The increased transport of marine hazardous and noxious substances (HNS) has resulted in frequent HNS spill accidents domestically and internationally. There are about 6,000 species of HNS internationally, and most of them have toxic properties. When an accidental HNS spill occurs, it can destroys the marine ecosystem and can damage life and property due to explosion and fire. Constructing a spectral library of HNS according to wavelength and developing a detection algorithm would help prepare for accidents. In this study, a ground HNS spill experiment was conducted in France. The toluene spectrum was determined through hyperspectral sensor measurements. HNS present in the hyperspectral images were detected by applying the spectral mixture algorithm. Preprocessing principal component analysis (PCA) removed noise and performed dimensional compression. The endmember spectra of toluene and seawater were extracted through the N-FINDR technique. By calculating the abundance fraction of toluene and seawater based on the spectrum, the detection accuracy of HNS in all pixels was presented as a probability. The probability was compared with radiance images at a wavelength of 418.15 nm to select abundance fractions with maximum detection accuracy. The accuracy exceeded 99% at a ratio of approximately 42%. Response to marine spills of HNS are presently impeded by the restricted access to the site because of high risk of exposure to toxic compounds. The present experimental and detection results could help estimate the area of contamination with HNS based on hyperspectral remote sensing.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) have known as potentially hazardous air pollutants(HAPs0 to human health because of its carcinogenic and mutagenic behaviors. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of 6 PAHs(Fluoranthene, Pyrene, Benzo[a]anthracene, Chrysene, Benzo[b]fluoranthene, and Benzo[a]pyrene) as well as 10 inorganic elements(Cr, Na, K, Zn, Pb, Fe, Cu, Ti, Al and Cd) in the ambient PM-10. The total of 115 samples had been collected from February, 1996 to June, 1996 on quartz fiber by a PM-10 high volume air sampler near the Yong-Tong Apartment complexes. A statistical analysis was performed for the PAHs and inorganic elements data set using a principal component analysis in order to identify qualitatively the potential sources of PM-10. A total of 6 principal components were separated by intensive data pretrement and transformation processes, such as soil, refuse incineration, oil burning, coal burning, field burning, vehicle emission sources. The results showed that PAHs were associated with various burning activities like refuse and field burning, coal burning, and oil burning emissions in the study area. These derived sources were well matched with the previously known source profiles in terms of compositonal order and level of measured species. The combination data set consisted of both organic and inorganic species might provide more powerful source signature and might increase the number of potentially derived sources than PAHs or inorganic data alone.

The present study investigated the food component characteristics of a bone-softened mackerel Scomber japonicus product (FC-M). The proximate composition of the FC-M was 57.4% moisture, 25.2% crude protein, 14.1% crude lipid, and 2.7% ash. The energy in the FC-M was 241.5 kcal/100 g, which corresponds to 8.9-16.1% of the daily energy intake recommended for Koreans ${\geq}6$ years of age. Regardless of type of taste, there were no significant differences in taste intensity when the FC-M was compared to a control (canned mackerel) but the odor intensity was significantly higher. Although there were no significant differences in hardness, the Hunter color values of redness and yellowness were significantly lower than those of the control. The sensory score for the FC-M was significantly superior to that of the control. The total amino acid content in the FC-M was 24.12 g/100 g and the major amino acids were aspartic acid, glutamic acid, leucine, and histidine. The major fatty acids in the FC-M were 16:0, 18:1n-9, 20:5n-3, and 22:6n-3 and the FC-M was a good source of minerals.
Simultaneous removal technology of particulate/NOx/SOx/HCl using CuO/3Al$_2$O$_3$ㆍ2SiO$_2$catalyst impregnated ceramic candle filters is an advanced air pollution process and provides significantly to reduce hazardous gases emitted from coal-fired power plant. This process uses a high-temperature catalytic filter for integrating SOx and HCl reduction through injection an alkali sorbent (such as hydrated lime or sodium bicarbonate), NOx removal through ammonia injection and selective catalytic reduction (SCR), and particulate collection on the catalytic filter surface. The advantages of the process include : compact integration of the emission control technologies into a single component; easy handling of dry sorbent and by-product; and improved SCR catalytic life due to lowered SOx, HCl and particulate levels. CuO/3Al$_2$O$_3$ㆍ2SiO$_2$ catalyst impregnated ceramic candle filters showed a possibility of simultaneous treatment from results which have ascertained high removal efficiency at various combined gases conditions, and in pilot plant test for 3 months, NO conversion was showed 90% over.

