  • A sinusoidal tuned VCO based on linear OTA's has been designed for instrumentation and measurement applications. It consists of a noniverting amplifier, a hard limiter, and a current controlable LC-tuned circuit which is realized vy two linear OTA's and two grounded capacitors. A prototype circuit has been built with discrete components. The experimental results show that the proposed VCO has a linearity error of less than 6.5 percent and a temperature coefficient of less than 200ppm/$^{\circ}C$ over a bias current range form 5$\mu$A to 100 $\mu$A(or an oscillation frequency range form 775.5 Hz to 20.371 kHz). A total harmonic distortion of 0.6 percent was measured for a peak-to-peak amplitude of 5V.

  • In this paper, the performance for FH/CPFSK system with limiter-discriminator detection and integrage-and-dump post-detection filtering under thermal noie, partial-band noise jamming and rayleigh fading have been analyzed. The method of hard-decision diversity of which the transmitter repeated L times on different hops for each data symbol in a way to mutigate the effects of the jamming has been applied, and the receiver has been combined the L chips. Also, error-correcting code have been applied for improving performance of system. The thermal noise and partial-band noise jamming, intersymbol interference for all eight of the possible adjacent bit data patterns, and FM noise click for evaluating systems have been considered. Also optimum parameters to improve performance of FH/CPFSK system have been obtained and validities have been proved through computer simulation.

  • We demonstrate binary spectral phase coded waveform discrimination at 10 GHz for narrow band optical code-division multiple-access (NB-OCDMA) via direct electrical detection without using any optical hard-limiter. Only 9 phase-locked, 10 GHz spaced, spectral lines within a 100 GHz spectral window are used for the phase coding. Considerably high contrast ratio of 5 between signal and multiuser access interference noise can be achieved for $4{\times}10\;G\;pulse/sec$ timing coordinated OCDMA at a simple electrical receiver with 50 GHz bandwidth.

  • 1.55${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ PnpN optical thyristor as a smart optical switch has potential applications in advanced optical communication systems. PnpP optical thyristors operating at 1.55${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ are proposed and fabricated for the first time. In the optical thyristors, we employ InGaAs/InP multiple quantum well (MQW) for the active n- and p-layers. The thyristors show sufficiently nonlinear s-shape I-V characteristics and spontaneous emission. In the OFF-state, the device has a high-impedance up to switching voltage of 4.03(V). On the other hand, it has low-impedance and emits spontaneous light as a light-emitting diode in the ON-state voltage of 1.77(V), and switching voltage is changed under several light input conditions. It can be used as a header processor in optical asynchronous transfer mode (ATM), as a hard limiter in optical code division multiple access (CDMA) and as a wavelength converter in optical WDM systems.

  • We present the first demonstration of waveguide-type depleted optical thyristor laser diode with InGaAs/InGaAsP multiple quantum well structure. The measured switching voltage and current are 4.63 V and 10uA respectively. The holding voltage and current are respectively 0.59 V, 20uA. The lasing threshold current at the temperature of $25^{\circ}C$ and $10^{\circ}C$ are 111 mAA and 72.5 mA, respectively. The lasing wavelength is centered at 1.561um at a bias current equal to 1.41 times threshold.

  • Most hard disk drives that apply the ramp load/unload technology unload the heads at the outer edge of the disk while the disk is rotating. The load/unload includes the benefits as like an increased areal density, a reduced power consumption and an improved shock resistance. A lot of papers investigating the effects of the various load/unload parameters such as a suspension tab, a limiter, a ramp and air-bearing surface designs have been published. However, in previous researches, an effect of the suspension is not considered at each load/unload step. In this paper, we focus that a variation of the state matrix affects the load/unload performance on based on a state matrix that is a stiffness matrix of the suspension. Because the state matrix is related to the suspension at each load/unload step, to change the state matrix means the structural change of the suspension. Therefore, we investigated a range of a pitch static attitude(PSA) and a roll static attitude(RSA) for load/unload performance. We also analyzed an effect of the variation of the state matrix a range of load/unload velocity occurred a slider-disk contact. We determined the variation of the state matrix to improve the load/unload performance through comparison of each factor of state matrix.
