Reactive reductants of cement/Fe(II) systems in dechlorinating chlorinated hydrocarbons have not been identified. The previous studies showed that a hematite/CaO/Fe(II) system had TCE degradation characteristics similar to those of cement/Fe(II) systems with regard to degradation kinetics and that lime (CaO) plays an important role in enhancing the reactivity for TCE dechlorination. The current study shows identified the formation of gypsum ($CaSO_4$) in the hematite/CaO/$FeSO_4$ system through the XRD analysis. The amounts of the gypsum increased with increment of the initial CaO dose. However, when CaO in the hematite/CaO/$FeSO_4$ system was replaced with gypsum, TCE degradation was not observed. Ca-removed Portland cement extracts (CPCX) in combination with $FeSO_4(CPCX/FeSO_4)$ showed no TCE degradation. On the other hands, the Portland cement extracts (PCX) in the presence of $FeSO_4(PCX/FeSO_4)$ and CPCX/CaO/$FeSO_4$ systems degraded 0.2 mM TCE within 5 days, indicating that CaO also played an important role dechlorination reactions in the systems. The pseudo-first-order rate constants (k) of the CPCX/CaO/$FeSO_4$ systems were 0.20, 0.24, and 0.72 $day^{-1}$, when the CaO dosages were 25, 50 and 75 g/L, respectively. The XRD analyses showed identified the common peaks having the d-values of 3.02, 2.27, and 1.87 in the reaction systems that showed TCE degradation. However, it was not possible to clearly identify the crystalline minerals having the three peaks from the references in JCPDS cards. This study reveals that the reactive agents in the cement/Fe(II) and the hematite/Fe(II) systems are likely to be those containing CaO and Fe(II).
Structures of hematite(${\alpha}$-Fe2O3), Ba-ferrite(BaFe12O19) and Zn2Y(Ba2Zn2Fe12O22) were studied by powder X-ray diffraction(XRD) method. Powder XRD patterns of the ferrites were analyzed with the Rietveld method, and the final refined R-factors were RWP<0.01 and RI<0.03. The lattice parameters refined with hexagonal crystal system were a=5.0342${\AA}$, c=13.746${\AA}$ for hematite, a=5.8928${\AA}$, c=23.201${\AA}$ for Ba-ferrite, and a=5.8763${\AA}$, c=43.567${\AA}$ for Zn2Y. In the hematite, the oxygen parameter is 0.3072 and the Fe-O distances in FeO6octahedron are 1.941${\AA}$ and 2.118${\AA}$, close to the single crystal data of Blake et al.. In the Ba-ferrite, the Fe atom in oxygen trigonal bipyramid is displaced 0.155${\AA}$ away from the BaO3 mirror plane into 4e position. In the Zn2Y, 75% of Zn is located at the oxygen terahedral site in S-block.
It have been investigated the measured results of the XRF, the X-ray diffractometry and $^{57}Fe\;M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectrum for scoria samples which are distributed throughout different areas in Mid-mountain Area of Jeju island. We consider that the scoria samples are chiefly made of silicate minerals, like $SiO_2$, others silicate minerals and iron oxides minerals. We study that it's materiel is consisted of olivine, pyroxene, ilmenite, hematite and magnetite. Iron compounds in that are $Fe^{2+}$ of olivine, pyroxene, ilmenite and $Fe^{3+}$ of hematite, magnetite et al. The major Fe fractions of the scoria samples are 51.77 wt%, so Fe fractions of the scoria samples are almost 3+ charge state with a little of the 2+ charge state.
Exsolution intergrowth of ilmenite and hematite was studied by the Rietveld refinement method. According to the analysis on these two structural analog minerals, it was found that octahedron (M2) of Ti in ilmenite is in the least deformation, then that (M1) of Fe in ilmenite is deformed next, and octaheron deformation of Fe in hematite is between M1 and M2. High pressure compression experiment was performed up to 5.8 GPa, where two minerals' XRD peaks merged completely. Ilmenite shows normal compression behavior, whereas hematite shrinks in very small amount. This kind of abnormal behavior might be due to the differential response to the applied pressure corresponding to the different compressibilities of the minerals each other.
Slowly cooled $Cu_xFe_{3-x}O_4$ ($\chi$=0.1, 0.2) have been investigated over a temperature range from 82 to 700 K using the M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer technique. X-ray diffraction shows that these have a single-phase cubic spinel structure of lattice parameters $\alpha$=8.396 and 8.398${\AA}$, respectively. Since Cu ions prefer B (octahedral) sites to A (tetrahedral) sites, the ionic distribution is $(Fe)_A[Fe_{2-x}Cu_x]_BO_4$. M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer spectra consisted of two sets of 6-line pattern from. A site in ferric state and B site in ferrous-ferric state. Intensity ratio of B to A subspectra is 1.0 at 82 K and increases to 2.0 at 700 K with increasing temperature. After annealing the samples under vacuum at $450^circ{C}$ for a half hour, x-ray diffraction patterns have the peaks of magnetite- and hematite-phase. Lattice constants of magnetite-phase are 8.395 and 8.392 ${\AA}$ smaller than 8.396 and 8.398 ${\AA}$ before annealing, respectively. M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer spectra reveal the conventional magnetite pattern with the additional hematite pattern. Intensity ratios of B to A subspectra fur magnetite-phase become 1.9-2.0 over all temperature ranges and Cu ions are distributed over A and B sites randomly. Ratios of hematite to total intensity in M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer spectra for $\chi$= 0.1 and $\chi$= 0.2 are 10 and 21%, respectively. These hematite ratios may be due to annealing under vacuum at $450^circ{C}$, which transforms $Cu^{2+}$ ionic states into $Cu^{1+}$. Verwey temperatures far $\chi$= 0.1 and $\chi$= 0.2 are $123\pm2$ K and $128\pm2$ K.