The integration of intelligent devices, devices-level networks, and software into motor control systems can deliver improved diagnostics, fast warnings for increased system reliability, design flexibility, and simplified wiring. Remote access to motor-control information also affords an opportunity for reduced exposure to hazardous voltage and improved personnel safety during startup and trouble-shooting. This paper presents LonWorks fieldbus networked intelligent induction control system architecture. Experimental bed system with two inverter motor driving system for controlling 1.5kW induction motor is configured for LonWorks networked intelligent motor control. In recent years, MCCs have evolved to include component technologies, such as variable-speed drives, solid-state starters, and electronic overload relays. Integration was accomplished through hardwiring to a programmable logic controller (PLC) or distributed control system (DCS). Devicelevel communication networks brought new possibilities for advanced monitoring, control and diagnostics. This LonWorks network offered the opportunity for greatly simplified wiring, eliminating the bundles of control interwiring and corresponding complex interwiring diagrams. An intelligent MCC connected in device level control network proves users with significant new information for preventing or minimizing downtime. This information includes warnings of abnormal operation, identification of trip causes, automated logging of events, and electronic documentation. In order to show the application of the multi-motors control system, the prototype control system is implemented. This paper is the first step to drive multi-motors with serial communication which can satisfy the real time operation using LonWorks network.
Sunlight causes various types of adverse skin changes on the sun-exposed areas of the skin, in which the most hazardous one is the induction of malignant skin tumours. FT -IR spectra were obtained from specimens excised from normal skin, BCCs, SCCs, MMs, nevi, lesions of solar keratosis and Bowen's disease. Tissue samples from freshly frozen specimens were cut into 2 sections in strictly sequential order to be stained with H & E for histopathological analysis, and then to be air-dried on CaF$_2$ slide glasses for further spectral data acquisition from defined area of interest. Intra- and inter-sample variations were estimated within grouped lesion categories according to each skin component. Mean spectra for each type of tissue pathology in the 800-1800 $cm^{-1}$ / region was interpreted using the classical group frequency approach that showed the most visible differences in spectra of benign, premalignant and malignant changes directly related to protein conformation and nucleic acid bases. The relative intensity of the nucleic acid peak was increased with progression to malignancy. In addition, PCA was able to evaluate and maximise the differences in the spectra by reducing the number of variables characterizing each patient and pathology category. This type of approach to non-destructively estimate the complexity of IR-spectra of inhomogeneous samples such as skin demonstrates the advantage of FT -IR microspectroscopy to be able to observe diseased states (benign, premalignant, malignant) and distinguish them from normal against a huge background of inter- and intra-subject variability.
Bisphenol A (BPA) is a highly hazardous component to human since it is regarded as one of endocrine disruptors. For the analysis and/or removal of BPA, the searching for the specific ligand with a selective affinity to target BPA is required. In order to find the peptide moiety that specifically binds to BPA, the ultrasound-assisted biopanning was carried out with a phage-displayed peptide library expressing constrained heptamer. After six rounds of positive screening against BPA particles followed by the negative screening against the surface of eppendorf tube, the peptide sequence (CysLysSerLeuGluAsnSerTyrCys) with affinity to BPA was screened based on the order of frequency from the screened phage clones. To further verify the specificity of screened peptide sequence, the cross-binding affinity of the phage peptide toward BPA analogues such as Bisphenol S (BPS) and Bisphenol F (BPF) was also assessed, where the selected phage peptide showed a higher affinity to BPA over BPS and BPF.
The industrial health education is the most fundamental and active area in the industrial health. It has become increasingly recognized as an important component of preventive occupational health programs and is an essential service for improvement of productivity and employee's health. Evaluating the worker's health status is a part of the occupational health promotion policy and is very important to know the efficiency of the occupational health service. In this point, the purpose of this study was to clarify the effect of the industrial health education on worker's health status. This study included a survey of 625 workers at 28 factories in Puchon area form August Z7 to September 30, 1996. The research was carried out through the analysis of the self-administered questionnaires and health examination records. The results were as follows: 1. For demographic characteristics, 66.5% of the respondents were male. The most prevalent age group was 30 - 39years group(30.4%). Those who graduated from high school were 43.5%. The workers whose monthly income ranged from 600,000 to 100,000 won were 40.3%. As for the marital status, 69.4% of the respondents were married. 2. For occupational characteristics, 37.9% of the workers had worked 2 to 5 years in the factories, 69.4% of the respondents worked at the assembly line and the staffs were 27.0%. T26.4% of the respondents worked at hazardous workplace and 71.8% of the workers worked 9 to 10 hours a day. Those who worked during the night were 56.0%. Those who felt much for them workload were 29.9% and were dissatisfied with their working environment and job were 33.6%, 19.1%. 3. The 39.4% of the respondents received the industrial health education and most of them received on the safety and only few on family health. 70.7% out of those who had industrial health education reported it helped their health management.
Objectives: Exposure to hazardous chemicals during pregnancy may result incritical reproductive health outcomes. Indoor residential levels are significant component of personal exposure. The collection of residential exposure data has been hampered by the cost and participant burden of health studies of indoor air pollution. This study utilized a participant-based approach to collect volatile organic compounds concentration from homes. Methods: Four hundred thirteen women were recruited from three major hospitals in Seoul and Gyeongi Provence and 411 agreed to participate. A passive sampler (OVM 3500, 3M, USA) with instructions were given to the participants, as well as a questionnaire. They were asked to deploy the sampler in their homes for three to five days and return them viapre-stamped envelope. Results: Three hundred forty six participants returned the sampler. Among the returned samplers, three hundred samplers satisfied our monitoring quality criteria. The success rate of the monitoring method was 73%. The geometric mean of TVOC level was 429(2) ${\mu}g/m^3$. The TVOC guideline of 500 ${\mu}g/m^3$ was exceeded in 38% of the houses. The residential VOC levels were significantly associated with remodeling of the house. Conclusions: The results suggested that a participant-based sampling approach may be a feasible and costeffective alternative to exposure assessment involving home visits by a field technician.

This aims of this study is to analyse the correlationship between traffic accident s and traffic characteristic variables in at-grade intersections of urban area, to build up an accident forecasting model and to propose an evaluation method of hazardous at-grade intersections. The accident forecasting model is formulated by the use of residual indexes that is selected by principal component analysis and its statistical significance is tested by step-wise regression analysis. Effective countermeasures for safety can be established on the basis of identifying high accident intersections, because the validity of this model was examined and found to coincide with real world situations.
