A Study on Functional Movement Screen and Automobile Worker's Musculoskeletal Disorders

  • Objective: The aim of this study is to figure out the level of Functional Movement Screen (FMS) of 122 automobile manufacturing workers and to set the FMS score for predicting risk of musculoskeletal disorders. Background: Although today's industrial sites have been becoming automated rapidly, the risks of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) have been on the rise. In the case of WMSDs, it is important to control WMSDs at the early stage. Early detection of WMSDs is very important for the successful treatment. However, the medical examination puts a great financial burden on most workers. To reduce their burden, there is one test to check the musculoskeletal functional condition and to predict the risk of injury, which is called FMS. Method: This research tested the FMS score of 122 workers at a motor company, and also conducted a questionnaire survey of individual characteristics and job characteristics. Results: For the 122 subjects, the average score of FMS is $14.63{\pm}2.27$. There is a negative correlation between FMS and their ages and BMI (p <0.05). FMS is higher when exercising regularly (p <0.05). The FMS scores of musculoskeletal disorder patients are lower than those of normal workers (p <0.05). While it is more likely to become a musculoskeletal disorder patient when FMS score is less than 14, it is more likely to become a normal worker when FMS score is more than or equal to 14. Conclusion: According to the result of FMS test, there is a score difference between individuals with musculoskeletal disorders and normal ones. FMS scores can also predict and identify workers with risk of the musculoskeletal disorders. Application: According to this study, FMS can be expected to have a positive effect on the prevention of WMSDs in worksites.

은퇴태도와 은퇴계획수준의 인과관계에 관한 연구 (Causal Effects on Attitude toward Retirement and the Level of Retirement Planning)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the affecting factors on male salary workers' level of retirement planning. The focus was on the causal effects on salary workers' attitude toward retirement and their level of retirement planning. The major findings were as follows.: First, the salary worker's attitude toward retirement was neutral, neither positive nor negative, and they estimated their level of retirement planning relatively high. Second, the major factors affecting on attitude toward retirement were salary workers' age, their current economic status, and future perspectives for the post-retirement life. Third, the major affecting factors on level of retirement planning were salary workers' age, health status, and level of self-esteem, household net asset, savings and investment for elderly life, and attitude toward retirement. forth, the causal effects on the level of retirement planning was verified, and attitude toward retirement had direct effect as well as indirect effect on the level of retirement planning. From the findings, it can be concluded that the salary workers' attitude toward retirement played a important role in the process of retirement planning.

치과위생사의 직업몰입 영향요인 연구 (Determinants of Occupational Commitment of Dental Hygienists)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the determinants of the occupational commitment of dental hygienists in Korea. The independent variables contain three groups of work rewards variables which consist of task reward variables (autonomy, job significance, resource adequacy, role conflict, workload, and routinization), social reward variables(supervisory support, co-worker support, and negative affectivity), and organizational reward variables(job security and promotional chances), and eight sociodemographic variables. The sample of this study consisted of 474 dental hygienists who work at general hospitals, university hospitals, dental hospitals and clinics across the nation. Data were collected with self-administered questionnaires and analyzed using hierarchical regression technique. It was found that: (1) job significance have a significant positive effect on the occupational commitment of dental hygienists; (2) role conflict, workload, routinization, and type of work site have significant negative effect on the occupational commitment of dental hygienists; (3) the study model explains 23.7% of the variance in occupational commitment among dental hygienists. The results of the study indicate that managers of dental clinics and hospitals should make efforts to extend the scope and quality of dental hygienists' work through job enlargement and job enrichment.

염화비닐 노출 근로자의 요중 Malondialdehyde 농도 수준 (The level of urinary malondialdehyde concentrations in vinyl chloride monomer exposure workers)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate whether the exposure to vinyl chloride monomer(VCM) induces lipid peroxidation in workers by evaluating the concentration of malondialdehyde(MDA) in the urine in order to assess worker's oxidative stress due to exposure of vinyl chloride monomer. The subjects investigated in the study were divided into the experimental group; 18 workers exposed to VCM, and the control group; 19 workers unexposed to VCM. A gas chromatography/pulsed flame photometric detector(GC/PFPD) was utilized to analyze thiodiglycolic acid(TDGA), which was methylated with trimethylsilyldiazomethane (2.0M in diethyl ether) in urine and the urinary MDA, the product of lipid peroxidation, was determined by high-performance liquid chromatography/ultraviolet-visible detector after derivatized with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine(DNPH). The concentrations of urinary TDGA in controls and VCM exposure workers were 0.13(2.01)mg/g Cr. GM(GSD) and 0.35(1.96)mg/gCr. GM(GSD), respectively. The concentrations of urinary MDA were $0.12(2.21){\mu}mol/gCr$. GM(GSD) in controls and $1.35(1.79){\mu}mol/gCr$. GM(GSD) in VCM exposure workers. As a result of simple regressions analysis between urinary concentration of TDGA and MDA in VCM exposure workers, it was found that the $R^2$ value was 0.261 (p=0.03) and the drinking and smoking did not affect their level. In conclusion, the workers exposed to VCM have a potentially to suffered by oxidative stress due to VCM exposure and the urinary MDA can be applicable to the marker of effect to assess the level of worker's VCM exposure.

