in the qi phase in Onbyeong and cold-dampness in the middle energizer.

Herbal formula MJY2018 protects against Alcohol-induced liver injury mice model (알코올 유발 간 손상 마우스 모델에서 복합 추출물 MJY2018의 간 보호 및 항산화 효과)

  • Objectives : This study investigated the liver-protective effects of MJY2018, a Herbal formula, against alcoholic fatty liver disease and anti-oxidative effects. Methods : Its effects were investigated in an alcoholic fatty liver disease model in male C57BL/6 mice, which were fed Lieber-DeCarli liquid diet containing ethanol. MJY2018 (100 and 200 mg/kg bw/day) or silymarin (50 mg/kg bw/day) were orally administered daily in the alcoholic fatty liver disease mice for 16 days. Results : The results indicate that MJY2018 promotes hepatoprotection by significantly reducing aspartate transaminase (AST) and alanine transaminase (ALT) levels as indicators of liver damage in the serum. Furthermore, MJY2018 reduced accumulation of triglyceride and total cholesterol, increased levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione (GSH) in the livers of the alcoholic fatty liver disease mice model. Additionally, it improved the serum alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) activity. Conclusions : These results indicate that MJY2018 were effective in improving and protecting oxidative stress and alcoholic liver disease.

  • Objectives : Bi-jeung is a traditional oriental medical name. Bi-jeung is similar to rheumatoid arthritis(RA). This study was investigated to get the practical use of Bi-jeung prescriptions in Byunjeungrok. Methods: Original records related Bi-jeung in Byunjeungrok are interpreted and contemplated. Results: Bi-jeung prescriptions in Byunjeungrok are put stress on Byunjeung in conformity with entrails good energy enforcing as well as evil energy eliminating removing damp-evil among wind-evil cold-evil and damp-evil showing concrete prognosis. Conclusions: This study indicates that Bi-jeung prescriptions in Byunjeungrok have an influences for RA. It may also suggest that Bi-jeung prescriptions may expand therapy field for treatment of RA. and its complications.

Study of analysis on body part terminology from Korean medicine formula data in comparison with WHO ICD-11 (ICD-11과의 비교를 통한 한의학 처방데이터 내의 인체부위 용어 분석 연구)

  • Objective : This study aims to analyze the current use of body part terminology in Korean medicine formula data by comparing with ICD-11 body part terminology as a criteria. Methods : Body part terminology was extracted from the main treatment data within the Korean Medicine formula ontology and was analyzed in comparison with the ICD-11 body part terminology. Results : Out of 113 body part terminologies in Korean medicine, 92 were corresponded with ICD in a one-to-one, one-to-multi, or multi-to-one relation. Also, most body part terminologies were corresponded to superordinate concepts of ICD while 21 terminologies were not able to be corresponded to ICD. Conclusion : A majority of body part terminology in formula data could be corresponded to ICD but mostly refered to superordinate concepts. Results showed various types of corresponding relation which requires further study for precise and detailed correspondence. Also, study showed some terminologies were not applicable for correspondence which were mostly a unique body part concept of Korean medicine which requires further study to present Korean Medicine knowledge accurately in the language of ICD.

  • Recently, more and more natural herbal products are investigated and used popularly. Pharmaceutical companies of Korea are very interested in developing herbal new drugs. And oriental doctors also need popular, modernized form of oriental drugs. The objective of this article is, first, to examine current situations of drug development in Korea, second, to know general concepts of patent and third, to think about new drug development and patent in oriental medicine's point of view. With consideration of oriental medicine's characteristics, concepts of new drug and patent should be improved. Therefore, the oriental pharmaceutical industry and developments of oriental new drugs could be inspired to further efforts.
