Health is easily overlooked because it doesn’t be changed good or bad due to sudden effort or indifference unexpectedly but kept in daily life. Especially, schoolchildren period, an important lifetime to develop both physically and mentally needs to be helpful to promote the growth of the body and keep well-balanced mind through balanced and nourishing diet. The purpose of this study was to develop nutrition education contents for discretional activities in elementary school. The present educational contents about food and nutrition was analysed in the curriculum of elementary school. The results showed the Korean language(20.8%) included an highest ratio in educational contents about food and nutrition, the next was the courses of physical education and wise life(18.1%, each). As the educational contents about food and nutrition in the textbook were dealt with food information (20.8%), Health․Disease(15.3%), and correct dietary habits by order. We could found more contents in the text for the higher classes than for the lower classes. But the most of the contents appeared lack of structure, profundity and continuity for the systematic nutrition education in its entirety. The developed nutrition education contents for discretional activities in this study consist of korean dinning cultures and foreign dinning cultures, correct dinning etiquette, how to choose healthy food, personal sanitary and health, nutrients and food tower, and problem for children’s nutrition as main subject. This six main subjects were composed of 23 subtitles. The teaching manual consisted of the educational goal, background, teaching plan and effect-evaluation plan, and the notice point for the effective lesson. The teaching plan was made for 30 hours and consisted of cooking course, singing/making lyrics, games in nutrition, debate on dietary habit, and role play etc which are oriented to practical learning. We intended to develop this program that attempts to improve in dietary habit of schoolchildren. It is because once formed an adults dietary habit is difficult to change. Schoolchildren’s period is the best adjustable stage. Therefore, nutrition education in elementary stage can change to dietary habit and build the awareness of health.
The ${\beta}$3-adrenergic receptor (ADRB3) is expressed mainly in visceral adipose tissue and is thought to contribute to lipolysis and the delivery of free fatty acids to the portal vein. This study was aimed at evaluating the association between high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and ADRB3 genetic polymophisms. A total of 991 healthy examinees who were examined in a university hospital, located in Busan City, between May and December 2006 were enrolled in this study. Height, weight, body mass index, waist circumference, and systolic and diastolic blood pressures of the subjects were examined. Intravenous concentrations of fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol, HDL-C, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and triglyceride were also measured. After extracting DNA from the subjects, mutations of the +188T>C (Trp64Arg) of exon 1 and +3893T>C of intron 2 on the ADRB3 gene were genotyped using the single base extension method. We have identified a novel mutation of ADRB3 that is located in intron 2. The frequency of its minor allele was 0.164. Both the +188T>C mutation of exon 1 and +3893T>C mutation of intron 2 were significantly associated with HDL-C. The mean concentration of serum HDL-C was significantly lower in the presence of their minor allele 'C'. These results suggest that both mutations of +188T>C of exon 1 and +3895T>C of intron 2 have significant associations with HDL-C in the Korean population.
Essential oils have been used to treat psychophysiological disorders, but their effects on human electroencephalographic (EEG) activity have not been thoroughly investigated. We evaluated the effects of essential oil of Zizyphus jujuba seeds, a Korean folk medicine known as San-Jo-In, on human EEG activity. For this purpose, essential oil was extracted from San-Jo-In by the supercritical carbon dioxide extraction method. The effect of its inhalation on EEG activity was evaluated by measuring the EEG power spectrum (25 indices) in 20 healthy participants. The results of the EEG power spectrum indicated that the values of the theta wave decreased significantly (p<0.05) in the left (from 17.277 to $13.854{\mu}V$) and right parietal (from 15.324 to $13.020{\mu}V$) regions compared to the other regions. During the inhalation of San-Jo-In oil, the EEG spectrum values of fast alpha, relative gamma, and spectral edge frequency increased 50% compared to those before inhalation. The values of the fast alpha wave increased significantly (p<0.05) in the left prefrontal (from 0.063 to $0.085{\mu}V$), right prefrontal (from 0.064 to $0.085{\mu}V$), and left frontal (from 0.073 to $0.100{\mu}V$) regions following inhalation of the San-Jo-In essential oil. The changes in the EEG activities following inhalation of San-Jo-In suggest that the oil can improve psychological well-being by increasing attention and relaxation.
