This experiment was conducted to investigate of soil hardening degree before sowing, furrow depth at sowing and flooding time after sowing at furrowing in flooded rice paddy field that many people have an interest in as direct sowing method most recently. As hardening period was increased, the percentage of seedling stand and seed floating at flooding were increased slightly, while buried depth of stem at maximum tillering stage and cone penetration depth were decreased, respectively. Therefore, optimum degree of soil hardening was about 3 days after draining, at this time, cone penetration degree was about 6~7cm. According to furrow depth was more and more deep, buried depth of stem was increased gradually, but percentage of seedling stand was decreased considerbly. Also, root distribution ratio on surpace horizon and lodging degree were increased gradually according to furrow depth become more and more shallow. As flooding time after sowing was late, percentage of seedling stand and panicle number per $m^2$ were decreased slightly. These results apparently indicated that sowing after 3 days hardening when cone penetration degree was 6~7cm, furrow depth 3~4cm degree and flooding time just after sowing the best method to good establish of seedling stand.
There were many ground excavation projects from past to present to make effective use of the limited land. And it is very important to predict the ground behavior depending on construction stage for ground excavation. Excavation of the ground involves changes in the stress and displacement of the ground around the excavated surface. Thus it affects the stability of the adjacent structure as well as the excavated surface. Therefore, it is very important to predict the ground behavior and stability of adjacent structure. And nowadays, numerical analysis methods are most often used to predict the effects of ground excavation. Recent, improvements of numerical analysis programs, along with improved computer performance, have helped solve complicated ground problems. However, except some specialized numerical analysis, most numerical analysis often predicts larger excavation floor displacement than field data due to adopt the Mohr-Coulomb analysis model. As a result, it raise the problem that increasing the amount of support on ground and structure. In this study, ground behavior analysis depending on analysis model (Mohr-Coulomb, Duncan-Chang, Modified Mohr-Coulomb and Hardening Soil model) has been carried out through the numerical analysis. When numerical analysis is carried out, this study is expected to be used as a basic data for adopting a suitable analysis model in various ground excavation project.
Due to population growth and industrial development, the amount of industrial waste is increasing every year. In particular, in a thermal power plant using finely divided coal, a large amount of coal ash is generated after combustion of the coal. Among them, fly ash is recycled as a raw material for cement production and concrete admixture, but about 20% is not utilized and is landfilled. Due to the continuous reclamation of such a large amount of coal ash, it is required to find a correct treatment and recycling plan for the coal ash due to problems of saturation of the landfill site and environmental damage such as soil and water pollution. In recent years, the use of a fluid embankment material that can exhibit an appropriate strength without requiring a compaction operation is increasing. The fluid embankment material is a stable treated soil formed by mixing solidifying materials such as water and cement with soil, which is the main material, and has high fluidity before hardening, so compaction work is not required. In addition, after hardening, it is used for backfilling or filling in places where compaction is difficult because higher strength and earth pressure reduction effect can be obtained compared to general soil. In this study, the possibility of use of fluidized soil using high water content cohesive soil and coal ash is considered. And it is intended to examine the flow characteristics, strength, and bearing capacity characteristics of the material, and to investigate the effect of reducing the earth pressure when applied to an underground burial.
One of the important causes of building and infrastructure failure, such as bridges on pile foundations, is the placement of the piles in liquefiable soil that can become unstable under seismic loads. Therefore, the overarching aim of this study is to investigate the seismic behavior of a soil-pile system in liquefiable soil using three-dimensional numerical FEM analysis, including soil-pile interaction. Effective parameters on concrete pile response, involving the pile diameter, pile length, soil type, and base acceleration, were considered in the framework of finite element non-linear dynamic analysis. The constitutive model of soil was considered as elasto-plastic kinematic-isotropic hardening. First, the finite element model was verified by comparing the variations on the pile response with the measured data from the centrifuge tests, and there was a strong agreement between the numerical and experimental results. Totally 64 non-linear time-history analyses were conducted, and the responses were investigated in terms of the lateral displacement of the pile, the effect of the base acceleration in the pile behavior, the bending moment distribution in the pile body, and the pore pressure. The numerical analysis results demonstrated that the relationship between the pile lateral displacement and the maximum base acceleration is non-linear. Furthermore, increasing the pile diameter results in an increase in the passive pressure of the soil. Also, piles with small and big diameters are subjected to yielding under bending and shear states, respectively. It is concluded that an effective stress-based ground response analysis should be conducted when there is a liquefaction condition in order to determine the maximum bending moment and shear force generated within the pile.
