  • The life of components under high thermal load is typically shorter than other components. The turbopump turbine of liquid rocket is operated under these environments like high temperature and high centrifugal dorce due to high rotating velocity during operating time. These conditions may often cause low-cycle fatigue problem in the turbopump turbine. First of all, to analyze heat stress, ABAQUS/CAE is used and Coffin-manson's equation is used to consider elasticity and plasticity strain. S.W.T's method is used to consider the mean stress effect, using strain history, low-cycle fatigue analysis is done for turbopump turbine which may have FCL(fracture critical location). In this paper, strain life method is applied to analyze low-cycle fatigue.

  • The cold-formed steel stud, which has been used as a load-bearing member of wall panels for steel houses, poses a significant problem in insulation due to heat bridging of the web. Therefore, some additional thermal insulating materials are required. In order to solve this problem, the cold-formed steel thermal stud with slits in the web was developed. However, estimating the structural strength of thermal studs is very difficult because of the arrangement of perforations. In this paper, an analytical and experimental research on thermal studs is described. Three types of studs with different length, pitch and arrangement of slits were tested to failure. A simple design approach was proposed based on the test results. The proposed method adopted the direct strength method, based on the elastic local and distortional buckling stress of plain studs with equivalent thickness in the web instead of thermal studs. The predictions using the proposed method were compared with test results for verification and the adequacy of the proposed method was confirmed.

  • The past structures were just required bearing capacity to service load, serviceability, and resistance to corrosion. However this point of view has changed after 9.11 terrorism, capacities which can bear impact loading by explosion, and heat by fire happening at the same time, become to be important as a basic condition. The blast resistance capacity of structures is very important part against all over the world is intimidated by terrorism everyday in current point of time. The target of this research is a development of segmented composites and layered structures with high blast resistance using cementitious composites, concrete and FRP composites, which has high tensile strength and ductility, to apply in not only existing facilities but also new ones. Through the improvement of blast resistance, casualties and economic loss can be minimized, and it is possible to diminish the structure collapse and delay the time of structure collapse by thermal effect, impact loading, dynamic loading and high strain.

  • This paper proposes a new Pulse Frequency Modulation(PFM)-Series Boost Capacitor(SBC) full bridge DC/DC Converter which features a high efficiency and high power density. The proposed converter controls the output voltage by varying the voltage across the series boost capacitor according to switching frequency and has no freewheeling period due to 50% fixed duty operation. As a result, its conduction loss is lower than that of the conventional phase shift full bridge converter. Moreover, ZVS of all power switches can be ensured along wide load ranges and output current ripple is very small. Therefore, it has very desirable merits such as a small output inductor, high efficiency, and improved heat generation. This paper performs a rationale and PSIM simulation of the proposed converter. Finally, experimental results from a 1.2kW(12V, 100A) prototype are presented to confirm the operation, validity and features of the proposed converter.

  • The stress condition mainly dominates the thermal conductivity of soils whereas governing factors such as unit weight and porosity suggested by empirical correlations are still valid. The 3D thermal network model enables evaluation of the stress-dependent thermal conductivity of particulate materials generated by discrete element method (DEM). The relationship among dominant factors is analyzed based on the coordination number and porosity determined by stress condition and thermal conductivity of pore fluid. Results show that the variation of thermal conductivity is strongly attributed to the enlargement of inter-particle contact area by loading history and pore fluid conductivity. This study highlights that the anisotropic evolution of thermal conductivity depends on the directional load and that the particle-scale mechanism mainly dictates the heat transfer in soils.

  • Recent research has focused on alternative fuel to improve engine performance and to comply with emission regulation. Finding an alternative fuel and reducing environment pollution are the main goals for future internal combustion engines. The purpose of this study is to obtain low-emission and high-efficiency by hydrogen enriched CNG fuel in SI engine and is to clarify the effects of hydrogen enrichment in CNG fuelled engine on exhaust emission and performance. An experimental study was carried out to obtain fundamental data for performance and emission characteristics of hydrogen enrichment in SI engine. The experiment was conducted at 2500 rpm, bmep 2 bar, 4 bar conditions while CNG fuel was mixed with 10, 20 and 30% hydrogen blends. From the experimental results, combustion duration was shortened due to rapid flame propagation velocity of hydrogen and these were attributed to the burning velocity increasing exponentially with increasing hydrogen blending ratio. Hydrogen has much wider flammable limit than methane, gasoline and the minimum ignition energy is about an order of magnitude lower than for other combustion. By adding hydrogen, $CO_2$ and HC were reduced. However, $NO_X$ was increased dut to high rate of heat release for hydrogen substitutions.