운동프로그램의 효과 -소규모사업장 근로자를 대상으로- (Effects of Exercise Program for Workers in Small Enterprises)

  • Physical activity is one of important factors of the chronic disease. It was reported that Most of Korean workers didn't take exercise regularly. The purpose of this study is testing effects of exercise program, based on the Theory of Planned Behavior. 30 subjects participating in this study are workers in small enterprises and have not taken exercise regularly. Exercise program, which includes education, support, monitoring, and counseling, was conducted for 6 weeks. Effects of this program was evaluated by the change of exercise, attitude, subjective norm, perceived control. intention of exercise, perceived health states, and fatigue. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: 1. There was the significant difference between pre and post-test in the subjective norm, perceived control. and intention of exercise, but not the significant difference in the attitude of exercise. 2. 53.3% of the subject of this study had taken exercise regulary in the post-test. 3. There was not the significant difference in the perceived health states and fatigue, From the results, it can be concluded that the exercise program is effective, leading to the change of intention and exercise rate. On the other hand, it was not effective in Physiological aspects. It seems that these result was due to short term program. Thus, it can be recommended that studies are needed with longer term program and larger sample.

근로자의 건강행위가 주관적 수면문제에 미치는 영향 (Effect of the Health Behaviors on Subjective Sleep Problems in an Employees)

  • 우리나라 근로자는 오랜 시간 노동을 하는 것으로 잘 알려져 있으며, 이로 인해 건강하지 않은 생활습관으로 변하고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 근로자의 건강행위가 수면문제에 영향을 미치는 관련 요인을 파악하고자 하였다. 본 연구에서는 제3차 근로환경조사 자료를 활용하여 2011년 기준 임금근로자 34,788명을 대상으로 분석하였다. 분석결과 남성 근로자의 수면문제 경험은 2.5% 이었고 여성 근로자의 수면문제 경험은 2.3% 이었다. 직업적 특성을 보정한 후 회귀분석을 한 결과, 고혈압이 있는 근로자에서 2.26배, 비만 판정을 받은 근로자에서 2.21배, 우울증이 있는 근로자에서 26.82배 그리고 업무상 스트레스가 높은 근로자에서 2.02배로 수면 문제를 발생할 위험이 높았다. 따라서 수면 건강으로부터 취약한 근로자에 대해서는 다양한 건강관리 사업이 제공되어야 할 것이다.

제조업 남성 이주노동자의 직무스트레스와 수면의 질이 우울수준에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Occupational Stress and Sleep Quality on Depression among Male Immigrant Workers Manufacturing Industry, Korea)

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to assess the level of depression and its association with sociodemographic characteristics and health related characteristics, job-related characteristics, sleep quality, occupational stress among manufacturing male immigrant worker in Korea. Methods: Total number of subject were 287 workers employed in 19 manufacturing industry. A structured self-administered questionnaire was used to assess each responder's sociodemographic and health related characteristics, job-related characteristics, sleep quality (PSQI), Korean occupational stress (KOSS), Depression (CES-D). The job stress questionna ire was used according to KOSS-26 and depression symptoms were measured using CES-D, which was translated into Korean. We used multiple logistic regression analysis to assess the relationship between risk factors included job stress, sleep quality and depression. Results: The prevalence of depression in survey subjects was 63.9%and poor group (PSQI) (5 point and over at PSQI score)among all subjects were 83.28%. Adjusting for confounding factor, higher the occupational stress (KOSS), depression levels were significantly higher (${\beta}=0.5575$), worse quality of sleep, the more depressed the level was slightly high ${\beta}=0.118$) did not reach statistical significance. Conclusions: The prevalence of depressive symptoms among the study subjects was higher than that among the Korean workers. Especially, the level of depression was more influenced by occupational stress than quality of sleep. Therefore, the author recommend to prepare the effective strategy for reducing the depression and also reducing the occupational stress among immigrant male workers, and the author consider that it need to support the convenient working environment such as consultation for difficulty or health care among immigrant male workers.

