Transition temperature$(T_m)$ and $enthalpy({\Delta}H)$ were examined by means of DSC to obtain basic information on heat stability of skin tissue collagen. From DSC properties of insoluble collagen on hydration time and moisture content, it was found that moisture content had more effect on structural stability of collagen than hydration time. As moisture content increased, $({\Delta}H)$ increased while $(T_m)$ decreased. DSC properties of acetone dried skin on the variation of age and sex showed higher heat stability in case of male rat and heat stability seemed to be connected with age, as $(T_m)$ and $({\Delta}H)$increased with age. Meanwhile, DSC properties of salt soluble collagen showed higher values in female rat than in male rat, and the $(T_m)$ and $({\Delta}H)$ decreased significantly with age in female rat. These results seemed to suggest indirectly that collagen structure varied with age or sex in the same tissue.
Fluoropolymer of PTFE and PFA etc. is a heat resistance polymeric material that it is known as that maximum continuous use temperature reaches for 260 $^{\circ}C$. It was observed that these polymers had the enough thermal stability so enough that it was kept by thermal aging of 280 $^{\circ}C$/7 weeks too in this study. However, such thermal stability means that bulk material property is kept such as mechanical strength, melting point and initial pyrolysis temperature etc. If these polymers are evaluate by coating property such as surface contact angle, surface morphology, surface scratch, thing that heat resistance is not enough was confirmed in this study. Thermal aging of flouropolymer coating was achieved by gear aging oven that the exchange rate of air was controlled, and the analysis results were indicating serious damage of surface morphology and adhesive strength on metal substrate.
In this paper, the interface stability not to occur mixing and entrainment between the adjacent layers has been studied in the case of the selective withdrawal of a stratum and the injection in stratified fluid formed by the density difference in a small solar pond. There are stability parameter, Richardson number, Rayleigh number and Froude number as the parameters governing stability in order to measure the interface stability on the stratified fluid. The model which could measure the interface stability on the stratified fluid was the small solar pond composed by 1 meters wide, 2 meters high, and 5 meters long. In order to measure the interface stability on the stratified fluid at the inlet port, the middle section and the outlet port, Richardson number, Rayleigh number, and Froude number involved in the parameters governing the stability were calculated by means of the data resulted from the test of the study on hydrodynamic stability between the convective and nonconvective layers in that solar pond. Richardson number written by the ratio of inertia force to buoyancy force can be used in order to measure the stability on the stratified fluid related to the buoyancy force generated from the injection of fluid. Rayleigh number written by the product of Grashof number by Prandtl number can be used in order to measure the stability of the fluid related to the heat flux and diffusivity of viscosity. Froude number written by the ratio of gravity force to inertia force can be used in order to measure the stability of the nonhomogeneous fluid related to the density difference. As the result of calculating the parameters governing stability, the interface stability on the stratified fluid couldn't be identified below the 70cm height from the bottom of the solar pond, but it could be identified above the 70cm height from it at the inlet port, the middle section and the outlet port. When compared with such the three parameters as Richardson number, Rayleigh number, Froude number, the calculated result was in accord with them at inlet port, the middle section and the outlet port. Henceforth, it is learned that even though any of the three parameters is used for the purpose of measuring the interface stability on the stratified fluid, the result will be the same with them. It is concluded that all the use of Richardson number, Rayleigh number, and Froude number, is desirable and infallible to measure the interface stability on the stratified fluid in the case of considering the exist of the fluid flow and the heat flux like the model of the solar pond.
It was investigated the hardness and dimensional stability of heat-compressed wood by compression temperature and time. The surface hardness of heat-compressed wood increased with increasing compression temperature. The lowest hardness value (5.0 N/$mm^2$) was observed in the temperature $70^{\circ}C$ while the highest value (15.6 N/$mm^2$) was obtained in compression temperature $220^{\circ}C$. Dimensional recovery test results showed that fixation of compression set improved with increasing compression temperature. However, the fixation effects were negligible by press time. Contact angle increased with increasing press temperature and time.
Color stability of tooth colored restorative resins is an important factor, particularly in anterior teeth restoration. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the color stability and opacity change of several light curing composite resins. Specimens of eight composite resins(Prisma AP. H., Brilliant Enamel, Charisma, Durafil, Helio Progress, Herculite XR, P-50 and Silux Plus) were divided into two groups : In Group 1, the specimens were polymerized by visible light curing unit for 60 seconds on both sides and in Group 2, the post-cured specimens were heat tempered by light/heat curing unit for 45 units(about 18 min.). All specimens were stored in distilled water at $60^{\circ}C$ for 30 days. The color characteristics($L^*,a^*,b^*$) and opacity of the specimens before and after immersion were measured by spectrocolorimetry and the total color difference(${\Delta}E^*$) and opacity change (${\Delta}Y%$) were computed. The results obtained were as follows : 1. SP and APH in both groups, DF, HP and HXR in Group 1 showed ${\Delta}E^*$-value above 2.0. 2. DF, HP, SP and HXR in Group 1 showed higher ${\Delta}E^*$-value than in Group 2, but the others had no significant difference. 3. The opacity of CH and HXR in Group 1, and of CH and BE in Group 2 decreased after immersion, while that of the others increased. 4. Opacity change of BE, P50 and HXR was significantly different between Group 1 and 2. These results suggest that color change in the post-cure heat tempered specimens by light/heat curing unit was smaller than that of the specimens polymerized by visible light curing unit. No clinically detectable opacity changes were noted for any materials in either goup.