  • To use effectively the solar energy in greenhouse heating, a high performance solar collector should be developed. And then the size of the solar collector and thermal storage tank should be determined through the calculation of heating load. The solar collector must be set in the optimum tilt angle and direction to take daily solar radiation maximally, and the flow rate of heat transfer fluid through the solar collector should be kept in the optimum range. In this research, the performance tests of a capillary tube solar collector were performed to determine the optimum water flow rate and the results summarized as follows. 1. The regressive equations for efficiency estimations of the capillary tube solar collector in the open loop were modeled in the water flow rate of 700-l,000 $\ell$/hr. 2. The optimum water flow rate of the solar collector was estimated by the second order polynomial regression and the maximum efficiency was 80% at the water flow rate of 850 $\ell$/hr. 3. The solar thermal storage system consisted of a capillary tube solar collector and a water storage tank was tested at the water flow rate of 850 $\ell$/hr in the closed loop, and obtained the solar thermal storage efficiency of 55.2%. 4. As the capillary tube solar collector engaged in this experiment was made of non-corrosive polyolefin tubes, its weight was as light as 1/30 of the flat plate solar collector made of copper tubes. Therefore it was considered to be suitable for the greenhouse heating system.

  • It has recently been raised main issue how solve the problem of insufficient energy. One of the solution is to increase the thermal efficiency of power generation system. For the purpose of high efficiency, it is necessary to increase the steam temperature and pressure. So, the use of modified $9{\sim}12%Cr$ steel having superior creep rupture strength and oxidation resistance is required to endure such severe environment. The evaluation of creep properties of those heat resistance material is very important to secure the reliability of high temperature and pressure structural components. Since creep properties are determined by microstructural change such as carbide precipitation and coarsening, It is certain that there are some relationship between creep properties and hardness affected by microstructure. In this study, SP-Creep ruptured test for newly developed 9Cr steel being used as boiler valve material was performed, and creep properties of the material were evaluated. Also, hardness test were performed and hardness results were related to the creep properties such as LMP and creep strength to verify the availability of SP-Creep test as creep test method.

  • Ball screw system is widely used as a precision mechanical linear actuator that translates rotational motion to linear motion for its high efficiency, great stiffness and long life. Recently, according to the requirements of high accuracy and stiffness, the pre-load on the ball screw which means of remove the backlash in the ball screw is usually used. Because of the preload which means the frictional resistance between the screw and nut, becomes a dominating heat source and it generates thermal deformation of ball screw which is the reason for low accuracy of the positioning decision. There are several methods to solve the problem that includes temperature control, thermal stable design and error compensation. In the past years, researchers focused on the error compensation technique for its ability to correct ball screw error effectively rather than the capabilities of careful machine design and manufacturing. Significant amounts of researches have been done to real-time error compensation. But in this paper, we developed a series of cooling methods to get thermal equilibrium in the ball screw system. So we find the optimum cooling type for improving positioning error which caused by thermal deformation in the ball screw system.

  • The Vickers test can be used for all types of materials, and it has one of the widest scales among hardness tests. The hardness may be considered as a probability variable when evaluating the mechanical properties of materials. In this study, we investigate the statistical properties of the bending strength and Vickers hardness in $ZrO_2$ monolithic and $ZrO_2/SiC$ composites depending on the amount of $TiO_2$ additives. The bending strength and Vickers hardness were found to agree well with the Weibull probability distribution. We evaluate the scale parameter and shape parameter in as-received $ZrO_2$ and $ZrO_2/SiC/TiO_2$ ceramics, as well as their heat treated ceramics. We also evaluate the parameters in accordance with the increase in in the indentation load.