전동칫솔의 작동횟수에 따른 치면세균막 제거율에 관한 융합연구 (An convergence study on the effect of plaque removal through the number of operations of the electric toothbrushes)

  • 본 연구는 진동회전 방식의 전동칫솔의 진동, 회전에 따른 치면세균막 제거율을 실험하여 전동칫솔 선택의 폭을 넓히고자 하였다. 진동회전타입의 전동칫솔 중 진동회전수가 다른 칫솔 3가지를 선정하였다. A: Oral-B D12(7,600회 회전), B: Oral-B D16(20,000회 진동, 7,600회 회전), C: Oral-B D20(40,000회 진동, 8,800회 회전). 세가지 칫솔의 세정력을 확인하기 위해 인공치면세균막을 치아에 1회, 2회, 3회 코팅하여 각 10회씩 2초간 세정하였다. 실험 후 잔여치면세균막를 촬영하여 Image J 프로그램을 활용하여 분석하였다(p<0.05). 연구에 따르면, 코팅한 모든 치면의치면세균막 제거율이 C칫솔이 가장 높았다. 연구결과를 토대로 치과종사자는 구강위생환경을 평가 한 후, 구강상태에 따른 적절한 칫솔의 추천과 교육이 필요할 것으로 사료된다.

사회복지사의 이직의도 억제와 관련된 변인에 대한 메타회귀분석 (A Meta-regression Analysis on Related Protective Variables of social worker's Turnover Intentions)

  • 본 연구는 지난 15년간의' 사회복지사의 이직의도'와 관련된 논문을 바탕으로 이직의도 억제 변인들의 효과크기를 메타분석을 통해 검증하고, 메타회귀분석을 통해 출판연도에 따른 변화추이를 검증하므로 이직억제를 위한 정책방안과 후속 연구의 연구방향을 제시하고자 하였다. 연구결과 억제변인에 대한 전체효과크기는 중간효과크기로 나타났다. 변인군 별 하부 변인의 효과크기는 개인특성변인군이 급여수준, 연령과 결혼여부, 근무기간, 이직경험, 학력수준, 근무형태 순으로 나타났으며, 직무특성변인군은 직무만족, 근무환경, 직무중요성, 상사와 동료관계, 직무자율성 순으로 나타났다. 또한 조직특성변인군 효과크기는 조직몰입, 조직헌신, 승진기회, 보상만족, 조직 내 공정성, 참여적 의사결정 순으로 나타났다. 출판연도에 따른 변화추이는 2015년도에 가까울수록 억제변인들의 효과크기가 낮아지는 것으로 나타났다.

전자제품 제조업 교대 근로자의 성별에 따른 수면의 질과 피로도 차이 (Differences in sleep quality and fatigue according to gender of shift workers in electronics manufacturing industries)

  • Objectives: Sleep quality is directly related to the health, quality of life and working capacity and is affected by age, gender, exercise, life habits. Gender dissimilarities in sleep quality are acknowledged. However, the gender difference in the quality of sleep in shift workers was not well known. Our aim was to study the less known gender differences in the quality of sleep of shift workers. Methods: 1,008 study subjects aged between 21 and 57 years among these, 637(525 male and 112 female workers) were daytime workers and 371(253 males and 118 female workers) were shift workers. Sleep quality was measured by self-report through the Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index(PSQI) and fatigue was measured by using the Chalder Fatigue Scale(CFS). All data was analyzed using SPSS version 19.0 program. The study was approved by the Institutional Review Board of the Occupational Safety and Health Research Institute. Results: Overall, sleep quality was found to be worse in shift workers than in daytime workers and in female than in male. Fatigue in shift female workers was significantly higher than in daytime female workers and shift male workers. In Spearman correlation analysis results, fatigue were significantly associated with gender, drink habit, regular exercise, working hours and sleep quality. With group male workers as the reference, the odds ratio(OR) for having a CFS was 2.115(${\beta}$ value=0.749, p<0.01), and subjective sleep quality, sleep latency, daytime dysfunction and PSQI were 1.541(${\beta}$ value=0.432, p<0.05), 2.297(${\beta}$ value=0.831, p<0.001), 1.798(${\beta}$ value=0.587, p<0.01) and 2.224(${\beta}$ value=0.799, p<0.01), respectively. Conclusions: Shift work played an important role in lowering the quality of sleep, and the effect was more pronounced in female workers than in male workers. Sleep quality was related to fatigue, especially sleep quality, sleep duration, sleep disturbances and daytime dysfunction were significantly related. Therefore, to improve fatigue and sleep quality of shift worker, it is necessary to improve healthy habits such as regular exercise, smoking cessation, and limited drinking. In particular, it is urgent to develop and implement a regular exercise program to reduce fatigue and improve the quality of sleep in workplace.
