A microstructure analysis is carried out to optimize the process parameters of a randomly oriented discrete length hybrid carbon fiber reinforced carbon matrix composite. The composite is fabricated by moulding of a slurry into a preform, followed by hot-pressing and carbonization. Heating rates of 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.5, 1, and $3.3^{\circ}C/min$ and pressures of 5, 10, 15, and 20 MPa are applied during hot-pressing. Matrix precursor to reinforcement weight ratios of 70:30, 50:50, and 30:70 are also considered. A microstructure analysis of the carbon/carbon compacts is performed for each variant. Higher heating rates give bloated compacts whereas low heating rates give bloating-free, fine microstructure compacts. The compacts fabricated at higher pressure have displayed side oozing of molten pitch and discrete length carbon fibers. The microstructure of the compacts fabricated at low pressure shows a lack of densification. The compacts with low matrix precursor to reinforcement weight ratios have insufficient bonding agent to bind the reinforcement whereas the higher matrix precursor to reinforcement weight ratio results in a plaster-like structure. Based on the microstructure analysis, a heating rate of $0.2^{\circ}C/min$, pressure of 15 MPa, and a matrix precursor to reinforcement ratio of 50:50 are found to be optimum w.r.t attaining bloating-free densification and processing time.

This paper presents a hermetic MEMS on-chip package bonded by a closed-loop AuSn solder-line. We design three different package specimens, including a substrate heated specimen without interconnection-line (SHX), a substrate heated specimen with interconnection-line (SHI) and a locally heated specimen with interconnection-line (LHI). Pressurized helium leak test has been carried out for hermetic seal evaluation in addition to the critical pressure test for bonding strength measurement. Substrate heating method (SHX, SHI) requires the bonding time of 40min. at 400min, while local heating method (LHI) requires 4 min. at the heating power of 6.76W. In the hermetic seal test. SHX, SHI and LHI show the leak rates of 5.4$\pm$6.7${\times}$$^{-10}$ mbar-l/s, 13.5$\pm$9.8${\times}$$^{-10}$ mbar-l/s and 18.5$\pm$9.9${\times}$$^{-10}$ mbar-l/s, respectively, for an identical package chamber volume of 6.89$\pm$0.2${\times}$$^{-10}$. In the critical pressure test, no fracture is found in the bonded specimens up to the applied pressure of 1$\pm$0.1MPa, resulting in the minimum bonding strength of 3.53$\pm$0.07MPa. We find that the present on-chip packaging using a closed AuSn solder-line shows strong potential for hermetic MEMS packaging with interconnection-line due to the hermetic seal performance and the shorter bonding time for mass production.

This study proposes an idea for energy saving in apartment machine rooms. A conventional district heating system is equipped with constant-flow pumps and bypass valves to regulate pump differential pressure. Each family unit is equipped with a constant-flow on/off valve. This leads to excessive hot water circulation and a high return temperature. To reduce energy loss, this study assumes that each family unit is renovated with a heating valve which regulates the return temperature at $35^{\circ}C$. The hot water supply pump is also replaced with a pump with an inverter to vary flow rate. Expected energy savings is then estimated from field test data. According to the results, pump electricity consumption was reduced by 6,100 kWh for a family unit building over about half a year. The supply temperature can also be lowered by $5^{\circ}C$, which can contribute to a production of electricity of 10.3 kWh/ton of hot water.

