A Prediction Model for Health Promoting Behavior of The Korean Elderly (한국노인의 건강행위 예측모형구축)

  • This study was designed to construct a model that predicts the health promoting behavior of the Korean elderly. Data were collected by self-reported questionaires from 254 Korean elderly in seoul, from June 1 to July 15, 1998. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and correlational analysis using pc-SAS program. The Linear Structural Modeling(LISREL) 8.0 program was used to find the best fit model which predicts causal relationships of variables. The overall fit of the hypothetical model to the data was moderate[X$^2$=249.83(df=83, p=.00), RMR=.07, GFI=.90, NNFI=.92, NFI =.91]. The predictable variables of health promoting behavior of the Korean elderly were social activity. social support. self-integrity and helplessness except the perceived health status. These variables explained 17.1% of health promoting behavior of the Korean elderly.

Correlation between Mental Adjustment to Cancer and Anxiety (암환자의 대응양식과 불안과의 관계)

  • Purpose: This study was to identify the relationship between mental adjustment to cancer and anxiety. Method: This study used a cross-sectional descriptive design. A total of 124 ambulatory cancer patients completed the Mental Adjustment to Cancer (MAC) scale and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation. Results: There was a significantly negative correlation between anxiety and fighting spirit which was adaptive adjustment to cancer (r=-0.29, p<0.001). However, anxiety had significantly positive correlation with helplessness/hopelessness (r=0.38, p<0.001), anxious preoccupation (r=0.55, p< 0.001), and fatalism (r=0.22, p<0.05) to cancer. Conclusion: Cancer patients' mental adjustment is correlated with the degree of the psychosocial distress. Anxious preoccupation and helplessness/hopelessness are the most maladaptive adjustments whereas fighting spirit is one of the most adaptive adjustment to cancer.

Psychological Adaptation in Pregnancy and Perception of Birth Experience (임부의 사회심리적 적응과 분만경험 지각에 대한 연구)

  • The purposes of study were to investigate the prenatal psychological adaptation and the perception of birth experience, and to identify the relationship between them. The subjects consisted of 162 women who visited the obstetrical outpatient clinic for prenatal examinations and who delivered the in babies at SNUH during the period from June 20 to August 10, 1990. The tools used for measurement were Lederman's Prenatal Self Evaluation Questionnaire and Marut & Mercer's scale of the Perception of Birth. The results are summarized as follows : 1. The orders and item means of psychosocial adaptation in pregnancy were the Acceptance of pregnancy(1.58). Identification of motherhood role(1.63). Relationship with husband(1.65) and Relationship with mother(1.67). The preparation for labor, concern for wellbeing of self and baby, and fear of pain, helplessness and loss of control were found to be less adaptive. 2. The level of the perception of the birth experience was mid-range(item mean : 3.22). The score of the perception of birth experience for primiparas was higher than for multiparas. However there was not a significant difference the groups. There were significant differences in the perception of the birth experience between certain general characteristics, namely, sex of the baby(p<0.05), type of delivery(p<0.005), and type of anesthesia(p<0.005). 3. There were significant differences in the perception of the birth experience between the groups below the mean and above the mean of concerti for wellbeing of self and baby, Fear of pain, Helplessness and loss of control, Relationship with husband and Identification of motherhood role (p<0.05). The perception of the birth experience was predicted by Fear of pain, Helplessness and loss of control (11%), Type of Delivery(6%), Concern for wellbeing of self and baby(3%), Preparation for labor(1%), sex of baby(1%), Relationship with mother(1%), Parity(1%) and Identification of motherhood role(1%). The Childbirth education should be revised to improve the psychosocial adaptation in pregnancy.

Effects of Cyberbullying Prevention Education (사이버 괴롭힘 대처 예방 교육의 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of cyber bullying prevention education on university students. The subjects were 64 college students and were assigned to experimental group or Comparison group. The experimental group(n = 33) was educated about cyberbullying coping strategies, and the Comparison group(n = 31) was educated about general cyberbullying We used the Basic Emotions Scale, Helplessness Scale, and Competence Scale to confirm the efficacy of the education. Results, Both the experimental group and the Comparison group showed less negative emotions and helplessness after the education than before the education. In the experimental group, competence was significantly higher than the Comparison group. These results suggest that the inclusion of coping strategy is more effective in increasing competence than cyber bullying prevention education. Finally, the limitations of this study were discussed along with suggestions for further research.

