Recently, The number of hypertension is increasing with westernized diet and lack of exercise. Many researchers are trying to treat and prevent hypertension by exercise therapy. However, not only did most of studies analyze the effect and usefulness of exercise related to lowering hypertension, but also there is no analysis of the difference of fitness with regard to hypertension according to ages. It is assumed to be important research work to be continued to identify, from the public health's point of view, the difference of fitness with regard to hypertension according to ages can be a essential data for treating and preventing hypertension. Thus, this study is to identify the difference of fitness according to hypertension of adult female over 20s and emphasize the importance of fitness level to the hypertension. Also, this study is to devise valuable study by examining the difference of cardiovascular function. Subjects were 8889 of adult female over 20s. Subjects visited promotion of health center at Y Gu public health center and took comprehensive medical test including hypertension test in Seoul in Korea. It was divided into normal, prehypertension, stage I hypertension and stage II hypertension group by JNC7. The evaluation of cardiorespiratory function was by resting heart rate and lung capacity, the evaluation of fitness was by cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular endurance, muscular strength, power, agility, balance, and flexibility, and the difference of fitness was analyzed by ANCOVA revising independent variable of BMI, drinking, and smoking which affects hypertension. At result, there was significant difference between normal and hypertension group according to most ages in two variable of all cardiorespiratory function, seven fitness variable. Through this study, it was defined that hypertension group had lower cardiorespiratory function and fitness than normal group.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of Hatha Yoga exercise on the body composition, serum lipids, and health-related fitness of obese middle-aged women. The subjects in the Hatha Yoga exercise group (n=9) were 18 obese middle-aged women that trained for 16 weeks and a control group (n=9). Body composition, serum lipids, and health-related fitness were measured in all of the subjects before the start of the training program and at the end of the 16 weeks. The findings of this study were as follows. Body weight, %BF, BMI, WHR, VFA, TC, TG, LDL-C, FFA, and HOMA-IR significantly decreased, whereas LBM, HDL-C, grip strength, back strength, push-ups, sit-ups, Harvard step test, and sitting trunk flexion significantly increased in the Hatha Yoga exercise group after 16 weeks. Therefore, regular and continuous Yoga exercise was effective in improving body composition, serum lipids, and health-related fitness. Consequently, Yoga exercise could be effective for preventing cardiovascular disease caused by obesity in middle-aged women.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of a 12 week aerobic resistance training circuit program on the health-related fitness, blood lipids, and cortisol in obese postmenopausal women. The subjects for the study were twenty obese postmenopausal women composed of the exercise group (n=10) and "no exercise" control group (n=10). The aerobic resistance training circuit program was conducted for 70 minutes 3 times a week for 12 weeks, in which the aerobic exercise consisted of 5 items each composed of 5 sets of aerobic exercise at 50-70% HRmax intensity for 1 minute for a total of 25 minutes and the resistance exercise consisted of 8 items conducted for a total of 25 minutes at 40-60% intensity of 1RM). In the exercise group, the body weight and BMI significantly decreased and the 20m shuttle run, sit-ups and sitting trunk flexion significantly increased. In the exercise group, the TC, LDL-C, and TG significantly decreased. Also, it was noted that the HDL-C was slightly higher in the exercise group than in the control group, but the difference was not statistically significant. The cortisol levels of the exercise group and control group at baseline were similar. However, after the aerobic resistance training circuit program, the exercise group had a significantly higher cortisol level than the control group. Therefore, regular and continuous aerobic resistance training was effective in improving the body composition, blood lipids and health-related fitness.
Purpose: The purposes of this study were to investigate the effectiveness of Pilates exercise on Fitness Factors related to motor performance including flexibility, agility, power, balance, and muscle endurance. Methods: Forty subjects were randomly allocated to one of two groups. The Pilates group did Pilates exercises 3 times a week for 8weeks, 60 minutes each time, and submitted to evaluation of protocols to assess sitting and reaching tests, a standing broad jump test, a side step test, a balance test using a Biodex Stability System, and muscle endurance using CSMI. Results: The Pilates group (n=20) participated in Pilates exercises three times in a week for eight weeks. The results show significant post-test differences in the Pilates group in the following areas: flexibility, agility, power, balance and muscle endurance. There was no significant increase in the control group. Post-exercise, there was no significant difference between the Pilates and control group. Conclusion: The Pilates method can offer significant improvement in personal flexibility, agility, power, balance, and muscle endurance. This study suggests that individuals can improve their Fitness Factors related to motor performance using Pilates exercises that do not require equipment or a high degree of skill. Further study is required to quantify the benefits of Pilates exercise.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to test a hypothetical model of health-related quality of life in patients with heart failure. The hypothetical model was derived from the Wilson and Cleary's model, the Rector's model, and published research findings. Methods: Data from 103 patients with heart failure were analyzed to determine the best multivariate health-related quality of life model given variables derived from the prior studies. The statistics programs SPSS 12.0 and LISREL 8.7 program were used for descriptive statistics and covariance structure analysis respectively. Results: The overall fitness of the path final model was good(GFI=.97, AGFI=.95, NNFI=1.06, NFI=.96, p=.96). Symptoms were directly affected by gender. HYHA Class was directly affected by only gender. Physical functioning limitation was directly affected by exercise. Health perception was directly affected by economics, symptom, and physical functioning limitation. Depression was directly affected by exercise and health perception. Heath-related quality of life was directly affected by physical functioning limitation and depression, indirectly affected by gender, economics, exercise, symptoms, NYHA Class, and health perception. This path analysis model explained 51% of health-related quality of life in patients with heart failure. Conclusion: To improve of health-related quality of life with heart failure patients, it is necessary to make nursing interventions for physical functioning and depression.