Construction materials using soil which is the most common material around us have many advantages, but their long-term durability and sensation of walking as pavements have problems. Therefore, they are used after compaction or mixed with various hardening agents such as lime and cement for strength enhancement. However, studies on the behavior of pavement materials mixed with environment-friendly hardening agents or admixtures to improve walking property are still insufficient. In this study, therefore, in order to evaluate the appropriate mixing ratio and field application characteristics of pavement materials using mixed soils with environment-friendly hardening agents and natural materials such as wood chips, mechanical tests were performed to evaluate the rational mixing ratios and the ball test was performed as an elasticity test to evaluate the field applicability. The results suggest that the content of wood chips should be selected at 1.5% or lower according to the purpose of the structure, and the hardening agent at 10~15%. The evaluation results for GB/SB coefficient ratio which indicates the walking property show that the appropriate mixing ratio of the hardening agent in terms of the sensation of walking is 15% of lower, but different mixing ratios should be chosen according to the proportion of wood chips.
The development of strain localization within shear zones is frequently observed during soil deformation. In fact, the phenomenon appears to be more often the norm rather than the exception. Conceptually, any soil condition that renders negative work increment is prone to localization. In this study, a broad range of soil and loading conditions are investigated to test this criterion, including: dilative soil subjected to drained shear (standard case), contractive soil sheared under undrained conditions, cavitation in dilative soil in undrained shear, inhomogeneous soils, particle alignment in contractive soils made of platy particles, soils that experience particle crushing, and the shear of low-moisture and/or lightly cemented loose soils. Unique specimens and test procedures are designed to separately test each of these soil conditions in the laboratory According to experimental test results, soil specimens with post-peak strain softening behavior are prone to progressive failure, localization of deformations, and shear banding. The state of stress, the soil density, inherent mechanical and geometrical properties of soil particles, low water content, and heterogeneity can contribute to triggering strain localization. Considering all possible cases of localization, the best method to obtain the critical state line in the laboratory is to use contractive homogeneous specimens subjected to drained shear.

An elasto-plastic constitutive model was Proposed, in which the behavior at small-to-large strain level can be modeled. From a mathematical approach it was proved that the model includes the previous successful models. The experimental results of a series of resonant column tests, torsional shear tests and triaxial tests were verified and as a result the proposed model could predict small-to-large strain behavior more consistently and accurately than the hyperbolic model and the Ramberg-Osgood model for a weathered granitic soil.
To achieve a wide suction range, the low suction was imposed on compacted silt specimens by the axis translation technique and the high suction was imposed by the vapor equilibrium technique with saturated salt solutions. Firstly, the results of soil water retention tests on compacted silt show that the soil water retention curves in terms of gravimetric water content versus suction relation are independent of the dry density or void ratio in a high suction range. Therefore, triaxial tests on compacted silt with constant water content at high suctions can be considered as that with constant suction. Secondly, the results of triaxial shear tests on unsaturated compacted silt with the initial void ratio of about 0.75 show a strain-hardening behavior with a slightly shear contraction and then strain-softening behavior with an obviously dilation. As the imposed suction increases, the shear strength increases up to a peak value and then decreases when the suction is beyond a special value corresponding to the peak shear strength. The residual strength increases to fair value and those at high suctions are almost independent of imposed suctions. In addition, the contribution of suction to the strength of compacted silt would not diminish even in a high suction range.

This study presents a 3D non-linear finite element (FE) assessment of dynamic soil-structure interaction (SSI). The numerical investigation has been performed on the time domain through a Finite Element (FE) system, while considering the nonlinear behavior of soil and the multi-directional nature of genuine seismic events. Later, the FE outcomes are analyzed to the recorded in-situ free-field and structural movements, emphasizing the numerical model's great result in duplicating the observed response. In this work, the soil response is simulated using an isotropic hardening elastic-plastic hysteretic model utilizing HSsmall. It is feasible to define the non-linear cycle response from small to large strain amplitudes through this model as well as for the shift in beginning stiffness with depth that happens during cyclic loading. One of the most difficult and unexpected tasks in resolving soil-structure interaction concerns is picking an appropriate ground motion predicted across an earthquake or assessing the geometrical abnormalities in the soil waves. Furthermore, an artificial neural network (ANN) has been utilized to properly forecast the non-linear behavior of soil and its multi-directional character, which demonstrated the accuracy of the ANN based on the RMSE and R2 values. The total result of this research demonstrates that complicated dynamic soil-structure interaction processes may be addressed directly by passing the significant simplifications of well-established substructure techniques.