Factors influencing the happiness index of elderly patients hospitalized in nursing hospitals Convergence Research (요양병원 입원노인환자의 행복지수 영향요인에 관한 융복합 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to verify the factors influencing the happiness index for elderly patients hospitalized in nursing hospitals with a structural model. A survey was conducted on 237 people in 6 nursing hospitals in G city from July 1 to August 15, 2018, and analyzed with SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 18.0 programs. As a result of the research, the direct effect on the happiness index is the greatest factor, Next, perceived health status, economic status, and nursing satisfaction are in order, and the explanatory power is 66%. Both direct and indirect economic conditions were found to have a significant effect, and hospitalization period only had indirect effects through helplessness and nursing satisfaction. Therefore, development and application of various programs that can reduce the feeling of helplessness and improve the perceived health status. It is believed that an integrated management system, such as support system support and nursing intervention, suitable for each individual situation is needed.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to exploration the experience of turnover new graduate nurses within one year. Methods: Experiential data were collected from 5 experienced nurses through in-depth interviews. The main question was "Could you describe your experience of your turnover?". Qualitative data from the field and transcribed notes were analyzed using Strauss Corbin's grounded theory methodology. Results: The core category of experience of new graduate nurses turnover was 'a feeling of helplessness.' Participants used three interactional strategies: 'rationalize to turnover', 'to feel more', 'to think positively'. Conclusion: If you teach kindly to senior nurse, training communication skills to new nurse and prepare to stable welfare in new nurse, you will can prevent early turnover of new nurse.

  • Cerebrovascular diseases in Korea is an important health problem since mortality and mobidity have been increasing rapidly. Cerebrovascular diseases marked the 2nd rank of cause specific death rate in 1993. The ploblem of emotion after a stroke has received very little attention from the nursing profession until recently. Even the frequency of the emotional disorder after stroke is uncertain, and there has been very little research. Emotional disorder after stroke was related to limited social function, guilty conscience, helplessness, hopelessness, powerlessness, alienation, and damage of self-image. In the stroke patient, hope may be related to a rehabilitation or enhancing physical condition. Inspiring hope is necessary when stroke patients are unable to mobilize energy on their own behalf and perceive limited or no person choices available. Inspiring hope is an intervention that can be used with many nursing diagnoses, especially when feelings of helplessness, hopelessness, powerlessness, and depression are present. The nurse can inspire hope by understanding the hoping process. On the basis of this literature review, the following suggestions are prosed. 1) Qualitative studies on hope have been done to indentify variables that affect maintenance of hope in the chronically ill patients. 2) In the development of an instrument to measure hope, the validity, reliability, and cultural property of the hope have been estabilished.

Relationship between Sense of Belonging, Powerlessness and Nutritional status of Elderly People (노인의 소속감, 무력감과 영양 상태와의 관계)

  • This study was performed to analyze health problems in older adults in a comprehensive manner, including usual living habits, nutritional status, and society psychological factors. Research was conducted by a structured questionnaire by interviews with a test group of 316 people over the age of 65 from April 2012 to August 2012. Elderly people's dietary intake was assessed using NSI (Nutrition Screening Initiative) by the 24-hour retrospective method, and elderly people's feeling of helplessness and sense of belonging were assessed using the measuring device. Material analysis, descriptive statistics, and regression analysis were performed using SPSS. Elderly people with increased age showed higher chances of being in the high-risk and undernourished group. Elderly with high NSI showed low intake of fat, protein, fibrin, vitamin C, E, $B_1$, $B_2$, Niacin, K, Fe, Zn, and Cu than those with low NSI. Findings from this comparative analysis indicate that elderly with better nutritional status showed a lower feeling of helplessness than those with poor nutritional status. Overall, elderly people consumed a b road variety of foods, and social emotional stability of elderly people increased at optimal dietary levels.

Effects of Non-Regular Visiting Nurses' Job Insecurity on Job Satisfaction and Organizational Commitment (비정규직 방문간호사의 직무불안정성이 직무만족, 조직몰입에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify the job insecurity, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment of non-regular visiting nurses working at public health centers, and evaluate the effects of job insecurity on the job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Methods: This study was a descriptive survey study. One hundred forty-three visiting nurses, who were non-regular hired by 16 public health centers in B city, were selected using a convenient sampling method. Results: The results were analyzed using SPSS/Win 21.0. A feeling of helplessness (among job insecurity factors) and retention intention significantly affected the job satisfaction of non-regular visiting nurses, and their explanation power was 20%. Retention intention, a feeling of helplessness, and age significantly influenced the organizational commitment, and their explanation power was 26%. Conclusion: Therefore, it would be necessary to stabilize the employment type, provide appropriate promotion and compensation for nurses according to their work performance, and reduce the number of non-regular employees to increase the job satisfaction and organizational commitment of non-regular visiting nurses.