Hematite has been known to be the most stable form of various iron (oxyhydr)oxides in the surface environments. In this study, its properties as an adsorbent were examined and also adsorption of arsenic onto hematite was characterized as well. The specific surface area of hematite synthesized in our laboratory appeared to be $31.8g\;m^2/g$ and its point of zero salt effect, (PZSE) determined by potentiometric titration was observed 8.5. These features of hematite may contribute to high capacity of arsenic adsorption. From several adsorption experiments undertaken at the identical solution concentrations over pH 2~12, the adsorption of As(III) (arsenite) was greater than that of As(V) (arsenate). As of pH-dependent adsorption patterns, in addition, arsenite adsorption gradually increased until pH 9.2 and then sharply decreased with pH, whereas adsorption of arsenate was greatest at pH 2.0 and steadily decreased with the increasing pH from 2 to 12. The characteristics of these pH-dependent adsorption patterns might be caused by combined effects of the variation in the chemical speciation of arsenic and the surface charge of hematite. The experimental results on adsorption kinetics show that adsorption of both arsenic species onto hematite approached equilibrium within 20 h. Additionally, the pseudo-second-order model was evaluated to be the best fit for the adsorption kinetics of arsenic onto hematite, regardless of arsenic species, and the rate constant of As(V) adsorption was investigated to be larger than that of As(III).
Iron ore waste discarded around Choong-ju iron district, Choongchong-Bukdo is as low as 25 per cent of iron, mainly consisting of hematite and magnetite. In this mineral dressing test procedure 93 per cent of magnetite was separated and concentrated into the magnetite concentrate as high as 62 per cent. The remaining sample, mostly, hematite averages about 19.8 per cent of iron which can be concentrated with very good results with the optimum flotation conditioning-pH 3.0 and 3 cc per litre of aero-promoter #845 (0.5% sol.) and 1.5cc per litre of hydro-fluoric acid (40% sol.) and four times of cleaning flotation. Hematite concentrate averages 64.2 per cent of iron. The overall iron concentrate averages 63 per cent of iron with recovery 86 per cent of iron contained.
The kaolin deposits in Hadong-Sancheong area, have been formed by supergene weathering of anorthositic rocks including anorthosite, leucogabbro, and gabbro. Kaolin consists chiefly of halloysite(10$\AA$) and kaolinite with other minerals such as illite, vermiculite, plagioclase, hornblende, quartz amorphous materials(allophane and siica), goethite, and hematite. Goethite and hematite are the major coloring agents of the reddish brown and other colored kaolins. Other common accessory minerals are magnetite, ilmentite, anatase, gibbsite, I/S, C/V, chlorite, lithiophorite, and birnessite. Paragonite, dravite, laumontite, clinozoisite, muscovite, scolecite, stellerite are locally found. Al substitution of Fe in goethite and hematite decreases from the surface zone toward the deeper zone. The kaolin deposits show three horizontal zoning; the upper reddish brown, middle pink, and lower white zones. All the zones are characterized by somewhat different mineralogy. The factors for the formation of kaolin deposits in Hadong-Sancheong area are 1) the presence of anorthositic rocks, 2) the low flat or gentle topography, 3) the favorable climate, and 4) the long-continued preservation of kaolins with-out erosion.

Maghemite and hematite nanospheres were synthesized by using the Sol-gel technique. The structural properties of these nanosphere powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and pore size distribution. Hematite phase shows crystalline structures. The mean particle size that resulted from BET and XRD analyses were 4.9 nm and 2 nm. It can be seen from transmission electron microscopy that the size of the particles are very small which is in good agreement with the FESEM and the X-ray diffraction. The BET and pore size method were employed for specific surface area determination.
For the study of the pigments on lacquer with wooden for comparing a characteristics and chemical structures have been selected samples from tombs at Tanwol-dong, Ch′ungch′ong-do, Hwang-namtaech′ong, Anapchi Lake in Kyongju-shi and Miruksa Site. Analysis showed that red pigments on the lacquer with wooden from Anapchi Lake and Tomb at Tanwol-dong was found to Cinnabar, and those sample sexcavated from Hwang-namtaech′ong have been analyzed to calcite, maghematite and kornelite. In general, red pigments have two components like cinnabar and hematite. Hematite was found that red lacquer at Hwang-namtaech′ong was to beidentified Maghematite caused by their environment air pollution. Cinnabar was handled more valuable than hematite for unchanging characteristics for their colour under same condition since old times.