The ground source heat pump (GSHP) system has attracted attention, because of its stability of heat production, and the high efficiency of the system. However, there are few studies on the prediction method of the heat exchange rate for a horizontal GSHP system. In this research, in order to predict the performance of a horizontal GSHP system, coupled simulation with a ground heat transfer model and a heat exchanger circulation model was developed, and calculation of heat exchange rate was conducted by the developed tool. In order to optimally design the horizontal GSHP system, the flow rate of circulation water, and the depth and buried spaces of heat exchangers were considered by the case study. As a result, the temperature of circulation water and the heat exchange rate of the system were calculated in each case.
Friction and wear characteristics of phenolic resin-based friction materials reinforced with aramid pulp and potassium titanate were investigated using a pad-on-disk type friction tester. Friction characteristics such as friction stability, thermal stability, and wear rate varied according to the type of phenolic resins and the relative amount of aramid pulp and potassium titanate. The modified novolac resin-based friction materials showed better heat resistance and friction stability than those with the unmodified(straight) novolac resin. Compared with friction materials filled with potassium titanate or aramid pulp only, the friction materials reinforced with both aramid pulp and potassium titanate showed good friction stability and wear resistance. Increment of aramid pulp from 10 to 20 vol.% however, showed little difference in friction stability.

Pasquill stability class (PSC) was evaluated with Monin-Obukhov length (L) using the data observed at a height of 213m meteorological tower in Tsukuba, Japan. PSC was determined with wind speed and insolation (net radiation at night), and L was calculated with the heat flux and the friction velocity obtained at 25m by the eddy correlation method. To evaluate PSC with L, for every class of Pasquill stability (from A to F class), percentiles and median of L were used. Results show that for every class of Pasquill stability, L varies so widely that PSC does not adequately represent the atmospheric stability conditions. The scheme which estimates L using air temperature at two levels and wind speed at single level was developed. Comparison between estimated L by the scheme and observed L reveals that the scheme is better than PSC. Furthermore, the scheme is more advantageous than PSC because it uses air temperature at two levels instead of insolation which is more difficult to observe in the field than air temperature.

The flex plate, an automotive part which mounts to the automotive engine to transfer torque to transmission, should have considerable hardness and shape accuracy. As a way to produce the flex plate, the hot press forming technology which takes advantages of high formability at elevated temperature, enhanced strength and shape stability was introduced. Therefore, as one of major process parameters the heat treatment condition should be determined to obtain appropriate hardness in the range of manufacturer's specifications. In this study, two heat treatments, austempering and quenching and tempering (QT), were compared as feasible conditions fur the hot press forming of high-carbon tool steel and the hardness and toughness after heat treatments were evaluated. The study showed that both heat treatments resulted in improved hardness but only quenching and tempering showed practicable range of toughness.
Understanding the structural stability of carbon nanostructure under heat treatment is critical for tailoring the thermal properties of carbon-based material at small length scales. We investigate the heat resistance of the single carbon nanoball ($C_{60}$) and carbon nanoonions ($C_{20}@C_{80}$, $C_{20}@C_{80}@C_{180}$, $C_{20}@C_{80}@C_{180}C_{320}$) by performing molecular dynamics simulations. An empirical many-body potential function, Tersoff potential, for carbon is employed to calculate the interaction force among carbon atoms. Simulation results shows that carbon nanoonions are less resistive against heat treatment than single carbon nanoballs. Single carbon nanoballs such $C_{60}$ can resist heat treatment up to 5600 K, however, carbon nanoonions break down after 5100 K. This intriguing result offers insights into understanding the thermal-mechanical coupling phenomena of nanodevices and the complex process of fullerenes' formation.