Purpose: This study was designed to construct a structural model for explaining model health-related quality of life in acquired people with physical disabilities. Method: The hypothetical model of this study was consisted of 6 latent variables and 14 observed variables. Exogenous variables included in this model were physical status and economical level. Endogenous variables were social attitudes, family function, self-esteem, and health-related quality of life. Data were collected from 226 acquired people with physical disabilities residing in Seoul and Kyunggi-do from January to February, 2005. The collected data were analyzed using SAS 8.2 version and LISREL 8.32 version program. Results: The results of the fitness test of the modified model were follow as; ${\chi}^2=67.479$ (df=50, p=.05), GFI=.959, AGFI=.914, SRMR=.049, NFI=.961, NNFI=.979, CN=249.244. Health-related quality of life was influenced directly by physical status, economic level, and social attitudes and accounted for 88.8% of the variance by these factors. Conclusion: These results suggest that physical status is the most significant effect on health-related quality of life, and social attitudes and economic level are important factors having influences on health- related quality of life. Therefore improving physical status and economic level, and modifying negative attitudes are necessary to increase health-related quality of life of acquired people with acquired physical disabilities.
This study was aimed to examine the effects of intermittent walking on health related fitness and metabolic syndrome risk factors in elderly women. Forty five elderly women were randomly assigned to three groups: three 10-min walks per day, one 30-min walk per day or no exercise, respectively. Both walking groups exercised three days a week at moderate intensity for 12 weeks. Two-way repeated measures ANOVA was used to test the hypothesis with a significant level of α = .05. The results indicated that body composition(body weight, body mass index, percent body fat), muscle endurance, flexibility and cardiorespiratory fitness significantly increased after 12 weeks for both walking groups. However, it was found that muscle strength significantly increased only in a continuous walking group. Metabolic syndrome risk factors comprised of waist circumference, systolic blood pressure, triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein, and fasting glucose were significantly improved in both walking groups. In addition, there was a difference in these metabolic syndrome risk factors between pre and post exercise. The results of this study support the hypothesis that intermittent walking has a significant impact on health related physical fitness and metabolic syndrome rick factors in elderly women as continuous walking does.
The purpose of the this study was to examine the comparison of bone mineral density and health related physical fitness induced exercise habits, drinking habits and salt consumption habits on middle-age women. Using a cross-sectional approach, we studied 331 middle-age women who visited the C health center. Subjects were divided into 3 groups depended on exercise habits(sedentary, exercise less than twice a week and more than three time a week), 3 groups depended on drinking habits(non-drinker, low drinker, high drinker), also 3 groups depended on salt consumption habits(low, middle, high), respectively. We measured bone mineral density and health related physical fitness. One-way ANOVA were used to assess differences among 3 groups divided on life habits. Significance was accepted at p<.05. Exercise habits showed significant difference in BMD & % body fat. But another variables showed no significant difference. Also, drinking and salt consumption habits showed no significant differences among the groups. This study suggests that regular exercise can improve bone health and body fat.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics and the current condition of musculoskeletal pain sufferers among fitness center users. The investigation used self-reporting questionnaire with the 797 subjects. On average, the subjects were 30.6 years old, 168.8 cm in height and 65.2 kg in weight. Among them, 423 were male (53.1%) and 374 were female (46.9%). Out of them, 276 suffered from pain, (35.2%). More men felt muscle aches than women (p<.05). In terms of pain, lower back area topped the list with 44.9%, followed by the lower extremities (30.1%), the neck (17.8%) and the upper part of the body (17.8%). Dieters suffered the most from pain (86.2%) while those exercising to build strength suffered the least with 26.8%. There was a significant relationship between the purpose for exercising and the amount of pain suffered (p<.05). By kind of exercise, pain stroke aerobic exercisers disproportionately with 42.4% while it almost steered clear of exercisers for strengthening with 26.9%. There was significant relationship between the kind of exercise and pain suffered (p<.05). The type of suffering differed by body shape. A significantly higher number of overweight people experienced pain than underweight people (p<.05). 32.8% of pain sufferers commented that the pain affects their workout, and on this issue there was no gender difference (p>.05). The pain caused more difficulties in doing activities of daily living for overweight or obese peoples than underweight peoples (p<.05). More than a third of health club and fitness center users are experiencing musculoskeletal pains. Measures such as professional training or information provision is required to prevent injury or disorder caused by improper exercise.
The present study explored how 1) individuals' perception about attributes of exercise/fitness apps and 2) their motivation for exercise/fitness behaviors influence perceived usefulness and usage of the apps. A survey of 323 males and females in their 20's and 30's revealed that attributes of apps that satisfy their basic psychological needs are crucial in promoting perceived usefulness and usage of the apps. Participants were more likely to perceive exercise/fitness apps useful as they perceive them having more attributes related to autonomy and competence. The perception regarding relatedness attributes did not have the main effect on perceived usefulness but showed an interaction effect with relative autonomous motivation. This convergence study which examined health apps from the perspectives of psychology and public health provides practical implications to development and evaluation of health apps.