Pressurization walk training (PWT) with blood flow occlusion has been investigated with regard to muscle hypertrophy and physical fitness function in athletes and healthy people. However, the cardiorespiratory and cardiovascular responses of obese people to PWT are unknown. Thus, we investigated the effects of PWT on body composition (Weight, FM, LBM, %fat, BMI), cardiovascular responses (HR, SV, CO, TVC), and cardiorespiratory responses ($VO_2max$, VEmax, HRmax) in middle-aged obese women. They participated in walk training with (n=15) blood flow occlusion and cross-sectional areas of the quadriceps on both legs. Five sets of 3-min walking (5.5 km/h at 5% grade) and 1-min resting were performed twice a day, 5 days/week for 3 weeks. The results showed that the LBM was significantly increased, and decreased body weight of reducing FM, %bodyfat in PWT ($p$<0.05). For the cardiovascular response, SBP and TPR were significantly decreased ($p$<0.05), and CO increased ($p$<0.05). In addition, the $VO_2max$ and VEmax were improved through PWT. Therefore, this study suggests that the presence of obesity in middle-aged women may result in body composition, cardiorespiratory, and cardiovascular responses caused by PWT.

For patients who have senile mental disorder such as dementia, quantity of excercise and amount of sunlight are important clue for dose and the treatment. Therefore, monitoring health information of daily life is necessary for patients' safety and healthy life. Portable & wearable sensor device and server configuration monitoring data are needed to provide these services for patients. Watch-type device(smart watch) which patients wear and server system are developed in this paper. Smart watch developed includes GPS, accelerometer and illumination sensor, and can obtain real time health information by measuring the position of patients, quantity of exercise and amount of sunlight. Server system includes the sensor data analysis algorithm and web server that doctor and protector can monitor through sensor data acquired from smart watch. The proposed data analysis algorithm acquires quantity of exercise information and detects step count in patients' motion acquired from acceleration sensor and to verify this, the three cases with fast pace, slow pace, and walking pace show 96% of the experimental result. If developed u-Healthcare System for dementia patients is applied, more high-quality medical service can be provided to patients.

Maqui berry are known as one of the "superfoods" and can purportedly improve health. The effects of orally administered maqui berry extract on biological parameters such as serum lipids and blood cells in healthy subjects were investigated in rats in vivo for 2 weeks. Possible causes of harmful effects on liver and kidney function were also examined. After oral administration of maqui berry extract, levels of serum triglyceride (TG) were decreased to almost 30% less from the control, and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) was increased to 18% more; thus, serum lipids profile seemed to be improved. The administration of maqui berry extract increased red blood cell concentration by 10% from the control, while both the hemoglobin and the mean corpuscular volume (MCV) were increased by 12%. Maqui berry extract also increased the concentration of serum total proteins by 30% of the control and that suggests protein metabolism might be improved. Moreover, maqui berry decreased serum levels of glutamin oxaloacetate transaminase (GOT) and glutamin pyruvate transaminase (GPT) by 12% from the control group so maqui berry improved liver function. This study suggests that oral administration of maqui berry extract may be helpful to improve those heath parameters like serum lipids profile, red blood cell level, liver protection. It would also be very useful for the development of high value products such as functional foods and pharmaceutics in the future.
As medical treatment is developing with technology, the men's average life expectancy is extended. Therefore, primary medical care becomes emphasized in order to reduce the medical expenses in the long term by satisfying individual's life being healthy. The date for this thesis was collected from January 2011 to June 2011. 889 patients who visited the university hospital emergency room and hospitalized in internal medicine, were picked as the research subjects and they were targeted to be recorded the distribution of chief complaint and principal diagnosis of the patients. Also, this record was used to apply to the standard Classification of Diseases(as known as ICD) and the method of detailed classification of the primary medical care(as known as ICPC) to compare each other. In order to analysis, frequency analysis was used to see vital statistics and the cross tabulations were used to see the distribution of chief complaint according to ICD and ICPC. Results of the research were Abdominal pain(17.7%), Dyspnea(13.5%), Fever (12.5%), and Haematemesis (9.8%), and those symptoms represented the 54.5% of overall chief complaints that is treated in primary care. Therefore, it is acceptable to use the classification of the primary medical care at doc-in-a-box. Also, in case of diagnosis of abdominal pain, it is classified to R10 in ICD and 116 patients(18.7%) belonged to it, but according to ICPC, it is subdivided to Epigastric(11.5%) and General(5.8%). ICPC classification, which is focused to primary medical care is more detailed than ICD classification. Because the data that is collected for this thesis is from only one hospital, it is hard to represent to all the cases, but ICPC in emergency medical care, it has more classification available and it can subdivide the patients effectively, so it is meaningful.