Heat pump systems for commercial building with variable refrigerant flow(VRF) are expanding a market due to high energy efficiency, lower maintenance cost and easy installation comparing with the conventional heat pump with the constant refrigerant flow. In general, heat pump systems degrade the energy efficiency in the extremely low temperature regions. In this study, VRF heat pump system with refrigerant heating is experimentally investigated to overcome the low heating performance in the extremely low temperature regions. VRF heat pump system with refrigerant heating is found out the sufficient heating performance in the -25 degree temperature condition comparing with the conventional heat pump system and is obtained more than 2,500 kPa high pressure in the evaporator at low temperature.
There are many parameters that affect the natural circulation flow, such as height difference, heating power size, pipe diameter, system pressure and inlet temperature and so on. In general analysis the heating power is often regarded as a uniform distribution. The ANSYS-CFX numerical analysis software was used to analyze the flow heat transfer of supercritical water under different heating power distribution conditions. The distribution types of uniform, power increasing, power decreasing and sine function are investigated. Through the analysis, it can be concluded that different power distribution has a great influence on the flow of natural circulation if the total power of heating is constant. It was found that the peak flow of supercritical water natural circulation is maximal when the distribution of heating power is monotonically decreasing, minimal when it is monotonically increasing, and moderate at uniform or the sine type of heating. The simulation results further reveal the supercritical water under different heat transfer conditions on its flow characteristics. It can provide certain theory reference and system design for passive residual heat removal system about supercritical water.
Producing extremely stable high temperature and pressure condition is crucial in order to synthesize novel materials with various functions and to investigate their static and dynamic properties. Already a high pressure in the Mbar range, which is necessary to make novel materials, can be acquired by using a Diamond Anvil Cell (DAC), In this study, a laser-heating system combined with the DAC was designed and installed using two 1064-nm, 100-W fiber lasers on different sides of the DAC to heat the sample and three spectrometers to measure the temperature, pressure, and Raman spectra. A stainless-steel gasket, which is generally used as a sample chamber in high-pressure experiments, was heated to make a thermal radiation source, and the temperature of the heated gasket was obtained by measuring the spectrum of the radiation. By applying this technique, we were able to make various materials and to investigate their physical properties under extreme conditions.
When the suction pressure of compressor decreases under its limit, the compression ratio is increased causing the malfunctions of compressor. As the method to decrease the compression ratio, hot gas bypass system is usually adopted in heat pump system. In the hot gas bypass system, the discharged gas from the compressor is bypassed into the compressor suction, which causes the increase of suction pressure and the decrease of compression ratio. In this study, the characteristics and performances of the hot gas bypass system in heat pump was investigated experimentally with a variation of the bypass flow rate ratio. With the increase of the bypass rate ratio, the compressor suction pressure was increased, even though the total capacity and COP was decreased. From the analysis of the experimental results, the optimum pressure control algorithm was suggested in this study.

Frictional heating in brakes causes thermoelastic distortion of the contacting bodies and hence affects the contact pressure distribution. The resulting thermo-mechanical coupling can cause thermoelastic instability (TEI) if the sliding speed is sufficiently high, leading to non-uniform heating called hot spots and low frequency vibration known as hot judder. The vibration of brakes to the known phenomenon of frictionally-excited thermoelastic instability is estimated studying the interface temperature and pressure evolution with time. A simple model has been considered where a layer with half-thickness ${\alpha}$ slides with speed V between two half-planes which are rigid and non-conducting. The advantage of this properly simple model permits us to deduce analytically the critical conditions for the onset of instability, which is the relation between the critical speed and the growth rate of the interface temperature and pressure. Symmetrical component of pressure and temperature distribution at the layer interfaces can be more unstable than antisymmetrical component. As the thickness ${\alpha}$ reduces, the system becomes more apt to thermoelastic instability. Moreover, the evolution of the system beyond the critical conditions has shown that even if low frequency perturbations are associated with low critical speed, it might be less critical than high frequency perturbations if the working sliding speed is much larger than the actual critical speed of the system.

In this study, the impact of sand and weathered granite soil is analyzed by changing the internal temperature from $20^{\circ}C{\sim}70^{\circ}C$C by installing a heating coil inside the triaxial cell. To check the effect on weathered granite soil due to increase of temperature and number of heating-coiling cycles are analyzed by measuring the temperature by using thermometer installed inside the triaxial cell and due to that deviator stress also occurred during the consolidated undrained test. To analyze the effect of weathered granite soil with change of temperature during undrained testing. The deviator stress and pore pressure is measured. As a result, pore pressure increases and the deviator stress decreases with rise of temperature.