The deficiency of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine(ACh) is responsible for the initiation of Alzheimer's disease. In addition, there is a simple evidence that oxidative stress significantly increases in persons with Parkinson's disease compared to age-matched healthy persons. Therefore, the objective of the study was to investigate the neurodegeneration inhibitory effect of soybean(Glycine Max) and Yak-Kong(Rhynchosia Nolubilis) by measuring the degree of inhibiting Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) catabolizing the ACh and the free radical scavenger effect in vitro. AChE was measured by the minor modified Ellman assay. Free radical scavenging activity was measured using l-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH). First, the MeOH extracts of Soybean and Yak-Kong showed the AChE inhibiting activity of 62.0$\pm$2.43% and 65.0$\pm$3.29% at the 5 mg/$m\ell$ concentration. The 50% inhibitory concentration ($IC_{50}$/) of AChE was 1.96 and 1.31 mg/$m\ell$ in the MeOH extracts of soybean and Yak-Kong. Second, the MeOH extracts of soybean and Yak-Kong showed the free radical scavenger activity of 23.1$\pm$4.26% and 80.7$\pm$4.61% at the 5 mg/$m\ell$. IC50 of free radical scavenger activity in Soybean and Yak-Kong was 13.00 and 1.41 mg/$m\ell$ in MeOH extracts and was 5.95 and 2.74 mg/$m\ell$ in hot-water extracts, respectively. In this study, the extracts of Soybean and Yak-Kong showed powerful effects in the AChE inhibition and free radical scavenging. The extracts of Soybean and Yak-Kong were expected to prevent the many neurodegenerative diseases.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the biological activities and quality properties of macaroons made with GABA rice powder and xylose. GABA rice powder was added to macaroons at weight percentages of 0, 2.5, and 3.5%. Hunter's color values ($L^*$, $a^*$, $b^*$), total sugar contents, total phenolics, ABTS and DPPH radical scavenging activities, textures, and sensory characteristics supplemented with different xylose and GABA rice powder contents were measured. As the ratio of GABA rice powder in macaroons increased, total phenol contents and ABTS and DPPH radical scavenging activities increased. In the texture profile analysis, fracturability and brittleness were lower as GABA rice powder content increased. In the sensory evaluation, significant differences (p<0.05) were observed in color, sweetness, texture, and overall acceptability depending on the addition of GABA rice powder to macaroons. Overall qualities of macaroons were different from GABA rice powder and xylose added ones. Therefore, xylose and GABA rice powder may be used to make healthy macaroons.
The purpose of this study was to determine the awareness and preference relating to traditional food and yaksun food by university students majoring in culinary art and foodservice in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk area. This research carried out an investigation on 492 (male 257 and female 235) students. 'Awareness of traditional food' was gained through school education in male students (37.4%) and female students (46.7%). For 'the most-favored traditional food', 260 (male 138 and female 122) students most often responded galbijjim, followed by bibimbap, bulgogi, and kimchi. For 'the part that requires the attention most in improving traditional food', variety of taste received the highest votes by 109 male students (42.4%) and 98 female students (41.7%). For 'awareness for yaksun food', the most popular paths were TV, newspaper and the Internet in 123 male students (47.9%) and 139 female students (59.1%), where as 97 students answered school education (19.7%). For 'the part that requires the attention most in developing yaksun food', variety of taste received the highest votes by 103 male students (43.8%) and 106 female students (41.2%), which was the same result for the development of traditional food. For 'awareness on the possibility of popularization of traditional and yaksun food', needs for food development received the highest score of 3.99 (male 3.99 and female 3.99) by 5-point Likert measurement. In conclusion, high awareness levels of health, traditional food, and yaksun food in university students in Daegu and Gyeongbuk majoring in food-service will contribute to a healthy food culture. Further, this research will have a large impact on development of various convenience foods in the food-service industry as well as home.
